Reader WoWspace of the Week: Mneth

The calls for the 'everyman' setup have been heard, and this week, Mneth has sent in his submission to share with all of us. There's a lot of old-school comfort in this setup -- which is a lot closer to my setup, at least. (as a matter of fact, I think I had that same chair before!) While I'm all for the picture that is worth a thousand words, I much prefer to give people a chance to tell us about the things that make their WoWspace unique. As such, check out some words from Mneth about his Reader WoWspace after the jump!

Reader WoWspace of the Week: Taeo

That's right -- the same man that gave us the wildly popular UI this last week that many of us spent quite some time chewing on and are now running also sent in his reader WoWspace! Since so many people were wondering why the screen resolution was so large in regards to his gorgeous UI design, that it might be worthwhile to show off his equally impressive Reader WoWspace to you this week. I know once I saw it, it made a lot more sense to me. This isn't just a WoWspace - this is a full out gaming space! The flat-panel television that Taeo is using for a monitor is also hooked up to a Wii and a 360 to make this a sweet all-in-one gaming space!

Reader WoWspace of the Week: March 21 - 28

This week on Reader WoWspace, Thijz writes:

I took three pictures of my setup. I took them with my mobile phone (my mom stole the camera) so they're not very high quality.

On the first one you can see this:

Top shelf: (left to right)
- Some random books and CD's, as well as a Princess Mononoke DVD
- My printer (HP Deskjet D2360) nothing special
- Center speaker of my Logitech X530 5.1 speakerset
- A picture of my cat
- WoW and BC boxes, as some sort of tribute :P
- Behind those are some boxes from my motherboard, mouse etc, in which I keep driver-CD's and instruction books

Reader WoWspace of the Week: Feb 28 - March 6

This week's WoWspace setup is brought to us by Kerri, who you may better know as Lysaara of Nox Invictus. I'm not sure which server she's on, but I'm loving the WoWSpace.

Hmmm.. Lets see. I took this a couple weeks ago to show a friend my new monitor, thought I'd send it in...

Left-to-rightish:
  • lumpy funky lightbulb for behind the monitors to reduce eye-strain on endless Scholo runs
  • 60Gb iPod (because iTunes can be a resource hog!)
  • diet Coke
  • Nostromo for, as the marketing on its package advertised, "Faster Frags!"
  • 2x3GHz Dual-Core MacPro under the desk
    • 4Gb RAM
    • ATI Radeon x1900
  • gamepad for MAME breaks
  • Sennheisser HD-570 headphones
  • USB Vent headset
  • 23" 16:9 ViewSonic - this is my main display (I took this photo right after the last patch, so I don't have my UI up..)
  • 21" 4:3 Dell - with Yahoo IM, Ventrillo, webBrowser with thottbot, wowwiki, and guild website open
  • Microsoft "Natural Touch" keyboard - I'm a programmer in as my day job, need to avoid that RSI..)
  • various junk under the monitors
  • John Vanderslice, Blackalicious, Joanna Newsome (!), and a couple Phish albums
  • deodorant (hey, a girl's gotta smell nice even though she's raiding..)
  • "power shelf" to the right of the monitors... I have no idea what else to call this, but I ninja'd it from a former employer, and its got switches for all the lights in my room
  • Ott-Lite full-spectrum lamp.. this helps with eye-strain and with Seasonal Depression (I saw the sun here in Seattle last November, as I recall...)
  • Vitamin C - gotta stay healthy and sharp!
  • a pair of Altec Lansing surround sound speakers... normally these live directly behind the monitors, but I'm in the middle of rewiring
  • the rear channels for watching DVDs
  • Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 - BEST mouse I've ever owned, sadly discontinued. I may get the new 5.0 wireless one at some point, but only once this one dies. It has 2 thumb-buttons that I have mapped to keystrokes in-game. Combined with the Nostromo, I only use my keyboard for chat
As always, keep sending in your WoWspace entries, with a nice description (the more thorough, the more chance of being posted), and a few photos (2 or 3 is best).

Reader WoWspace of the Week: February 21 to 27

Short and sweet this week. Okay, maybe the space is more grotty than sweet, but I'll let submitter Charlie explain:

You guys seem to be featuring really neat and nice set-ups, so I thought I'd show you what most WoW player's desks look like! In order from left to right: Latest Newsweek, bottle of water, Bourne Supremacy, LOTR The Two Towers (Extended), a Hotpocket, an old Canon AE-1 (for when I do shoot film), Klipsch speakers (eh, they're ok, field is a little narrow), Apple 20" Cinema Display, iPod Mini (it's there, trust me), 90+ year old negatives from my grandmother that I need to take into work to restore (brown envelope), BC mouse pad, USB multi-card reader I ninja'd from work, RAZR, Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 with 2GB of RAM, ATi Radeon 9600 with 128MB of DDR (eh, need to upgrade), old Joystick from when I used to play flight sims all night long, and my Ventrilo headset.

Remember to send your submissions in to our Reader WoWspace address, along with a couple of good photos of your space.

Reader WoWspace of the Week: February 14 - 20

It's Wednesday night, so you know what that means!! No, not LOST.. sheesh.. It's time for Reader WoWspace of the Week, the lengthily-titled spotlight on YOU and YOUR SYSTEM!

This week it's back to a very clean setup, with a nice graphical twist at the end. I'll let the submitter explain:

I saw your article yesterday on Reader WoWspace and it reminded me of the glorious days of the site Spymac which used to ave a similar feature for Mac users.

It was enough to inspire me to dust off the digital camera and take a couple shots of the 3 places that I play most of my Warcraft at these days. The first is in my office which features a 30" Apple Cinema display being driven by a Dual G5 PowerMac (not shown). Next it on the desk is a 15" MacBookPro. Picture #2 is being driven by a 17" PowerBook on the previous generation 23" Cinema display and the last one (and perhaps the most comfortable!) is the 15" MacBookPro in ye 'olde comfortable chair (you gotta love WiFi).

What can I say, this game drives you to do some strange things and hence my motivation for sending in these pics. In 2006, I setup a little guild website called horderising.com which has turned into a collection of videos / comics / pictures about WoW that highly the creativity of the community. It's just something I did for fun and I thank wow.com for also highlighting the best in the wow community.

Take care,

Jeff

I'm just a big fan of the clean setup, but the real kicker is here. Take a look at the back of his MacBook Pro! Imagine taking this puppy to meetings with clients - those in the know will fear you and respect you simply because you're showing off the might of the Horde. It just gives me a good laugh. I wonder what non-WoW players think of it. Have any of you customized your rigs with WoW art or designs?
