Around Azeroth: Going green

Around Azeroth Going green MONDAY
It's pretty amazing what lengths people in this game will go to for minor aesthetic changes to their character. Running endless dungeons for transmog gear, spending hundred of thousands of gold on jewelcrafting mounts, and of course leveling and training battle pets so they can have the rarest companion possible. Now with the introduction of the green fire quests in Patch 5.2, warlocks can undergo an entire questline to change the color of their spells. Submitter Pinkbunnie of Azeroth Alliance Raiders on Ghostlands (EU-A) has been trying to get her green fire since March 24 and finally defeated Kanrethad a few days ago. Congratulations!

Around Azeroth: Everything looks worse in black and white

Around Azeroth Everything looks worse in black and white SUNDAY
What's the best outfit to go with a translucent skeletal horse? Why, a nice monochrome gothic dominatrix ensemble, of course. Submitter Emanuelle of Sinners on Darkspear (EU-H) went to extreme lengths to coordinate her skimpy regalia and huge monster claw with her surroundings. It worked well in the undead areas, but she looked pretty awkward when she returned to the lush jungles and bright colors of Pandaria.

Around Azeroth: There's a story in your voice

Around Azeroth There's a story in your voice SATURDAY
"Our guild, Thundering Hammer Clan on Feathermoon (US-H), was recently featured on WoW Insider for the cross-realm RP event we hosted," writes submitter Jatazi. "The first ever in-game (well, that we are aware of) Kosh'harg took place on March 20, 2013. I'm submitting a few screenshots showcasing the fun had by all. It was an awesome event!" In this screenshot, a group of storytellers entertained the crowd with their tales of wonder and/or sweet pyrotechnics.

Around Azeroth: Getting your goat

Around Azeroth Getting your goat FRIDAY
Just be patient, self. Soon enough the ugly green things in the garish clothing will be distracted or intoxicated enough to move away from the counter. Then we make our move. Then, at last, the goat will eat the cake. And the mug of beer. And the bag of money. And whatever else is in the vicinity. Goats aren't picky. (Thanks to submitter Kulu of Metric System on Wyrmrest Accord [US-H] for the screenshot!)

Around Azeroth: The most adorable mauling

Around Azeroth The most adorable mauling THURSDAY
Oh, sure, this picture looks all cute and funny. The silly panda bear is being tickled by the tiny dinosaur hatchlings! Look at her laugh! But what you may not remember is that these are genetically modified super-intelligent raptors. Which means that their mouths are filled with extraordinarily advanced bacteria. After this was taken, submitter Máyumi of Area 52 (US-H) had to spend two weeks under quarantine in a Horde field hospital receiving intravenous antibiotics just so she wouldn't spread the next Black Plague. Such pain for a simple screenshot!

Around Azeroth: Will the circle be unbroken

Around Azeroth Will the circle be unbroken WEDNESDAY
It's the Songbird! Kill it! Kill it with a shotgun! Wait, no, it's just Aranela of Dark Democracy on Durotan (US-H) showing off some of the new fight mechanics in the Roost of Ji-Kun. That's what I get for playing BioShock Infinite at three in the morning. Note to self: after midnight, only play Lego Harry Potter or something equally happy-happy-joy-joy if I ever want to fall asleep again. This is why I never finished Dead Space 2.

Around Azeroth Mynd you, mse bites Kan be pretty nasti TUESDAY
The druids are revolting! And no, it's not just the rogues losing out on the +agi leather gear that are saying that for once. Submitter Ben and his fellow moose/elk/stag/whatever druids are outraged at the Horde's unjust treatment of Alliance druids. Sure, being killed by the opposing faction is one thing, but being captured, sedated, and forced to provide rides to small orc children at Brewfest is something else entirely. So they've stolen a group of gyrocopters and set off to bomb some Horde ships. Except, as they quickly found out, hooves can't reliably operate the controls of an aircraft, and shapeshifting in midair leads to a quick and splattery death. So much for the druid rebellion.

Around Azeroth: If at first you don't succeed

Around Azeroth If at first you don't succeed MONDAY
Come see the giant mystery hole! Observe the wonders of the universe! But don't try to jump in. A young draenei lady, later identified through dental records as Korranne of Azeroth Social Society on Alterac Mountains (US-A), had trouble heeding this warning. After her first attempt ended in a fatal impact with the safety rail, she didn't even wait for her skeleton to fade away before giving it another try. But maybe the third time's the charm. She'll have to wait for her rez timer to be up before she can find out.

Around Azeroth: Object impermanence

Around Azeroth Object impermanence SUNDAY
"If you do any kind of group content, you know about line of sight pulls," writes submitter Gimmlette of Spectacular Death on Llane (US-A). "Generally, the tank bonks a mob or group of mobs on the head and runs around the corner, out of sight, to get them to come to him. Everyone else stays away and just unloads once the tank has the mobs."

"Spectacular Death decided to apply that principle to the Primal Devilsaur guarding the troll boat on the Isle of Giants. They had cleared the boat to the top and then came back down to find the dino waiting for them outside. Warriorjoe volunteered to pull the dino. What could do wrong? Joe would just stay around the corner where the dino can't get him."

"After Joe was flattened, the dino went after Reckittmama, Hyperstoic, Mtwohb and Minaithelan. Guild leader Gimmlette agreed with Joe's comment, 'We're gonna need a bigger boat.'"

Around Azeroth: Stolen moments

Around Azeroth Stolen moments SATURDAY
Submitter Anastarian of Altered Reality on Moon Guard (US-H) wanted to spend some time alone with his girlfriend. But sadly, they found every available bedroom, secluded overlook, isolated beach and coat check room in Northrend occupied. So they snuck out to the floor of Grizzlemaw for some cuddling, an activity mimicked by their pet phoenix. (Phoenixes? Phoenices? Well, it makes sense that phoenix wouldn't need a plural form.)

Around Azeroth: Thunderstruck

Around Azeroth Thunderstruck FRIDAY
"I became obsessed with capturing images of the the lightning strikes on the Isle of Thunder the other night," writes submitter Captmoocher of Borrowed Time on Bleeding Hollow (US-H). "Out of over a hundred images, only a few actually had lightning in them and then even fewer showed it's full intensity. This one was by far the best. Arcweaver Jor'guva appears to be channeling the fury of the Thunder King to rip the ground asunder." Amongst the dead trees, the smoldering remains of a thousand charred golfers bear testament to your mom's advice: always go inside during a severe thunderstorm warning.

Around Azeroth: A drive-by cursing

Around Azeroth A driveby cursing THURSDAY
Submitter Evolevort of The Dawn Watch on Wyrmrest Accord (US-A) just couldn't be bothered to deal with the hassle of dismounting to kill enemies in the Borean Tundra. That was so, like, two expansions ago! Instead, he figured out a way to shadowbolt his opponents to death without ever leaving his horse. Afterwards, he swung by Valiance Keep so he could show off his super-evil outfit to all the barmaids. Ladies, he's single!

Around Azeroth: We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms

Around Azeroth We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms WEDNESDAY
"I saw Ferdinand relaxing next to a tree today, and I thought to myself, 'He sure looks lonely,'" writes submitter Maegina of The Byrd House on Ghostlands (US-H). "I just happened to have packed a nice picnic basket, so I asked him if he would like to share my lunch. We started talking and after a few minutes poor Ferdinand started telling me his life story. It was heart-wrenching. He likes to come down to the orchard to enjoy the wildlife and to meditate in this peaceful and beautiful setting. He said that it helps him to get back in touch with his roots."

"Well, to make a long story short, it never fails that as soon as he starts to become one with the universe, someone comes along and picks a fight to the death. More times than not, it's poor Ferdinand that ends up dead. It's not Ferdinand's fault. He's just happens to be one of those rare citizens of Pandaria that everyone feels the 'glorious' need to kill."

"So the next time you wander by the The Arboretum and you see Ferdinand sitting under that tree, please be kind enough to sit and chat a little or even share your lunch with him before you kill him. It's no bull: everyone needs a friend."

Around Azeroth: Wile E. Coyote style

Around Azeroth Wile E Coyote style TUESDAY
"I was giving a guildie a ride to a Black Temple farm run when we flew over the chasm between Blade's Edge Mountains and Netherstorm," writes submitter Neffi of Reckoning on Wyrmrest Accord (US-H). "Apparently we cross-realm shifted in-between zones, and the game disconnected him, knocking him right off my saddle. While he was disconnecting, he stood there in mid-air à la Wile E. Coyote. When he managed to get logged back in a few seconds later, there was a pause -- and then he plummeted to his death, frantically bubbling the whole way down. What we took away from this is: Two person mounts + cross realm zone = bad."

Around Azeroth: She's only a bird in a gilded cage

Around Azeroth She's only a bird in a gilded cage MONDAY
Sure, everyone thinks that the battle pets are the ones in cages. But maybe it's the hunters that are in cages, man! Society's cages of conformity! Wait ... on further inspection of this picture, I guess it's the battle pets in cages. Hmm. So we're making innocent animals fight each other, then removing them from the wild and putting them in cages with a hundred other animals? The battle pet system is a lot darker than I thought. (Thanks to Anton for the screenshot!)
