Patch 5.4 PTR: Siege of Orgrimmar raid testing Tuesday and Wednesday

There's more raid testing on the PTR for the Siege of Orgrimmar as the release date for patch 5.4 creeps steadily closer. Coming up this week is Heroic, 25-man testing for Galakras, Malkorok, Paragons of the Klaxxi, Sha of Pride, Spoils of Pandaria, and Thok the Bloodthirsty. So if checking out new raid encounters is your idea of good fun, there's plenty coming up in the next couple of days. Here's the current schedule:

Tuesday
  • Galakras: 10:30 PDT (13:30 EDT, 19:30 CEST)
  • Malkorok: 13:30 PDT (16:30 EDT, 22:30 CEST)
  • Paragons of the Klaxxi: 16:00 PDT (19:00 EDT, 01:00 CEST)
Wednesday
  • Sha of Pride: 10:30 PDT (13:30 EDT, 19:30 CEST)
  • Spoils of Pandaria: 13:30 PDT (16:30 EDT, 22:30 CEST)
  • Thok the Bloodthirsty: 16:00 PDT (19:00 EDT, 01:00 CEST)
But the schedule is subject to change. According to Watcher:
Watcher
As always, this testing schedule is very fluid and subject to the realities of a beta environment. We might have to change the time of a testing session, change the boss being tested, or cancel a test entirely, due to bugs, server hardware issues, etc.

For more details, head to the PTR forums. Happy testing!

Patch 5.4 PTR: Shaohao reputation preview on Wowhead

Patch 54 PTR Shaohao reputation preview on Wowhead
You've heard about Shaohao, the last Emperor of Pandaria, and patch 5.4 brings us an Emperor Shaohao faction on the Timeless Isle. No, this isn't another painful series of daily quests you'll have to grind through: instead Emperor Shaohao faction will be gained by killing things on the Timeless Isle and offers vanity loot in exchange for Timeless Coins, which you also collect by killing things on the Timeless Isle.

For those hungry for more info, Wowhead has posted a guide to Emperor Shaohao reputation as it exists on the PTR. So check it out and be ready to dive into Timeless Isle grinding when patch 5.4 hits the live realms on September 10th.

Patch 5.4 PTR: Pet cap raised to 1,000

Patch 54 PTR Pet cap raised to 1,000
Pet collectors rejoice! No longer are you held back, burdened by the oppressive regime that prevents you from expressing your burning and undying love for WoW pet collection. Finally, with patch 5.4, the pet cap will be raised from 650 to 1,000!

While many players, including me, are nowhere near the cap of 650 pets, a cursory glance at sites like warcraftpets.com indicates that there are many players rapidly approaching the cap, if not quite there yet. The top collector on their rankings has 567 unique pets, not to mention any duplicates. Indeed this site shows that there are currently 580 battle pets available, and we already know of several new pets being added with 5.4, so this increase in the cap is welcome indeed.

A quick glance at my character reveals that, on the account with the most pets, I have a paltry 103. There is little to no likelihood of my troubling the 650 pet cap at any time soon. Where are you with your menagerie?

Patch 5.4 PTR: Celestial Tournament and legendary questline details

Patch 54 PTR Celestial Tournament and legendary questline details
Wowhead's brought us more details on the Celestial Tournament and legendary questline. The tournament, live on the patch 5.4 PTR now, has some added details: the stands are full of spectators and decorated with banners, vendors sell booze and noodle bowls, and brightly-colored Sky Lanterns are available for purchase for the steep cost of 7500 Timeless Coins.

In legendary questline news, Wowhead has compiled some useful updates from Lore that clarify questline questions. The most interesting, we think, is that players who have been keeping up with legendary questline from patch to patch should be able to quickly complete it to get their legendary cloak once 5.4 has been released. This will let players use the cloaks to progress through the Siege of Orgrimmar raid. Handy!

Weapons and stats for ret paladins in Siege of Orgrimmar

Image
Every week, WoW Insider brings you The Light and How to Swing It for holy, protection and retribution paladins. Seasoned ret paladin Dan Desmond is here to answer your questions and provide you with your biweekly dose of retribution medicine. Contact him at dand@wowinsider.com with any questions, concerns, or suggestions!

Weapons have always been my favorite piece of gear. They're iconic and powerful; they define our spec more clearly than any spell or ability. So when I stepped into Throne of Thunder and finally saw Zerat, Malakk's Soulburning Greatsword drop, I took one look at my aging Shin'ka, Execution of Dominion, a pale copy of its normal and heroic variants, and quickly tossed the axe aside. And then did the same thing to Zerat when we saw Uroe, Harbinger of Terror drop from Lei Shen. And again when a heroic Greatsword of Frozen Hells gracefully tumbled from the heavens and landed on the corpse of Horridon, nestled in whatever pockets or pouches or sacs a massive direhorn may have.

As patch 5.4 and the Siege of Orgrimmar loom on the horizon, some exciting and deadly instruments wait to be plundered. Since this will (okay, might) be the final raid of the expansion, now is a good time to reexamine our stat weights before we make any judgment calls on the bludgeons that those savages have to offer.

Patch 5.4: Arena teams out, cross-realm arenas in

Patch 5.4 is already shaping up to be a big one, and today Blizzard announced some major arena changes in addition to the tie-breaking system. Aiming to improve the arena experience by making it easier for anyone to compete, arena players will no longer need an arena team (in fact, arena teams don't even appear in the UI on the PTR): in patch 5.4, queuing for an arena match will work similarly to queuing for rated battlegrounds. You'll be matched with other players queuing to fight with and against, based on your rating. Additionally, matches are no longer limited to your battlegroup: you'll be able to play with or against anyone in your region, and even be able to compete in cross-realm groups with friends on other realms. Matches themselves will stay (mostly) the same, though your conquest point cap and requirements to purchase items will be based on your personal rating.

These changes are live on the PTR now if you want to check them out for yourself. See the full text of Blizzard's announcement under the break.
