Fiber optics get political in Australia as opposition party vows to scale down national broadband plan {Engadget}

Aug 11th 2010 7:24AM @Arobert & that $2000 is going to help my small business (& many others) compete on the global stage, amongst countless other things. This is the kind of infrastructure Investment I want our government to make. The internet is not all just about how fast we can stream/download a movie..

Fiber optics get political in Australia as opposition party vows to scale down national broadband plan {Engadget}

Aug 10th 2010 11:53PM ok, am i wrong to think this..

1) fibre optic, theoretically will run @ the speed of light & it is the technology @ either end which is currently limiting us to 100Mbs.. Can this technology evolve with the network, providing future upgrades of 10Gbs + ? It seems with copper there is a definite theoretical limit due to the composition of the wire, Isn't the theoretical limit of 'light based' ie/fibre cables going to be a gazillion times higher?

Aug 10th 2010 10:06PM Australian politicians don't even know what 12Mbs even means, Let alone Upload speeds, pings & latency.. The lib's network is rubbish.. I got a taste of fibre networks in europe & have to say it is the only way to go.

Also, the liberal policy still keeps much of the network control in the hands of telstra, who have to this point, done little to increase the overall speeds, cost effectiveness & network access availability.

Magic Trackpad review {Engadget}

Jul 30th 2010 9:21PM sure, this is great, if you're into finger painting..

myself, i prefer the precise control only a brush, pen &/or wacom can offer..

Notion Ink Adam still alive, working on Flash compatibility {Engadget}

Apr 7th 2010 5:19AM "seriously Adobe, the thing can do 1080p video, but Flash makes it wince?"

so apple has a reason to avoid flash.. personally i wouldn't mind if it was superseded by HTML5.. It's sooo 90's..

Mar 21st 2010 8:31PM with innovations such as these I have a feeling the iPad will find it's way into musicians studio's.. I remember the Propellerhead Software's 303 emulator package entitled ReBirth.. now that on a tablet with multitouch will be very interesting indeed.

Mar 12th 2010 1:59AM @Denji

I agree.. Also the person could be a traveller, like i was, where getting on a 3g internet plan or even considering roaming options are wayyyy outta the budget..

Razer promises Mac support for all upcoming products {Engadget}

Mar 10th 2010 11:14PM This is great news!! As a hackintosh user I am hoping that NZXT eventually also gets of their ass & provides MAC drivers, Even though I don't actually game on the Mac side of my hackintosh, i always have to switch mouses when switching between OS's because of lack of driver support.
