Warlords of Draenor: New Blingtron (with fights to the death) and Wormhole Centrifuge

Good news for all the engineers of Azeroth today. Blingtron is going to be back in action with a whole new lot of bling in Warlords of Draenor. Jonathan LeCraft, one of the folks at Blizzard who works on professions, tweeted this yesterday.

Blingtron will also fight other nearby Blingtrons. And it won't just be a Fight Club match, it'll be a full-on Spock walking around kicking the living crap out of Kirk fight to the death match. I am Blingtron's diamond earring.

Also coming back will be the Wormhole generator, now called the Wormhole Centrifuge. This time it'll give you two options per-selection... and you'll be transported randomly to one of those two places.

WoW Archivist: An ultrasafe history of engineering

WoW Archivist explores the secrets of World of Warcraft's past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW's history? What secrets does the game still hold?

If you're an engineer, you're accustomed to the chance of failure. The state of the profession throughout WoW's ten years is a bit like a goblin device. Sometimes engineering has succeeded incredibly well. The shiniest of rewards showered down on the profession from Blizzard's workshop like Thorium Grenades of Joy. During other eras, the profession has backfired, blasting shrapnel in players' faces like so many Explosive Sheep.

No one would argue that engineering is in a pretty good place right now, especially considering the newly revealed Sky Golem. It's one of the sickest mounts in the game, it transforms, it lets you harvest herbs without dismounting -- and it's only craftable by engineers.

In the family of primary professions, engineering has always been the weird uncle. No other profession makes such a diverse and bizarre array of products. Engineers can make ranged weapons, a shield, armor of all four kinds, consumables, pets, mounts, trinkets, utility items, "enchantments," "gems," "keys," feasts (yep), fishing lures, portable crafting stations, and specialized bags. It's also the only remaining profession that is still divided into exclusive specializations: goblin and gnomish engineering.

Let's look back at the early days of the profession and how it has evolved through the last four expansions.

Blingtron bugged, is far less blingy

The blank look and glazed smile are hiding his pain. Blingtron 4000 loves to give out gifts, loves it. It's his thing, handing out Fire Spirits and steamy romance novels. He used to hand out his gift packages to you once per day, but right now, since the advent of Patch 5.1, something's gone horribly wrong for Blingtron 4000.

The little guy's bugged out, what people originally thought was a stealth change by Blizzard to make him usable only for one person on your account appears to be something far more serious, with forum posters asserting that Blingtron can only be used by one character on one account, ever. What's not clear at the time of writing is the extent of Blingtron's bug.

Was it working as intended that he only hands out one gift per account per day? Or was that just the bug manifesting itself for the first time for players? Will he be back to his blingy ways in no time, or is he only ever going to have one gift for each account per day? Blizzard's Sapperwix had just this to say:

Blingtron takes an interest in fashion in 5.1

Everyone's favorite wealthy benefactor has taken a sudden and keen interest in fashion in patch 5.1. The engineer created robot Blingtron now offers more than just a free gift pack a day -- he also has a new dialogue box. Apparently Bling doesn't care for Azeroth's finest fighting gear, and offers to dress you up in a manner that is "visually attractive to your species."

If you're up for an episode of Extreme Makeover: Blingtron Edition, simply click the option that Blingtron takes an interest in fashion in 51

says "Let's party!" Regardless of race, you'll be transformed into a human wearing a particularly snazzy suit combo with a fashionable hat. You'll also gain the buff Dressed to Kill, which doesn't really do anything but proclaim that you're now decked out and ready to rumble with whatever comes your way.

The buff lasts for one hour, and it does not last through death; if you're on the receiving end of the killing, you'll lose your snazzy duds. However, Blingtron will continue to offer the transformation buff even if you've already done his daily quest and gotten your gift for the day, so you can always get the buff back again if you lose it. If you're an engineer, this should give you a reason to use Blingtron more than once a day -- and if you don't happen to be an engineer, just keep your eyes peeled for Blingtron's glittering visage while you're out and about in Pandaria.
