It came from the Blog Midsummer Flamefest 2013 snapshots DNP
Last month, It came from the Blog held its annual Flamefest, celebrating the Midsummer Fire Festival. Each year, we pick a continent and flame it. This year, we set the Eastern Kingdoms on fire.

First, we met in Brill, where the statue of the Dark Lady presides over all doings there. Then we went to the ruins of Lordaeron and took the portal to Silvermoon City. We rode through town, out the front gate and over to the fire outside Falconwing Square. After that, we headed to Tranquillien in the Ghostlands to honor the flame there.

We took the flightpath back to the city, ran to the portal, returned to the ruins and then headed to Silverpine Forest. Once there, we traveled to the Sepulcher where we again honored the flame and spun around in circles. Then off to Tarren Mill we went, passing inconspicuous bears as we went.

Guide to the Midsummer Fire Festival 2013

The Midsummer Fire Festival will run from Friday, June 21 to Friday, July 5 this year. As always, check your ingame calendar to determine the exact start and stop times for your server. While there aren't actually a lot of achievements associated with the Festival (the meta consists of only six), three of them require serious travel time, and one also requires a set of dangerous trips to enemy capitals. For the trouble, Alliance players are awarded the Flame Warden title, and Horde players Flame Keeper.

If you're starting from scratch, this is definitely one of the more work-intensive holidays necessary for the completion of What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been. However, even a fresh character can afford to get all the rewards from holiday vendors if you're diligent about hitting all the holiday's fires, quests, and dailies.

The basics of the holiday involve "honoring" or "desecrating" a series of fires across Azeroth and Outland. For convenience, we've listed all of the fires on each continent in a specific direction so you can reach them as efficiently as possible. This year, Blizzard has updated the holiday boss' loot list with ilevel 480 cloaks and weapons and added a set of fires to Pandaria, but there aren't that many; you'll only have an additional 7 fires to honor and one to desecrate on the continent.

Breakfast Topic: Did you meet your Midsummer Fire Festival goals?

Midsummer Fire
Tonight there will be a fireworks display in Azeroth to celebrate the end of the Midsummer Fire Festival. Today is also Independence Day in the United States, and fireworks (illegal or otherwise) will be going off to celebrate that as well.

Though the Fire Festival is a long holiday compared to most of the others, there is so much to do that the timeframe can seem inadequate for getting all you want done. You can buy a new hat, get obscene experience, and earn a new title -- and that's just some of the fun.

I achieved one goal and not the other. Yay! It came from the Blog Flamefest 2012! Boo, still didn't get the meta on my druid. Ah well, I'll have another chance next year.

What about you?

It came from the Blog: Join us for Flamefest 2012

It came from the Blog Join us for Flamefest 2012
It's that time of the year again when we get to set things on fire. Many things. So very many things. We also get tons of experience and gold and maybe even a hat. Join It came from the Blog for a Pre-Flamefest gathering with some of the WoW Insider staff and then the burning of things for the Midsummer Fire Festival.
  • When: Friday, June 29 at 10:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. PDT, 8:30 p.m. server time) for the pre-event gathering and 11 p.m. EDT (8 p.m. PDT, 9 p.m. server time) for Flamefest.
  • Where: Meet at the festival area in Thunder Bluff on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H).
  • Who: Any Horde character level 10 or higher for the first part of the Flamefest, but you need to know all the Azerothian flight paths (non-Cataclysm) for the final part.
  • What: Meet, greet, then set things on fire in a mostly orderly fashion.
We will be running to flames on foot for the first part of Flamefest so that more levels can join. (Stay on the road! Protect the lowbies!) But the latter part of the event will be via flight paths so that we can complete the continent more easily.

We always have a lot of fun for Flamefest. Please join us!

New Midsummer Fire Festival item: Helm of the Fire Festival

New Midsummer Fire Festival item Helm of the Fire Festival
I know what you've been thinking. You want something to wear on your head that your friends can use for cooking. Well, now your wish has come true!

The Helm of the Fire Festival is not only a fashionable hat for the style-conscious player, it also allows your friends to cook on your head. You have to kneel, of course, but this functionality is already included in the helm.

Be the life of the party and the envy of your friends! It is reportedly available to be purchased for the low, low price of 350 Burning Blossoms, but this is not confirmed.

Burning Blossoms are of course earned for performing certain tasks during the Midsummer Fire Festival, which began today. Check out this handy guide and start the path to having your very own Helm of the Fire Festival.

Available from June 21 to July 4 only. Some restrictions apply.

Breakfast Topic: What are your Midsummer Fire Festival goals?

Breakfast Topic What are your Midsummer Fire Festival goals
The Midsummer Fire Festival begins today. Pyromaniacs, activate! The Fire Festival is a full-featured holiday complete with dailies that mostly involve torches, achievements that mostly involve setting fire to things, and a title that has the word Flame.

Ahune The Frost Lord is the boss to kill for this holiday (since he's not so big on fire). You have to ice him if you want to get the meta for the Fire Festival, which is part of What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been.

What the Midsummer Fire Festival also involves: traveling, more traveling, world PvP, and traveling. I highly recommend celebrating the holiday with friends, though maybe not quite so many as that one time.

My goal is for my druid to finally complete it, to be one step closer to the Violet Proto-Drake. The It came from the Blog family of guilds will also be hosting a Fire Festival event, like we do every year. Stay tuned for an announcement soon™.

What are your goals for the Midsummer Fire Festival? Are you going to go for the meta? Is there a particular item you are trying to get? Or are you going to ignore it completely? (Bah, humbug!)

Guide to Midsummer Fire Festival 2012 achievements

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, you'll be running a lot of Fed-Ex quests.

The Midsummer Fire Festival will run from Thursday, June 21 to Wednesday, July 4 this year. (This year, OverAchiever gives you an effective week's notice on the holiday.) While there aren't actually a lot of achievements associated with the Festival -- the meta awards the Flame Warden title to Alliance players and Flame Keeper title to Horde players but consists of only six achievements -- three of them require you to put in some serious travel time, and one also requires a set of dangerous trips to enemy capitals.

If you're starting from scratch, this is definitely one of the more work-intensive holidays you'll have to clear for What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been. However, the one really good thing about all the work ahead of you is that even if you're starting from scratch, you can afford to get all the rewards from holiday vendors if you're diligent about hitting all the fires, quests, and dailies.

As far as we're aware, there have been no major changes to the holiday apart from the addition of achievements for Northrend and Cataclysm fires, but as always, I'll be around to update and add to the guide in the event that Blizzard springs something new on us. If Blizzard's also added fires to Pandaria on the beta, we'll have a head start on next year's holiday as well.

EDIT: I had a few inaccurate fires that I thought I'd fixed up last year. My apologies, folks -- I've visited them all again this year and made sure the coordinates are accurate as of Cataclysm. I've also rearranged the guides in a rough north-to-south direction to make it easier for anyone who's covering the continents. I hope that helps!

The OverAchiever: The worst (maybe) holiday achievements

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, some holidays are easier to survive than others.

I've been getting a lot of comments and feedback from players recently over troublesome elder placement during the Lunar Festival (the one next to the Razor Hill flightmaster seems to be a particular issue -- more on this in a future article), and it spurred me to start thinking about problematic holiday achievements as a whole. Thing is, Blizzard's really put a lot of effort into its holidays over the past few years, and most of them are much less time-consuming and frustrating then they used to be.

So how many really troublesome holiday achievements are there these days, anyhow? Most of them didn't figure prominently in our evil achievements series (with one sterling exception), but I'll grant that not all of them are sunshine and roses.

But then of course, there's that one. Yes, that one -- the achievement shat into existence by Satan himself onto a bed of Ed Hardy clothing with bad Japanese pop music playing in the background. You know the one I'm talking about.

The OverAchiever: Examining patch 4.3's new achievements

New Darkmoon Faire achievements on the patch 4.3 PTR.
Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, all hell breaks loose.

Hey folks. The Littlest Pet Shop option was the most popular choice in last week's The OverAchiever: Wrapping up Mountain O' Mounts, but that was before all manner of patch 4.3 goodness was datamined on Tuesday night. I spent the subsequent 24 hours in a caffeine-fueled haze running three characters around the PTR investigating the new achievements for you.

I bring tidings of great, albeit currently bugged, joy to you all.

Patch 4.3 PTR: New achievements uncovered

Darkmoon Faire
Our friends over at Wowhead have uncovered the first batch of new patch 4.3 achievements, and there are some pretty awesome ones. Most of them refer to either new holiday content (primarily Winter Veil and Midsummer Fire Festival) or the new Darkmoon Faire, although there are a few achievements from the new dungeons.

Be warned that the titles and descriptions of these achievements may contain spoilers. Here are a few of my favorites:
  • That's Not Canon! comes from defeating a certain boss in the Caverns of Time in a certain manner. A bit of a thumbed nose at people who don't like all this time travel? Maybe, but the title's hilarious enough that I can't stop chuckling.
  • A-Caroling We Will Go Now this is how you spread Winter Veil cheer. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to don my gaudiest sweater and break some Orcish eardrums.
  • I Was Promised a Pony Looks like our good friend Ghostcrawler got some achievement naming duties this time around. You can't deny it forever, Greg. It's true, and you know it. We are still waiting.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Look at what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

It came from the Blog: Midsummer Flamefest 2011 snapshots

Last Saturday, It came from the Blog set fire to the Eastern Kingdoms for this year's Midsummer Flamefest. We started off in Silvermoon City with a party, then continued south through the continent until we reached Ironforge -- where we met our deaths. We honored or extinguished all of the fires in blood elf lands and Forsaken lands. We even bopped over to the Western Plaguelands, since it was right there.

/point

There is no longer a flame to desecrate if you are Horde in Hillsbrad, so our first Alliance flame was Refuge Pointe in Arathi. We also got the ones in Menethil, Thelsamar and Khaz Modan. We didn't meet very much Alliance resistance until we got to Ironforge, but there, the Allies made up for it. A widdle gnome mage took me down several times, when the dwarven guards didn't get me themselves. Regardless, the event was tons of fun.

I didn't manage to get pictures of my many pathetic deaths, but they are all caught on video. You can see the gallery of flame below.

We have events at least once every month. Please join us!
