Report: $33M in EV tax credits went to buy unqualified vehicles {Autoblog Green}

Feb 3rd 2011 6:53PM A Hummer H3 gets 14mpg city and 18mpg highway. That is pitiful and yes it is thirsty. A bike on the other hand is at least not consuming any hydrocarbons. I believe the author should be more outraged at the Hummer than a bike. Additionally an electric bike could well be an EV, I have seen quite a few of them.

Th!nk City car not made for long road trips: 50 miles of driving, charge 3+ hours, repeat {Autoblog Green}

Jul 6th 2010 6:02PM I imported it from the Netherlands. The pricing and options are listed here http://www.ligfietsgaragegroningen.nl/mangosportuk.htm
My speed is higher than I would be on a road bike as long as I am on the flats or downhill. Going uphill I get a penalty for the weight. If you want to see estimates based on power, rolling resistance, weight, grade and aerodynamics you can use this sites calculator to see how it compares. http://hembrow.eu/personal/kreuzotter/espeed.htm

Jul 6th 2010 1:51PM I can do 150 miles a day on my Mango Sport Velomobile (human powered).- http://duncan-brain.blogspot.com/2010/07/my-mango-sport-arrived.html - In fact I will be doing a ride in 1.5 weeks of 224 miles in one day. And my mango easily carries groceries or other "stuff".

Bikes have much need of infrastructure as well.

Gas tax pop quiz: how long since it's been raised? {Autoblog Green}

Jan 25th 2010 6:32PM Even reducing your driving saves you money. You don't need to be car-free to save money by driving less. Your argument has no merit, an indexed gas tax would push people to save money is one of the easy ways to do so.

Those who drive for a living can deduct the expense in any case. So even those who have a job dependent on driving can reduce their personal usage while still driving for their job.

Gas tax pop quiz: how long since it's been raised? {Autoblog Green}

Jan 25th 2010 5:35PM I didn't say replace the car, I said ditch it. As in, take the bus, ride a bike or walk. Believe me, doing without a car is much cheaper than trying to keep one running. Especially if feeding your family is hard.

Gas tax pop quiz: how long since it's been raised? {Autoblog Green}

Jan 25th 2010 3:42PM If you can't feed your children ditch the car. It is a money pit.

The gas tax should be indexed and it should be 6 or 7 times larger than it is.

GM and Segway working on new balancing 2-wheeler? {Autoblog Green}

Apr 7th 2009 11:37AM There are some pretty simple electric kits for bikes. Their range is much greater than 35 miles since you pedal them as well as use the electric power. An electrified bike wouldn't be so prone to end-over-end crashes as the segway ev pictured. If you are looking for something covered there are a number of velomobiles commercially available ( http://www.velomobiling.com/velomobiles ). Many velomobiles can come with electric assist from the manufacturer. The stability and speed of a velo is much greater than a segway. The aerodynamics of a velo are also superior to the segway pictured. That translates to lower energy cost, both in human power and battery.

I might point out that a Velomobile can be pedaled at 25mph quite easily; any velo with an electric assist is quite fast. Segway is working to solve a problem that doesn't exist again.

GM and Segway working on new balancing 2-wheeler? {Autoblog Green}

Apr 7th 2009 1:05AM So sad, this is a stupid idea. I already dislike the Segway, now making it go faster?!? I am sure they will try to get it to use bike lanes and other bike facilities. What a festering pile of @%!#. A bike or an electrified bike is so much better, especially as it still is using human power even if electrified.

Even from the picture above you can see how this device will be prone to endos. I am disappointed.

Segway on its last legs? {Autoblog Green}

Jan 14th 2009 12:46PM I have always disliked the segway. It claimed to be so much better than bikes yet compared to a bike it is just a waste of resources. It is more expensive to make, use, and maintain than a bike. Silly device, I am glad to see it go.

Eliica - the most electric thing on eight wheels {Autoblog Green}

Dec 29th 2008 7:25PM If 8 wheels works, then it works. Function over form is fine by me. Personally I think a "real car company" would just screw the pooch with this technology. I would love to see this car in production assuming it wasn't 250k USD in cost.

If they got a version working that went 70 MPH and had a 200 mile range then that would be awesome.
