15 tips for brand new healers {WoW}

Jun 9th 2010 11:44AM Heal at range. I'm constantly surprised by how many healers I see standing next to the tank, right up by a boss taking cleaves, splash damage, getting feared, silenced... many times all of it is avoidable by staying back.

WoW Rookie: Stay on target with raid icons {WoW}

Mar 4th 2010 9:45AM Don't forget that you can insert a marker icon into chat by enclosing it's name in curly beavers. Ie: {skull}. Very handy for making a kill order macro.

A little pre-80 min/maxing can be helpful {WoW}

Dec 2nd 2009 9:47PM I don't go overboard when leveling, but I definitely look ahead on http://www.wow-loot.com and WoWhead to see what good quest rewards and drops may be coming up. Moving towards a piece of gear keeps me motivated. And with the new cross-server LFG coming up including teleporting right into the instance? I foresee a lot more people leveling in instances -- can't hurt to have good gear!

Regarding the Prayer of Mending changes... they seriously aren't a nerf. Yes, you're technically correct that the threat from ProM heals is now assigned to the priest whereas before it went to the target, the amount of threat is so minimal compared to the buff to tanking mechanics and overall DPS it's just not a problem. I've done all I could to pull aggro off my tank -- a fresh 70 who has quest greens and relatively low TPS -- and precasting ProM just isn't a problem.

Oct 17th 2008 12:10PM I did the Fishing Diplomat last night on my Undead Mage which made the direct approach a breeze. I rode in from Stonard through Duskwood and when I got within sight of the main gates I popped Mana Shield, mounted, and rode right in.

It was pretty late so not many players, but so long as you can get past the first major area near the AH where players congregate and guards patrol heavily, it's not too tough to get to the canals I still had aggro from guards so dove in the water and hit Invisible. Once out of combat it was just a matter of finding one of the many little rowboats that are scattered around the canals which you can jump into right from the water. You then only need the time it takes for one successful cast to get credit for the Achievement.

A great place to fish without guard aggro is at the very end of the canal that dead-ends by the new archway leading to the harbor. There are some level 1 NPC boys fishing at a little dock and a few rowboats. Hop into the one furthest from the boys and you can cast towards the back wall of the canal. I was there long enough to catch over 15 fish without catching guard aggro (as a 70 player). If two Alliance players hadn't seen me I could have fished a lot longer without problem.

Sep 3rd 2008 2:45PM Is there any evidence that your Aldor / Scryer reputation will have any use or effect in the new expansion (other than perhaps as "lowbie" shoulder enchants on leveling gear)?

Tips for the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza {WoW}

Mar 24th 2008 5:53PM I just won for the first time about a month ago, been doing the contest on and off pretty much since launch. Here's what I've learned:

- Fish the western coast from Grom Gol north to the inlet and back again. There are level 30-ish crocks there that discourage lvl 19 twinks from hitting that area meaning less competition for the schools.

- turn on auto-loot in preferences. Hotkey your casting icon. speed counts.

- set hearthstone to the booty bay inn at least an hour before the contest starts

- go against the crowd. Are people passing you headed south? go north -- the schools they just fished out will respawn shortly

- always be looking for your next school. scan the coastline behind you as you run. the schools respawn so quickly sometimes you can run away from one behind you, so always be scanning.

- put a runspeed enchant on your boots! Get a riding crop or other speed gear for your mount.

- in 2.4 tasty fish schools will be trackable, so get your weather beaten journal now! Or get friends to scan the coastline for your next school.

Beyond that it's just plain luck regarding how many "junk" catches you pull from pools, how many schools spawn close to you, and how many people are competing on a given sunday.

Good luck all!
