Jun 20th 2008 9:44AM What business does a Man, an Elf, and an Undead have in the Terrace?
Mar 20th 2008 10:58AM PvP should be all about skill not team combo's nor gear, that isnt the case here, and blizzard are now making the gear progression in PvP more akin to PvE where only the top players get the best gear.
With the S3 ratings only dropping 50 points and with the prices not yet stated (Im expecting them to be dropped by a similarly miniscule amount) I wouldnt be surprised if S4 needs a 2200 rating or something only a small % of the Arena population achieve.
This sort of thinking doesnt lead to a fair, even and balanced PvP system, take golf as an example, if youre not very good you get a handicap to help you compete with other, better players whereas in wow the best players are the ones who are getting the handicap (in the form of the best gear) which to me is counter-intuitive. Now at the start of every new season, the previous seasons best have an even easier time getting back to the top due to their gear superiority. Again Ill use another sport, basketball, as an example, at the start of every new NBA season the WORST team gets the choice of the best rookie player so that the same teams do not win every year.
Now im not about to suggest the worst players get the best gear to make things even, that would be stupidity at its finest, but i do however thiink that arenas would be far, far better off with a much larger and more competetive player base if all the gear was available to every team and if it wasnt the same teams winning every year.
I have suggested many times now that the elite PvPers get access to frill items, such as gear with the same stats but with far superior looks, or some kind of aura so that anyone can recognise their achievments without being both out-skilled and more imortantly out-geared.
My favourite among these frill items would be mounts. Having mounts or any other sought after items purchaseable with arena points (alot of arena points) could possibly slow the rate at which people sell their teams or boost other teams due to them needing to keep their rating and needing to save points again.
Im really quite disgusted by the changes made to the arena system over this last year, i loved it when it first came out, decent teams were never hampered in their progression to the top, good players were never outgeared by "scrubs" and because everyone had the same level of gear it was a far more competetive system.
Rating requirements are all fine and well if blizzard are 100% happy with the state of some classes in the arena, but having seen their own numbers on the subject I'll be absolutely astounded if they are.
Jan 18th 2008 6:32PM "So you don't get a cool looking pet, WHO CARES? Shoulda
tamed it before the changes."
Thats kind of the point, there werent meant to be changes.
"Aren't there more important concerns, ones that actually effect gameplay, that you guys can write about?"
Exactly, why was a such an insignificant yet very cool thing given such immediate attention and a HOTFIX, not a 2.4 fix or even a 2.3.3 fix.

Sep 6th 2007 9:36AM No PvP gear should be off limits to anyone, for PvP to be competetive people need to have similar gear.
So instead of inflating the "good" players ego by letting them and only them walk around with a big shiny axe why not let everyone get it and give good players exclusive stuff like, oh i dont know, an armoured nether drake or a title that says gladiator.
How about more e-peen stuff for those who want to show off and shout I PWN U, while the rest of us can just get on with it and try to do our best.
Sep 5th 2007 7:28PM Blizzard wants PvP to be about skill? Ive never heard such tripe in my life.
The only way that would happen is if everyone is in the same standard of gear (like the arena finals), but the way things are now the good get better gear which then gives them an advantage over an equally skilled player in lesser gear.
And lets face it, the classes and combos arent exactly what id call balanced either.
Also, anyone who says that the good players should get the better weapons and the not so good ones shouldnt is basically saying they dont want an actual challenge in PvP.
Aug 3rd 2007 7:23PM "Rage mechanic (fun vs. balance) - killing faster and pushing more buttons. Scales exceptionally well. Trimming that to the right place make the class less fun to play."
Comical, balancing warriors means its not too fun because you dont wtfpwn everything.
