The Queue: O Joanna

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

It's that time again -- time to remind everyone that Joanna Blueheart exists and is awesome.

Magnus asked:

Am I wrong, or did Joanna Blueheart not make the cut for the Alliance garrison? I think she was the very first character requested when one of the devs asked on Twitter whom we wanted to have in our garrison and she has had something of a cult following of Alliance fans throughout the years. Seems like a missed opportunity by the devs if they had forgotten about her.

Breakfast Topic: Your loyal followers

We've kicked this topic around a little previously, but developer Jeremy "Muffinus" Feasel, in reference to garrison followers, posed the following question to the community:

If we could have anyone of our choosing as followers in our garrison, I foresee countless requests for raid bosses. Sure, I'll have Deathwing as a buddy! Approaching the question seriously, though, I'd love to have many of the true-and-blue Alliance questgivers we've seen in recent years. Joanna Blueheart from the Swamp of Sorrows tops my list. Questing through that zone, she was an excellent example of the Alliance's approach to war -- though, if you play the Horde side of things, the Alliance ultimately loses in the Swamp of Sorrows. Maybe that says something about Alliance warfare. Regardless, Joanna's the kind of person I'd want on my team.

Members of the SI:7 team from early Mists of Pandaria would be wonderful. Mishka and Amber Kearnen are great. I guess Sully can come, too. Also awesome? The Wrath-era members of the 7th Legion. Responses to the aforementioned tweet include Anren and Tholo, Asric and Jadaar, Cro Threadstrong, Thisalee Crow, Sky Admiral Rogers, and Captain Placeholder, among others.

Who (or what) would you enlist in your army, given the freedom to choose anyone?

Breakfast Topic: What secondary character would you promote to a leading role?

It's become sort of an undercurrent in a lot of WoW lore discussion lately that not everyone is happy with their leaders. Varian is too angry and doesn't do anything. Jaina's an appeaser and a crybaby. Malfurion's a jerk. Sylvanas is so evil that she makes Arthas look like a little puppy.

Of course, Blizzard has a whole new expansion coming soon, so we may just see more from these leaders that could change our minds -- or at least let us accept their story arcs. That said, what if Blizzard took an opposite tack? What if it just either killed off the leaders or swept them to the side and let other characters step up to drive the narrative going forward?

Know Your Lore: A miscellany of characters

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You're playing the game, you're fighting the bosses, you know the how -- but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

There are a lot of interesting characters in World of Warcraft who deserve some time in the spotlight, but who don't have major, epic, world-changing effects on the storyline of the game. They exist, they put in their appearances and then move back out of the spotlight, these Harry Dean Stantons of the Warcraft universe. Some date back to original WoW, while others debuted in Cataclysm, but all are characters that managed to grab the attention with their time on the stage.

This week I wanted to take a look at these supporting characters. Some no longer exist in the game; others you can still run into. Some have a reoccurring presence; others came and went. Like J.T. Walsh, when you see them you immediately think, "Hey, it's that guy" (or sometimes girl, or even thing). I expect this will be a mini-feature in this column, as there are a lot of supporting characters in the game worthy of a mention. I'd have liked to include Joanna Blueheart this time around, but she really only appears in one quest chain and it doesn't feel like it's time yet. Still, she is really awesome, so she's the header image this week.
