Jun 6th 2007 7:10PM Heh. I just read the Armory article. Looks like they may actually add enough to it to satisfy my needs. Awesome.
Jun 6th 2007 6:53PM As a druid, CTProfiles was GREAT. The Armory just didn't cut it for my needs. I've got, like, five or six distinct gear sets (sharing pieces, of course), and CTProfiles allowed me to optimize them all... and plan for the future.
That last bit-- planning for the future-- is completely missing from the Armory. I doubt it will ever be added. I guess we'll see, though.
Props to the CT staff for running it in the first place. It's too bad it didn't work out in the long term.
May 18th 2007 7:43PM @85, that's a really good point. While I still sympathize with him, he really should not have gotten into those huge justifications for the decisions of the devs. I think that drew a lot of ire to him, and was completely uneccesary and pointless. (Heh, to continue my tanking analogy, that would have been Challenging Shout. ;-) )
The CMs would be well-advised to make sure the playerbase understands they are not the ones making the decisions. When they are given the developers' rationale, pass that rationale along, but don't make it look like it's their own.
May 18th 2007 7:20AM As for the forums, they will remain a cesspool until Blizzard allows the moderators to enforce strict discipline. Forum posting should be a privilege, not a right. "First Posts", as an example, should be an instant ban. Instant, no questions, you're gone, possibly forever.
Deviations from civility should be visited by an instant vacation from the forums. A previous poster hit it on the head... they should NOT have to pretend that there is Deep Wisdom hidden in "OMGWTFBBQSAUCE". The ascii middle fingers mentioned earlier should have been another instant ban.
Until the rampant stupidity is stomped on, and HEAVILY, civil discourse will be impossible, and Blizzard will continue to lose CMs.
May 18th 2007 7:09AM Shamans, and other classes with a grudge:
Did it occur to you that maybe Tseric HAD passed on all your feedback? That perhaps he wasn't given the slightest iota of good stuff to post by the developers? You forget he was ONLY a CM, not a developer.
I read the forums, and I see all this abuse heaped upon the CMs where it does NOT belong... all sorts of people ranting as if the CMs were responsible for everything bad in the game. Of course, CMs aren't responsible for anything in game... they're just tasked to be the go-between, between the customers and the people that ARE responsible.
Unfortunately, I suspect Blizzard restricts them from actually pointing this out to you. Much like a good tank, they must keep your aggro on them, rather than on the management, and the developers under them.
My thought is that Tseric finally burned out on tanking. I don't blame him, since clearly he wasn't getting good backup from the other people in his raid. ;-)
May 8th 2007 3:54AM @11, Khaosworks:
There's a difference between a "casual player" and solo. You want to get attuned for Hyjal, of all places, solo? Heroics are not much to ask for, for an instance like Hyjal. There's a huge difference between getting 40 semi-skilled players together for Naxx and getting 5 skilled players together for Heroic Underbog (or whatever). And you're not planning on soloing Hyjal, are you?
The endgame emphasizes skill (for the most part) rather than button mashing, now. Or mindless farming of name-your-least-favorite-mob-here outside instances. Or getting 40 warm bodies together in the same place at the same time. This is a Good Thing[tm].
May 3rd 2007 2:41PM Actually, blue has confirmed that it is NOT a violation of anything to get summoned to Outland before 58. They've stated that the level limit on the Dark Portal was just intended to avoid overcrowding after the launch.
They've also stated they will eventually remove the level limit on the portal.
