Aug 14th 2007 5:38PM The formula linked isn't even algebra is it? It looks like simple arithmetic- addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In order for it to be algebra I think it has to have unknown variables (or a matrix if it is linear algebra) and for it to be calculus it have to have limits, derivatives or integrals.
But yeah I've definitely learned a large portion of my vocabulary from video games. Where else do you learn important words like "toggle" or "strafe"?
Jul 31st 2007 12:07PM It is just me, or has blizzard's music not been terribly memorable? Don't get me wrong- it's beautiful music... but I never find myself humming a warcraft tune. I remember playing games like Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and Tyrian (both composed in part or in full by alexander brandon) and I could still recognize a track just from a few seconds of it. Sure it wasn't orchestrated, but each track was memorable and distinct.

Jul 22nd 2007 12:10PM Making the game more realistic often creates unwanted complications. Does anyone remember the RPG "Darkstone"? In that game, you had to eat food to keep your hunger gauge up, or else you start losing health. That wasn't a big deal, since food was easy to find. But then they also had age- if your character got too old their stats would drop or something. You'd have to grind out the hardest dungeons to get elixirs of youth. I thought that was unnecesarry.
Jul 13th 2007 2:44PM Do we really need primal farmers to be richer? From what I've seen, you can make insane amounts of money already. If there was a way for essences to turn into motes, it's only going to hurt leveling players who use them for tradeskills. The best example I can think of is fiery enchant- it takes 2 essence of fire and it used to be 30-50g for the enchant. Now, essence of fire goes as low as 1g, so fiery enchants are easy to come by, which means more business (and skill-ups) for leveling enchanters.
