Drama Mamas: The case of the reluctant temporary guild leader {WoW}

Jul 22nd 2011 10:52AM That's what I get for reading a longish article before I'm completely awake :)

Drama Mamas: The case of the reluctant temporary guild leader {WoW}

Jul 22nd 2011 10:30AM I'm not sure how shuffling off leadership responsibilities will play if you don't talk to your wife first. I co-GM a guild with my husband, and I know how I'd feel if I were away and came back to, "Hi, honey, I know you and I used to run the guild but you'll have a lot of fun partnering with Anton!" It wouldn't be pretty.

And I did see one potential danger phrase in there that the Mamas didn't address: "Under [my brother's and my] guidance the guild grew into a 25-man raiding guild..." That sounds like you at least partly helped create the management headaches you're unhappy with. Not saying you don't need to do something about it, but it does muddy the situation some.

Ready Check: How to deal with multiple wipes {WoW}

Jun 10th 2011 4:32PM Our raid group's answer to multiple wipes: Toys. While people are eating surround them with Tiny Blue or Green Ragdolls. Toss some zeppelins. Put down a campfire and encourage everyone to watch their turkey pets turn into Butterballs. Dance with dwarven ladies from the Chalice of the Mountain Kings. Works every time for relieving at least a little tension.

WoW Rookie: How to play WoW with a partner {WoW}

Jun 2nd 2011 7:20PM My husband and I have leveled several pairs of characters together over the four years we've been playing WoW, and for some reason Cataclysm was the first time it wasn't entirely...fun. The content seemed too easy for two people playing together, and the gated leveling meant we couldn't go to a harder zone early to ramp up the difficulty. Now we mostly instance and raid with guildies, and go play Borderlands when we want to duo something. Sad pandas.

Spiritual Guidance: The aftermath of patch 4.1 for holy and discipline priests {WoW}

May 2nd 2011 11:37AM The new Sanctuary graphic is pretty - off in a corner somewhere, being decorative. But my meleers, already afflicted by a prot/ret paladin light show, kind of hate all the glowing filigree and wish it were simpler.

Win a Razer Nostromo game keypad from WoW Insider {WoW}

Apr 26th 2011 12:57PM My husband and I used to both have Belkin N52s, but since he apparently plays WoW like a demented chimp with steel-plated fingers he has broken two of those and since upgraded to the Razer, whose soothing blue backlighting I look on with envy nightly while my N52 insists on living on, and on, and on... So yes, I would like this please!

Breakfast Topic: How consistently do you run your dailies? {WoW}

Apr 20th 2011 11:30AM I've just been working on the Skyguard and Netherwing rep, and doing that has made me unpleasantly aware of how thin and a little mechanical the Cata dailies mostly feel. The bits of RP fanfare or the carrot of the Netherwing races as you gained faction made the grind seem a little less...grindy. And six flying mounts per faction at exalted! Not a couple of camels that you'll likely never use outside of BGs. Now a flying camel...that would be awesome.

Blizzard issues Call to Arms clarification {WoW}

Apr 8th 2011 4:04PM As a number of people have said here and elsewhere, many tanks and healers fled back to their guilds in Cata because they weren't in the mood for being reviled and then kicked by strangers in LFD. A "goody bag" seems like a bandaid, and one that leaves DPS feeling left out at that (and no, I don't play DPS). It's too bad Blizzard can't come up with a way to measure and then reward everyone for teamwork and cooperation - so that queuing up for LFD would be something more than a "grit my teeth because I might get a pet or a mount" affair...

Breakfast Topic: The most memorable raid interruption {WoW}

Mar 18th 2011 12:00PM Over Skype: "Hey, wasn't that a timer?"

Guy: "Yeah, it's the pizza I'm heating up for my wife when she gets home. It's okay, I'll get it after this boss."

Just as the encounter is finishing we hear shrieking, softly at first then getting louder, mostly incoherent but mentioning burned pizza and ending with, "Why do I always get stupid you?!?"

Dead silence on the Skype call until I gently say, "Maybe you should go?"

"No, it's okay," he insists.

My husband: "No, really, I think you should go."

Somewhat to my astonishment, the man and his wife are still together.

What's your voice comm system of choice? {WoW}

Mar 9th 2011 7:46PM Our guild raids with Skype, 10 mans only but it works like a charm and doesn't require a server or any particular configuration - a definite plus in a guild where most everyone works in software or IT and doesn't want to keep doing their jobs when they come home :)
