Check out the DC Series 8 and Premium Series 4 action figures

Blizzard sent the WoW Insider offices a batch of the brand new DC Series 8 and Premium Series 4 action figures to play around with. As a guy who is currently typing words on a World of Warcraft blog, you can imagine that I appreciate the occasional action figure. I've been impressed with the detail on the DC series in the past, especially the Garrosh and Lady Vashj figures, and was excited to see these up close. Check out this gallery of shots that I took at an expensive studio space in a trendy area in Brooklyn.

World of Warcraft action figures series 8 first look

Reader Jab tipped us off to pictures of DC Unlimited's series 8 of the World of Warcraft action figures, featuring:

Gnome rogue Brink Spannercrank vs. Kobold Miner Snaggle
The Black Knight
Forsaken priestess Confessor Dhalia

All of the figures so far look really cool, and it's nice to see Blizzard having DC add in these quirky characters. The release date for the series 8 figures is slated for May 11, 2011. Check out the first-look pictures here. Series 6 is really cool, and these new figures don't seem like they're going to disappoint. Still ahead are the upcoming Series 7 figures, including human paladin Judge Malthred, orc rogue Garona and worgen spy Garm Whitefang.

Check out all of the DC Unlimited WoW action figures at the DC website. On the site, each series lists places where you can order or pick up figures, including plenty of brick-and-mortar stores for you old-school shoppers.

World of WarCrafts: Custom World of Warcraft harpy figure

It's Monday, which means you get some interesting WoW-related crafts to distract you from the Monday blues! Speaking of blues, today's creation is all about the color blue -- a custom-made action figure portraying one of the more annoying denizens of The Barrens. Cincicustoms from the Staghelm server managed to whip up this custom harpy figure in record time, all the while putting in an incredible amount of detail.

World of WarCrafts: March roars in like a Zhevra

Ahh, March ... Roaring in like a lion comes a rush of WoW-inspired creativity from fans and readers. (Hopefully, we won't find ourselves sheeped like lambs by the end of the month -- but that's a matter better left to Mr. Archmage Pants.)

First up, the only lambishly sweet of the bunch this week: yes, it's My Little Zhevra. This handmade custom named Zebu the Zhevra comes from thatg33kgirl at Deviant Art. (If Zebu provokes squees of cuteness overload, be sure to also check out last summer's My Lich King Pony.)

Custom art for hunters, several selections of fan fiction, a custom character figure from a WoW.com reader, plus wicked wallpapers for warlocks, all coming up after the break.

World of WarCrafts: Custom Arthas figure

This week's WarCraft comes from Jilara of Southshore, US Perenolde (aka WoW.com reader RetPallyJil ) -- and yes, that's Arthas himself. The 12-inch customized figure is a patchwork of modified parts and handcrafted pieces. Arthas wields a "Fantasy Letter Opener" Frostmourne from eBay, refined and repainted.

"As for Arthas, I started with a Dragon Models' Alexander the Great as a base figure," she explained to World of WarCrafts. "It was fairly expensive, but I thought the face sculpt was worth it; youthful without being boyish, mature without being craggy. The hair had to be special-ordered -- it's nylon instead of the world standard acrylic (to which I'm terribly allergic.) Again, it was somewhat expensive, but sculpted hair wouldn't do him justice."

DC shows off Series 5 figures

DC has officially announced their latest series of World of Warcraft action figures, and while there are only four figures shown off so far, they look awesome. These are the same figures we saw in the coverage of the New York Comic Con -- there's Lo'gosh (better known as Varian Wrynn, the new King of Stormwind), Hunter Alathea Moonbreeze and her pet Sorna, a demon form Illidan (hot!), and Rottingham, a Ghoul. We've got pictures of all the new figures in our gallery below.

Unfortunately, we aren't going to see this for sale for a long, long time -- DC has the date of release set as October 28, 2009. That doesn't really seem right to us (they only want to release four figures this year?), but that's what they say, so we'll go with it. Still, that Illidan figure looks awesome. The Hunter would be cute, and Lo'gosh would be nice to have if you're a fan of the comic book series, but Illidan is definitely the standout so far. DC shows off what look like Series 4 Figures at ComicCon

Empire magazine is already posting pictures from this weekend's ComicCon out in San Diego (WoW Insider also has correspondents there on site), and though they have no idea what they've stumbled across, it sure looks to us like what might be DC Unlimited's Series 4 WoW figurines. And rather than just the standard player characters, Blizzard and DC are going a little NPC for this series -- as you can see above, they've included everyone's favorite elite gnoll, Hogger himself. Also included in the series are a Succubus of some sort (with what looks like a Tauren with a polearm in the back there), and a gun-wielding Tauren Hunter.

The figures all have signs that say "Worldwide Debut Friday 4pm" on them, so it looks like we're getting to see them a little early. And Blizzard is excited, too -- Slorkuz has even written a poetic ode to Hogger in honor of his likeness being immortalized.

We'll keep an eye out for more info -- looks like DC is expanding their action figure line to include a few more less traditional character types. Who else should they honor with a figure in the future?

DC Unlimited releases Series 2 of the Warcraft action figures

DC Comics has released series 2 of their World of Warcraft action figures. Coming after series 1, and the next series due in November, this set includes a Draenei Paladin, a Gnome Warrior (looking great despite being mounted), a Human Warrior (rocking the Sword of a Thousand Truths), a Night Elf Druid, and a Troll Priest. You can see pictures of all the figures below -- they look great as usual, but as usual, it would be even better to have actual figures of our characters that look this good. Too bad FigurePrints hasn't got that figured out yet.

Are you planning on picking one of these up? You can get them from the DC direct sales site, or at a comics and hobby retailer near you. Looks like MSRP is around $14.99, but as with all of this collectible stuff, your mileage may vary.

Series 3 action figures incoming!

Toy News International reports that the World of Warcraft action figures from DC Direct are coming in the last quarter of this year. I love my toys and I love WoW so this comes as great news, particularly with the new selection of figures -- a Blood Elf Paladin named Quin'thalan Sunfire (hell yeah!); Tamuura, a Draenei Mage; an Undead Rogue called Skeeve Sorrowblade; and a Human Priest, Sister Benedron, who can probably cure your allergies. As with previous World of Warcraft action figures from DC direct, the sculpts are mostly based on existing armor sets that players might recognize.

Tamuura sports the Tier 6 raid set Tempest Regalia, while Sister Benedron is depicted in Tier 5 Avatar gear with exaggerated shoulder wings; Skeeve Sorrowblade appears to be wearing a highly-detailed version of Deathmantle, the Rogue Tier 5 set; and Quin'thalan Sunfire looks... well, he looks like he's a generic Silvermoon City guard whom you ask for directions. It's a bit disappointing, personally, although I guess it's cool to have a Silvermoon City guard. It would be kind of like having a named Stormtrooper or something. Historically, DC Direct's action figures have appeared in the World of Warcraft comic, so expect one or more of these new figures to make an appearance in the Chris Metzen-approved canon comic series.

Series 1 Warcraft action figures on sale

WorldofWarcraft.com yesterday announced that the Series 1 World of Warcraft Action Figures are now in stores and ready to fill up your Christmas shopping list. Series 1, created by DC Unlimited, currently has five figures in it, and they are exquisite in their detail. These are high quality babies with multiple points of articulation, and I know I am definitely going to want to get me a set.

Comic book stores across the country currently have them in stock and ready to take home, or if you prefer, stop by your local Toy-R-Us. I did a little web digging and found that they are also available on ToysRUs.com for about $12.00, although they are listed as a Pre-Order item still, so you might have to wait a couple of weeks on an Internet purchase.

WoW Insider's Brewfest Giveaway!

It's Brewfest time-- the Dwarves of Azeroth are completely soused (oh no wait, that's every week), and we're also partaking in the drinking activities here at WoW Insider-- don't worry, we're all above 21. Well, level 21 anyway.

The crew at DC Unlimited also want to join the fun, and they've sent us this terrific Thargas Anvilmar, one of their Warcraft action figures, to give to one of you lucky readers. He's a striking Dwarf Warrior wielding a mean two hander and wearing a full set of Tier 5. It's the perfect piece to add to your Warcraft toy-- whoops, excuse me-- collectible collection. And it's not even set to be released until October 24th, so you get a chance to win it early!
