Scheduled maintenance for Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 {WoW}

Sep 1st 2009 12:46AM wasn't the weekly downtime supposed to go away.... this is crap, one of the only time windows that I have open during my schedule any given week and the game won't even be up

Don't Panic: Frequently asked questions in 3.0.2 {WoW}

Oct 14th 2008 9:25PM Yes, I can confirm.

We've lost 60 pets of every rare variety and 40 mounts. The only thing left in the collector character's panel is the za bear, riding turtle, deathcharger, and brewfest ram.

These servers better not be back up till it all is brought 100% down for a 100% rollback to the serverstate when they were brought down at the end of last night.

Skill Mastery: Damage Shield {WoW}

Oct 14th 2008 1:41AM Ok. Damage shield owns.

I'll be charging into every pack, laying down full thunderclap, shockwave, and any silencing throws or reflects I need to get at casters standing and casting.

Then I'll be throwing down Coren's coin, autoblocker, shield block, and letting loose with slam against my main kill targets. Meanwhile damage shield is also laying down 500 or more damage to each enemy and mega threat. Around the time my buffs from these drop, tclap is coming back up, and I pop it, and then warstomp and charge to any caster still not on my clump to gag order them, intervene on back to any melee at original position. Next shockwave that comes up, I use while backpedaling to grab a charge back for more rage.

Warrior tanks get a whole new game to play in 3.0 and wrath

Breakfast Topic: What tabard do you wear? {WoW}

Aug 21st 2008 6:53PM I read all 6 pages of comments to make sure no one was as cool as me.

I wear my exalted aldor tabard which I was allowed to keep equipped, having switched to scryer last weekend. The scryers dont seem to get upset that I tote the purple aldor logo when I hearth at their inn or fly to their FP, and it is a badge of my grind of 1344 dampscale basilisk eyes, over 1000 signets, and over 30 tomes to hop from exalted aldor over to exalted scryer in one 20 minute turnin fest. I will never equip another tabard. Here's hoping that aldor/scryer mechanics aren't modified in wrath

Wrath news for Discipline and tanks {WoW}

Aug 5th 2008 8:33PM Honestly.....

A shield is an awesome thing to have put you on you in various situations. My first main was a raid healing priest. I now main tank.

1) You can use it to head in to a pull to give you an edge on the race to beat healing aggro vs the damage you are having to take. This is more useful in heroics which are very unforgiving, or if you are just not as geared as you could be, or having to use a gear setup such as for threat gen that is not favoring your damage avoidance/mitigation like in Reliquary of Souls phase 3.

2) You can have it put on you whilst anticipating very large damage but not actually taking any, and its damage prevention power can be stacked with actual casted heals and other hots to help you survive a lot more easily vs very large amounts of incoming damage. All of this flash heal is more efficient crap is garbage. You can't flash heal while casting greater heal. O_O

Buying your way through raid content {WoW}

Breakfast Topic: If you could change one thing {WoW}

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: On my treads {WoW}

Jul 4th 2008 2:59PM I think the most valid reason there's an issue was brought up in one of the Tank Talk columns-- There's X dps and X healers to the one tank for any run or raid. Tanks who DO become skilled and accomplish the runs they need usually end up growing out of that position very quickly and become useful to heroics and raiding guilds. They then are stuck being asked to do content they will benefit from not at all. The truly talented players are always on to the greater and shinier content. Let's illustrate this for the sake of complementing what Matthew is saying.

I like Matthew took a break shortly after BC hit. When I came back 6 months later I leveled a brand new tauren warrior up. I had 490 defense together for the second I hit 70, and immediately began filling the gaps in my gear with the pieces I needed from the 70 instances and quests, and it was onward and upward to a mind numbing amount of heroic Mechanar runs with my pitiful 11,500 hit points (along with assorted others-- which thoroughly thrashed me, mind you). I WAS that guy everyone wanted to get their instances going. For a very relatively short amount of time.

All of a sudden I was handed leadership of a guild, tanked karazhan onward till I had hit 15k HP from the Tier 4 quality and badge pieces. That guild collapsed due to lack of attendance/effort from almost everyone. Meanwhile I had become a much much stronger tank. I formed a new guild with a friend from my old guild at the start of BC. Our goal was to farm ZA till we had some numbers built up, then work our way through Hyjal and Black Temple. We're currently 4/5 4/9. I've never set foot inside a Tier 5 instance. I've worked hard to be a strong tank, and I get asked constantly to go do normal BM or random heroics. I've simply outgrown all of that.

On to my point: Why did I roll tank? My old main was a priest, and I could NEVER get a guild tank even to be around to run the instances we needed. I'd have an open offer to heal for any runs people needed, and they very rarely happened because no tank. I got very very tired of never having a tank to help do things after the raids were clear for the week.

Now, the tables are reversed. On off raid days and afternoons before raids, I'm always available to get those runs our people need tanked. They never happen. My healers are never around until raid time and they magically appear. I really want to get these runs tanked so we can get the badges and ZA gear we still need for some of our other tanks, DPS, and especially the healers. So most times I end up that I'm healing them on my now alt priest so we can strengthen our other tanks ;D He just hates the constant respecs as his main activity is PVP as an alt.

Two talent trees for the price of one? {WoW}

Jun 28th 2008 7:07PM This is very simple to implement. I think the most straight forward proposed method would be to utilize a cooldown that can be simply activated anytime, anyplace that it is up. An example of unique ability of this sort already exists in the game as the hearthstone.

I would think a 2-4 hour cooldown would be ideal. This allows the act of switching to be available for example to a tank who is not needed for every encounter in the instance he's running, but not available so easily that it shatters the idea of main spec off spec completely for everyone planning to attend the raid.

The other reason this has been ABSOLUTELY needed for a long long time is that a lot of people want to PVP and also do raids. Tanks and healers get stuck respeccing a lot and the time it takes to go and do that is more the issue than the gold you are sinking into it. So, I would be happiest if this were implemented with no cost to simply swap to your pre-allocated alt spec on a reasonable cooldown, without having to go out of your way too far.

This would be about as helpful as the change allowing you to not have to buy the ranks of talent abilities if it did retain a cost every swap and/or still asked you to visit class trainers.
