Jul 1st 2008 1:01PM The solution has always been simple. Less small scale arenas where class difference becomes such an issue and the addition of real tanks. If WOW wants to move to a PVP orientated game to combat warhammer they have to start developing PVP tanks. CC is not the answer to DPS races tanks are.
Every play DAoC? Tanks do not have to be useless in PVP. In many MMOS tanks are viable in PVP settings. I'll use DAoC as an example. Some healer gets targeted by DPS. Is healer done for? Nope. Because in come super tank. Super tank might not be the DPS king but he provides significant damage reduction for the healer through his "buffs and debufs" (for lack of a better term) giving the DPS of their own team time respond and save their healer. That is how well thought out PVP works.
The problem is that I don’t expect Tom Chilton for one minute to have any clue how to accomplish this. After all it would require a lot of reworking and adding of new abilities to the tank specs. Which we have seen absolutely 0 of in the WoTLC leaks. After all, all the tanks have now to protect their teammates are intervene, and blessing of sacrifice. What a joke. Making tanks a viable part of PVP would be a lot of work and I don’t expect Tom Chilton lazy as he is to ever put that much effort into anything.
Jun 26th 2008 6:00PM I would have gotten "angry" when he said that a new BG would only satisfy a small percentage of players. AV was released 3 years ago. There hasn't been a new 40 man PVP raid in that time. The only other BG released is that joke EoS. I dare blizzard to poll their player base and ask them if they prefer arenas over BGs. The only reason players do Arenas over BGs is that BG rewards suck comparatively. Instead of asking what we want Blizzard is telling us what we want.
Jun 26th 2008 4:00PM What do I care about guitar hero vs. rock band?
Here are the facts. The developers who made WOW have mostly left the company and are working in new studios on new projects. I look forward to what they create. WOW is left with a somewhat descent team but far from what it was.
Warhammer is coming out soon and is being devolved by the same developers who made DAoC. They are extremely innovative and good at what they do.
I am going to give warhammer a try because I trust their current development team a whole hell of a lot more than I trust Tom Chilton and company. When the devs who left blizzard come out with their own MMOs in a few years I will most certainly try them. But playing a Tom Chilton game is like going to the sequel of a great movie with a new writer, new director and new cast. Yes the concept was great at one time but now it sucks becasuse its the people behind the concept that make it work. When those people go what it was is gone.
Jun 24th 2008 2:21PM Hmmm I see my first post was whited out despite 3 response. More of the same 'lets not piss off the wow devs (whats left of them) they might stop giving us interviews)' the press, yes wow insider you are the press needs to start being more critical of the developers and their mistakes. No movie director can make flop after flop and still win praise. Yet we still get our monthly Tom Chilton praise at WOW insider.
@Manatank yes I agree I love PVE but I like PvP as well. I hate the separation that has been created. With the death of RvR and the move to glorified duels and more and more gear based PVP if you aren't a certain spec with the right gear and right team you cant advance in the PVP game. I for example like to tank. A tank cant do arenas and I have tanked van way way too many times for it to be fun anymore. AV was introduced almost 3 years ago. EoS was a total joke. Chilton just combined AB and WSG and called it a new BG. The man is lazy. He was lazy in UO he is lazy in WOW. Don’t think for one minute that one of the main reasons there is so much focus on arenas over BG is because arenas are a lot easier to develop and maintain than BGs.
@Ktok yes I am being forced to do arenas because blizzard is offering nothing else. There hasn't been a new BG introduced since BC and that BG is a total a joke. I'm tired of this lazy development. I'm tired of spending $15 a month and getting nothing out of it. A year between BT and SW. Repackaged arena season after repackaged arena season. And what new stuff does wrath offer? A cheap rip-off of warhammer that’s it. I might as well play warhammer.
@Smurk think of warhammer PvP as one giant RvR. Every faction has noob, intermediate, advanced and endgame zones. There is a constant fight between these two factions between these zones, noob vs. noob, intermediate vs intermediate on and on. What is done in one zone spills over to the next and so on and so on as well has help yourself, guild, and faction progress. The end goal is to raid your enemies capital city and kill their emperor. But it is a whole hell of a lot harder than getting a raid together like in wow. You have to break down the other sides defenses over a long time.
Jun 24th 2008 12:52PM People hate it because there is nothing to it. We have this super expansive world and instead we are expected to spend our time in this tiny little sand box the serves no purpose to the game other than give the twitch freaks something to do.
Its nothing more than blizzards attempt to hold off warhammer becasue they cant compeate with it for the PVP players. And guess what they still cant.
Jun 24th 2008 12:49PM Arena's are why I'm moving to warhammer. Why in the hell should I stay in a game that offers me nothing more than a glorified duel.
In warhammer I'm I can level up solely by PVP if I choose or by PvE or a combination of the two. All the PVP I do helps my guild, faction and realm regardless of my level. No matter what class I play I'm viable in PVP and PVE. There is no separation between the two. I can enjoy the full game. There is no @#$#!$% resilience.
WoW should have never started this fight with Warhammer. Had they kept the game the way it was intended I would stay. I love the lore. But there is no lore in Arena's there is no point to Arena's other than gear. If I'm going to PVP I'd rather do it in Warhammer where the rewards are far far greater.
If anyone thinks that a developer like Tom Chilton and come up with anything that will rival what EA Mythic, the guys who made DoAC FYI, you've got another thing coming. The great developers who made WOW are gone. I look forward to seeing what they can come up with in their new studios in a few years until that time I will play war hammer because I trust their developers to deliver good content. I do not trust Tom Chilton he is lazy and easily the worst in his field. He is the M. Night Shyamalan of MMO development. Way way over rated. Scratch that at least Mr. Shyamalan has had one good movie. Chilton has never had a success. His MO is working is way up as the developers who made the game leave than killing the game when he takes over.
Jun 20th 2008 3:12PM I love my tank. And I cant wait till warhammer so I can finaly have a tank that tha can do damage and is needed in PVP. I remember DAoC and super tank. I will be one agian. I love blizzards lore and I wish I could stay in this game but Kalgan's cookie cutter specs, groups, and all around sucky PVP has ruined it. I look foward to seeing what the Devs who brought us DAoC have in store in warhammer. My only hope is that one day blizzard will come to its senses and bring back some good devs.
Jun 11th 2008 11:51AM How many games. How about Ultima Online. The last game Tom Chilton killed. Fire him blizzzard!!!!!!
Jun 9th 2008 4:32PM Once agian Kalgan just shows how lazy he is. Instead of adding varity he is making everything as homogenous as possible. Thereby making his job as easy as possible. Its the same crap he pulled in OU its the same crap he is pulling in WOW. And the press, yes wowinsider you are the press, needs to start getting on the case of bad developers like Tom Chilton. Bad movie directors don’t get passes why do bad developers? 2 years from now Chilton will be working his way up the ladder of a new MMO dev team. Once again he will have changed his name; Evocare -> Kalgan -> who knows what, and once again he will get to the top of the ladder through attrition and start tearing that game down.
Jun 3rd 2008 4:35PM It would be the same as a mages fireball dot. It refreshes but the timer on the dot continues as normal ticking every 3 sec no matter when the debuff is reapplied.
