Nov 14th 2007 1:45PM My main from day one has been a human rogue named Ciacco, from Dante's Inferno - the 'glutton of florence' that "For the pernicious sin of gluttony, I, as thou seest, am battered by this rain". Bocaccio in the Decameron described him as "a man second to none that ever lived for inordinate gluttony - and being, for the rest, well-mannered and well furnished with excellent and merry gests." It's that that he's fat.. :) I just liked the idea of a greedy rogue, well liked, but just a greedy as he can possibly be. Tied well to pickpocketing, stealth-running, etc.
My dwarf warrior Kharkazadum is a combo from Tolkien - Khazad-dum means "mansion of the dwarves" and Khark is a common dwarven prefix for anything dwarf related. Just seemed to be a good fit, but mostly have to go by kkd because of the difficult spelling...
Draenei Paladin - Praetorius, singular of the roman empirial guard, fit for his class and look.
Great thread, even though there have been many I just don't get tired of hearing these cool stories - it's very personal how people connect.
Addon question: Has anyone made a guild from collective names? Like calling a guild "Disease" and having all the toons named after diseases? I also like the idea of all drug names and naming the guild ....
Aug 20th 2007 3:37PM This is a tough call, but depends on the 'spirit' of the raid in my opinion. I know back in the day if my GL was in the raid with me and the ZG mount dropped, we would have all expected him to take it as thanks for his work getting us together and into the instance, as it was moving mountains.
Even if the raid was somewhat vocal about him getting it, let him say "everone random it' and let everyone pass to show that they really want him to have it. A guild chat full of Pass sends a much stronger message of solidarity and collective opinion than a GM taking it himself. Kind of shows your true colors if you create the trust/atmosphere, and then find out if 'everyone' feels that way.
As an example on a much smaller level, if we have a PUG person added to Kara for some reason, say to help us finish if someone had to log at end time, we offer the opportunity to random anything we DE. If they say, yeah, we all roll, but we have yet to have anyone say so, so instead it goes to the guild bank. Us offering often creates the positive atmosphere that prompts them to respect the unity of the guild they joined and send it to the bank - but if they aren't comfortable we respect that, because you can't get mad at the random command, only at people.
Aug 6th 2007 9:57AM "Fly Away Home 2: Fly Away Pwn" With news of the expansion this week, the annual migration of the gryphons began. (Just off screen is a little girl flying in a gnomish flying machine.) Watch as a pack of gryphons on their migration from Blade's Edge Mountains to Northrend are challenged by lag, forum trolls and nerfs. Feel your heart soar as they reach new lands, set their hearthstones to new places to give birth to the first of the deathknights before they begin their long trek back to blues. Rated NC-68.
Jul 13th 2007 1:12PM Is it just me (and I'm a huge HP fan) the first thing I thought when I saw this was 'what a cool drop from the Crone during the Oz event'. That makes it more like Attumen's steed, Baron's mount or the ZG or A'lar mounts. That seems more logical than the class-specific stuff - too many people would be upset if something like this was limited.
Now, if I could just get that granny outfit from the Big Bad Wolf...
Jun 28th 2007 9:46AM I think my favorite thing about playing a rogue is 'turning off' the damage that is put out. A lot of people debate different types of dps, but I think if whatever the mob is that you are fighting sways back and forth under cs/ks, never casts and dies without doing much damage... I've done my job. (now if just more bosses would do that...)
There's nothing so satisfying as interrupting spell after spell in pvp, too, while they are 'bleeding like a stuck pig' as said above...
Stepping away from my main to play another class for a while reminds me just how painful it is to have to rez often - I've gone so long without having to do so when soloing it feels odd to actually die... (and is why having vanish broken so long was just so painful to rogues, it changed their sense of self...)
Jun 25th 2007 10:08AM I choose YOU! Silver Moon Draenei Vindicator! Yeah! Gottacatchemall!
Apr 12th 2007 8:18AM You all seem to forget that this stuff is upgradeable, codecs are able to be added. When he first announced it as iTV everyone said "it will fail because it doesn't have a hard drive or HD support!" and when it was released (gasp) it had a hard drive and HD (while limited) support. They don't have to show everything if the product is able to be udpated over time (ie, the core concept behind a flexible iPhone interface - it can change!) Wait until Leopard comes out, I think that Apple is holding some of their cards close to their chest until their full connected system is out in the open. (Chances are if we public commenters are identifying gaps, etc, I'm just 'guessing' apple may have thought of them as well.) After the Vista/Tiger comparison, I don't blame them for being a little guarded. Same story with iPhone, comment but don't condemn until you see the final working product within the full apple scheme.
