The Light and How to Swing It: Raiding ret without the noob {WoW}

Jul 31st 2007 5:10PM @41, I am sure it has happened. I am sure there have been priest that have cast fort then got kicked. I am talking the norm and what happens in guilds. Guilds don't treat their players that way unless they are trying to make the person gquit.

@42, Well I am not against the idea per say. I am more puzzled because it seems that pallys QQ more about their abilities then they should just because they are not a dps class. I am just trying to point out why they are the weakness of the DPS classes. Their utility makes them extremely powerful and needed in a raid already.

Its kinda like when shadow priests (which I am) were bitching about the nerf to shadoweaving. It meant that they were not going to be number one on the dps charts anymore with equally geared pure dps classes. There is a reason for this though. We were already offering so much utility and other benefits that also making us a top dpser was unfair and could make raids drop other classes just to take another SP.

When we downed tidewalker which is a very long fight with mages and warlocks doing a lot of AOE I saw just how powerful a shadow priest was. All the mages in my group were at 75% mana or higher at the end of the fight. While the groups without me all were near oom. So it made sense that if I was giving them that much mana to do more dps with that my dps should suffer some. On top of that I was increasing the dps of other caster classes with shadoweaving and misery. So with all that should i also be allowed to be number one in the dps charts? I think not.

So I was being genuine when i said pallys do increase dps with their buffs and that is a primary role for them (and extremely important). There is no way I was going to be able to do what i did as a shadow priest without those pally buffs. i was 3rd on the threat meter. I might have had to stop dps if I didn't have salv. Wisdom allowed to me to make it to my next mana pot cooldown without going oom. If any of those things happened the mages could have gone oom to and the fight could have taken longer causing a wipe and it all goes back to those powerful pally buffs.

That being said I can understand the desire to dps and maybe the idea I have heard of a dark knight form is not to over the top for a pally. As a priest I would like to have 3 specs then though as well. Holy for healing, shadow for DPS and discpline for buffs (something more then spirit). Make the pally buffs a little more tree dependant too so that if they are doing dps they can't cast those powerful buffs just like I can not cast improved spirit or power infusion without more points in discipline.

The problem with doing any of that though rest squarely in how motivated blizzard is. If they are gonna do that for pallys and priests they would need to do the same for shammys and druids. I think they are too lazy to put the time into making 3 fully fictional raiding trees for all the classes. After they fixed pallys, priests, druids and shammys warlocks would no doubt be crying that the demo tree should be viable for 25 man raiding as well. So where does it end?

Jul 31st 2007 3:58PM twh, calling me dense or ignorant doesn't give you argument any more merit and hardly upsets me since we are talking about a video game.

If you wanted to DPS you should NOT have rolled a pally. That is what you are not getting despite your insults to my intelligence. Every class has a DPS tree but that doesn't mean they are used in raids. I have yet to see a boomkin in a 25 man raid. All the shammy and druids I have seen are healers or tanks. I have actually seen a lot more ret pallys in raids then boomkins or enhancement/elemental shammys.

Many of them actually do pretty good dps too so I wonder how much this talk of ret being broken is true. Of course they were in all epics too.

"By the way, being the best at buffing doesn't get us into raids. it just keeps us waiting at the door, waiting for the raid to come out and get a new buff. So that argument fails."

R U serious? You are telling me you know pallys that stand at the door buffing the raid as they go in? HAHAHA that is the most off the wall crap I have ever heard and complete BS. There is no guild that has their pallys stand at the door and buff people as they go in. That comment is a desperate attempt to prove your point.

What person would spend their night standing outside SSC just buff players but not able to share in any fun or loot? They would tell those people to F##$ off. Please don’t make shit up.

Jul 31st 2007 3:03PM @31 I don't think the solution is to nerf holy and hurt the pallys that have put so much effort into being good healers. They have already nerfed illumination which was one of the things that made a pally such a great healer. The solution is if they are the best healers is to buff holy priests. Give them slightly more mana efficiency and useful talents instead of lightwell and circle of healing.

@29 Depending on what spec you are in any class there is going to be a whole spell book not being used. How often do you see a fire mage casting ice bolt in a raid? 80% or more of their spells cast are gonna be scorch and fireball, just two spells.

As a shadow priest I cast two dots and spam mind flay for the most part in a boss fight. I don't use smite, holy fire or any of my heals. Holy priests pretty much cast GH or FH and sometimes throw out PoM or a PWS.

I would also like to point out that pallys are the best at buffing in the game. They have multiple buffs for everyone. Most raids are not going to go well without their buffs. Since they are bringing so much to the raid with buffs/heals and tanking giving them a DPS slot as well seems OP to me. Before you know it there will be no need to bring anything other then pallys

Also the idea that they should be able to increase dps of other classes like shadow priests, I would have to say they already do that. How many more spells can I cast because of their wisdom buff or when they place wisdom on the target? How many more spells did I get out without having to worry about my threat because of salv? How much more damage was done with their might buff on the melee dps? Lets not forget kings either! They are already great at buffing/healing/tanking why should they get even more and possibly push other classes out?

Jul 31st 2007 2:20PM "I fail to understand how warlocks have everything either...last time I checked we kicked ass at dps and cc, but we couldn't tank or heal at all.'

Its called a joke. Do you know what they are?

"Besides, we're only top healers if we spec full holy, we're only good tanks if we spec full protection"

Umm yeah, exactly. What you wanna be able to be a top healer and not spec full holy? I don't understand what your saying? I can't spec part shadow and part holy and be a top healer as a priest.

My point is that pallys want to be able to tank/dps or heal. That is everything. A priest, druid, shaman, rogue or as you point out a warlock can not tank/dps or heal. Why should pallys be able to do everything when other classes can not?

The Light and How to Swing It: Raiding ret without the noob {WoW}

Jul 31st 2007 1:52PM Sounds like Pallys want to be mini gods. They can already be great tanks and fantastic healers, now they want to be a dps class as well? It also amazes me how someone always says, no they don’t want to be a top dpser, they just want more utility like a shadow priest.

Pallys have already taken the top healing spots from most holy priests and now you wanna try and be a shadow priests as well? Hello, you can’t have everything unless you’re a warlock. Let’s fix the holy tree for priests before worrying about ret pallys.

Finally, this nonsense about being betrayed please give it a rest! Stop being drama queens, when I created my first character I read that pallys did the least dps because they are designed to outlast their opponent. I did not create a pally because of this. If you read anything about the class or even the description when you created one you would have known this. Don’t come back now and QQ about it.

Yes, it is your $15 a month so roll whatever build you want. Just don’t complain if you can’t find a guild that wants to take you because those people are all paying $15 a month too. I am a priest, I can do two things well, heal or dps/utility. Pallys can tank or heal/utility. You don’t see priest complaining that they can’t get into a raid as full discipline do you? Make ret viable for raid DPS when they make a priest’s discipline tree viable for tanking.

Not each class should be able to do everything, simple as that. If anything pallys should be getting more buffs to the protection tree to make them even better tanks. This would make more sense because healing and tanking seem to be their primary roles in a raid.

Jul 30th 2007 4:51PM I am not particularly religious but I am not an atheist either. I agree with people who get annoyed by religious people being upset about something like this in a video game. It’s a game full of magic and symbols but it is make believe people.

I do not think someone who may be offend by some symbols in Goldshire necessarily means though that they are a religious fanatic that is gonna fly a plane into a building. They prolly have not completely thought the situation through or how hypocritical they are being.

However, the way their views generate such hateful comments from "non-believers" just shows the fanatical views of the other side. They don’t bother to bitch about other really important issues but as soon as someone is offended about something in their favorite video game they are up in arms. Why don't atheist and religious nutters both start caring about more important things instead of mud slinging?

Stop worrying that someone is gonna take something away from you. Atheists are not going to be closing down churches and churches aren’t gonna take away your porn or video games. Yes there are some instances where one tries to tread on the feet of the other but this is not the norm and often works out the way it should. Remember what happened when those people tried to get intelligent design taught in science class? The whole school board was voted out even though it was in a conservative part of the country.

Jul 30th 2007 10:20AM Where does 666 and a pentagram fit into WoW lore? One is a reference to the Bible (mark of the wild beast) and the other is a reference to Wicca. Come to think of it, shouldn't that offend people who practice Wicca?

As far as the atheists that denounce people for having faith, it is apparent that your enlightenment has done nothing to make you more tolerant of others who do not share your beliefs. You sound like born again atheists.
