Sure, we all like gold. But even the most gold hungry among us can see the problem with a bug that allowed players to accumulate trillions of in-game currency, which is exactly what happened with Diablo III's patch 1.0.8. As a result, the game's Auction House was taken down, and Blizzard is still debating what actions to take to correct the issue, but Lylirra posts on the official forums that roll backs won't be necessary.

Lylirra - Auction Houses Temporarily Offline -- Update

12:00 a.m. PDT: At this time (and after careful consideration), we've decided to not move forward with rolling back the servers. We feel that this is the best course of action given the nature of the dupe, how relatively few players used it, and the fact that its effects were fairly limited within the region. We've been able to successfully identify players who duplicated gold by using this specific bug, and are focusing on these accounts to make corrections. While this is a time-consuming and very detailed process, we believe it's the most appropriate choice given the circumstances. We know that some of you may disagree, but we feel that performing a full roll back would impact the community in an even greater way, as it would require significant downtime as well as revert the progress legitimate players have made since patch 1.0.8 was released this morning.

I know it would be a pretty big blow to lose character levels or gear acquired legitimately, so if they can go after the actual accounts that used the exploit and remove just their duplicated gold, that seems like the best option to me.

• The Strength of One's Foes: All bosses in Mogu'shan Vaults, Heart of Fear, and Terrace of the Endless Spring now have a chance to drop either a Sigil of Power or Sigil of Wisdom
• Minimum level requirement to enter and equip items found in the following dungeons via Dungeon Finder have been adjusted.
  • Gate of the Setting Sun is now available in Normal difficulty, and accessible to level 89 characters.
  • Grim Batol is now accessible at level 84, down from level 85.
  • Lost City of the Tol'vir is now accessible at level 84, down from level 85.
  • Magisters' Terrace is now accessible at level 68, down from level 70.
  • The Mechanar is now accessible at level 68, down from level 70.
• PvP Power conversion ratio to obtain 1% damage at level 90 has been changed from 265 to 400.
• To facilitate a more balanced team composition, players now need to select a role when queuing up for a Battleground or Rated Battleground.

Heirloom shields are looking good for patch 5.3, according to a tweet from Lead Systems Designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street:

Heirloom shields were amongst the things that didn't quite make the cut for patch 5.2. Blizzard Senior Community Rep Jonathan "Zarhym" Brown posted the following a little while back on the official forums by way of explanation for their absence:

Heirloom shields were originally planned to be added in patch 5.2, but, unfortunately, due to a late-breaking bug with these items which prevented them from properly scaling with level, we had to remove them. We still want to get these shields in the game and plan to do so in a future patch.

Some like it hot(fixes), and we're no different here at WoW Insider, so when the latest batch dropped we just had to share. We actually posted about one of these changes, regarding the Shado-Pan assault trinkets and their PvP use, earlier today. Let's jump straight in to this latest batch.

• Fixed an issue where it was possible to have 2 instances of Unstable Vita active during the Ra-den encounter.

• Brutal Talisman of the Shado-Pan Assault now grants a reduced bonus of 4400 to Strength, down from 8800 Strength, and the effect duration now lasts 30 seconds, up from 15 seconds when the effect is activated in PvP combat.
• Tyrannical Primal Diamond when socketed to a bind-on-equip helmet now causes the helmet to become soulbound.
• Vicious Talisman of the Shado-Pan Assault now grants a reduced bonus of 4400 to Agility, down from 8800 Agility, and the effect duration now lasts 40 seconds, up from 20 seconds when the effect is activated in PvP combat.

Bug Fixes

• Resolved an issue where Capacitive Primal Diamond's effect was not activating properly.

The Legendary meta gems, added in patch 5.2, as the reward from the latest part of Wrathion's quest chain are getting quite the reputation. Amongst others, top EU guild Method asserted that these items were key to their World First Ra-den kill, as the buff they provide to gear, particularly the proc, is so substantial.

But there's some confusion around regarding their usage. A cursory glance at the tooltip indicates that they can be socketed in any item with an ilvl of more than 504. A poster on the EU forums has asked today for explanation on why his ilvl 496 helm, which he had upgraded to ilvl 504, is still considered too low-level for the gem. Blizzard Community Manager Draztal responds as follows:

Is it intended that you aren't able to socket upgraded gear prior to 5.2 with the legendary Meta? I have a 496 helm upgraded to 504 but it still denies that it is high enough to be socketed. Some dev feedback be appreciated.

Yes, it is intended that you can't put the legendary meta gem on an upgraded 496 helm, but the developers are currently discussing how upgraded items may behave down the road.

No promises or any specifics we can share at this time, though.

What's your take on this? I suspect that it's potentially born of an issue with the way upgrades are designed. It seems odd that, while the item has the required ilvl, an error is still generated. Perhaps it's an effort on the developers' part to ensure the Legendary meta can only be equipped in gear obtained from Throne of Thunder normal mode, or last tier's heroic gear.

Ghostcrawler tweeted the following, which seems slightly contradictory to Draztal's post, but does clarify Blizzard's intent:

• Shado-Pan and The August Celestials daily quests no longer have a faction prerequisite to be Revered with the Golden Lotus.
• A Test of Valor: Reduced the amount of Valor needed for this achievement to 3000 Valor Points, down from 6000.
• Tyrannical weapons no longer have a conquest-earned prerequisite to purchase them.
• Picking up the Alliance or Horde flag while in a Rated Battleground now increases damage taken by 50% for characters in a tanking specialization, and increases damage taken by 20% for characters in a non-tanking specialization.
• Demonic Gateway cast time has been reduced to 4 seconds, down from 5 seconds, and can now be attacked and killed by enemy players. Each gateway has 100% of the summoning Warlock's health, and 100% of their resilience.
• Living Bomb's periodic damage has been increased by 121%. Its explosion damage has been reduced by 78%, but now scales with additional periodic ticks added by haste, and hits all nearby targets (up from 3).
• Shuriken Toss now deals 100% more damage in the initial ranged attack, damage is no longer doubled when used on targets farther than 10 yards away, and energy cost has been increased to 40 energy, up from 20.

Hot on the heels of yesterday's batch of hotfixes is another short and sweet edition of tweaks. Just released on the official blog, today's list primarily concerns the Throne of Thunder raid, with some incredibly welcome changes to Durumu and his baffling maze, as well as a peculiarly specific bug fix for tauren and gnome players.

• Fixed a crash that occured when Gnomes or Taurens log into the game while riding a mount over water.

In-game Browser and Support Tools in 5.3 -- Blizzard Entertainment

We're adding a feature-limited web browser to World of Warcraft that will replace the in-game support system with a direct portal to the Battle.net Support site. Our aim is to give players in-game easy access to the site's robust knowledge base and support contact system.

We've gone to great lengths to improve our website support systems and we want to offer access to all of its robust features in-game. The new browser will make it it easier to find information to help you resolve issues you're experiencing or contact our representatives if you need a little extra help.

We will test this new feature in the 5.3 public test realm (PTR), and we'd like your assistance. Adding a web browser in-game is a new venture for us, and we need you to test it by searching through the support knowledge base and pages to make sure that it holds up in various hardware and network situations. It's important to note that while we will be testing the functionality of this feature within the PTR, we are unable to process support ticket submissions.

To help test and provide feedback, copy your character and download the PTR client.

We'd appreciate your feedback and testing reports to be put into the below forum thread so we can collect and respond to any errors or issues you're seeing.

A new round of hotfixes has been released on the official site. It's a pretty short list this time around, mainly tweaking a few issues with some of the encounters in Throne of Thunder, including Ra-den, and addressing a pesky bug that has been plaguing some players working on Isle of Thunder achievements.

  • Giorgio's Caduceus of Pure Moods is no longer being awarded to Elemental and Restoration Shamans on Raid Finder difficulty or via bonus rolls.
  • Primordius
    • During the Primordius encounter, spells which dispel a single harmful effect (Sear Magic, Single Magic, or Mass Dispel) will no longer work if any of the positive effects are active on the target (Improved Synapses, Keen Eyesight, Thick Bones, Clear Mind, or Fully Mutated).
  • Ra-den
    • Fixed an issue that could prevent Ra-den from absorbing Essences of Anima/Vita as intended.
    • Engaging Ra-den now resets the cooldown on Reincarnation for Shamans.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue where some situations could cause players to not receive credit towards Pay to Slay or It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone achievement after defeating Incomplete Drakkari Colossus.

Apparently 七 煌 switched to 10 man after downing Lei Shen in 25 and that made all of Ra-Den's abilities work as it if were 10 man (except they had 25 people there fighting him) [...] The guild supposedly reported the issue to Blizzard so there isn't any actual exploiting going on, just a bug due to the different way in which 10s and 25s are handled in Asia (different lockout etc).

The hotfixes keep on coming! The latest batch are fairly minimal, but they don't make diamonds as big as bricks. They're addressing one particular bug which WoW Insider has seen mentioned several times on Twitter lately, specifically one which would strand players on a phased warship while trying to complete the quest Extended Shore Leave. Unable, it seems, to hotfix the unphasing of the warship, Blizzard's team pulled the quest for now.

And Durumu has had a bit of a change. Interestingly, it's not to the purple-on-purple issue with his maze of purple death phase, but instead it's an increase in speed for the yellow eye cone. But, most excitingly, there's a fix in place for warlocks who have completed Seek the Signal and are stuck in the wrong Black Temple phase. Rejoice, in a warlocky way!

  • Extended Shore Leave: This quest has been temporarily removed from quest rotation to address an issue with the Zandalari Warship.

  • Fixed an issue where Warlocks remained in the wrong phase at The Black Temple after completing the quest Seek the Signal.

  • Durumu the Forgotten
    • During the Light Spectrum phase, Yellow Eye's cone now moves more quickly on Raid Finder difficulty.

  • Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon now has a reduced chance to activate its effect for characters that are level 61-69 and its effect no longer activates for characters above level 69.

• Glyph of Mass Dispel: This has changed for the glyph to offer the usual "non-dispellable effect" benefit as something that you have to glyph for.. Ghostcrawler later confirmed on twitter that the cast time reduction is baked into Mass Dispel for Holy and Discipline.
• Glyph of Unleashed Lightning: Glyph of Unleashed Lightning has been replaced by Glyph of Lightning Shield, which reduces damage taken by 10%. This provides some additional mitigation for DPS shaman, and the ability to cast while moving is now baseline for elemental.
• Atonement now seems to heal for 80% of the damage dealt, down from 100%.
• There is a five-minute cooldown Void Shift for Discipline and Holy priests now, but also a new 10 minute version for Shadow Priests.

• A huge amount of pet battle additions
• New Brawler's Guild Bosses!
• More steps have been built in Dalaran Arena!

Blizzard decided to ring in the weekend with a short and sweet list of hotfixes for patch 5.2. Today's list is pretty short, with just a few class tweaks and a couple of additional adjustments to raid bosses and items. Combat rogues may want to take a look at the adjustment made to Blade Flurry, however.

  • Tier-15 Fire/Frost 4-piece set bonus should now properly increase Frostbolt's chance to activate Fingers of Frost effect.

  • Tier-15 Discipline/Holy 4-piece set bonus should summon a Golden Apparition that now heals for the correct amount and can activate Divine Aegis.

• Rogue
  • Combat
    • Blade Flurry now has a range of 8 yards, up from 5 yards, and will only hit targets that are within the Rogue's line-of-sight.

• Ji-Kun's Feed Young ability should now be slightly easier to intercept.
• To the Skies!: Fixed an issue where the Hail of Arrows debuff not being removed after defeating Beastmaster Horaki.

• Enchant Weapon - Glorious Tyranny can no longer be used on other player's weapons and will cause bind-on-equipped items to become soulbound.
• Lightning-Imbued Chalice now has a greatly increased chance to generate Infinite Power.

• The Zandalari Battlesaur consists of three sound layers (previewed in the video above): Voice actor Jon Olson, a bear, and a tiger
• There's five full time people working on WoW's sound design
• The monk's "woosh" sound was made by swinging large objects around in a circle and editing them together

We also did a big vegetable destruction recording session where we tore up ears of corn, smashed walnuts, hit cabbage, and twisted celery among other things to use for sweeteners. These sounds were used in various ambiences, Monk abilities, creature exertions, farming, doodads, spells and in many different quests.

• HearthStone is free to play.

• Statue pieces for the Crumbled Chamberlain now do not despawn when looted, which means the hours of trying to beat other players to those pesky gear icons are officially over. Rejoice!
• Because everyone loves a laser-slingin' dinosaur, Oondasta now respawns much more frequently.
• Melee, you can cease fearing the snail. Gastropods in the Throne of Thunder should now favor attackers at range.
