Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition half price at Amazon

Collector's Edition
In part of its Cyber Monday week deals, Amazon is selling the Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition for $39.99 $34.99. Not only is this half off of the usual price, it is the same price as the normal edition. This price is for the box, not the digital edition version.

The Collector's Edition includes the following
  • The Imperial Quilen mount, also included in the Digital Deluxe version
  • The Lucky Quilen Cub pet, again in the Digital Deluxe version as well
  • Behind-the-scenes Blu-ray and DVD
  • Chen Stormstout mouse pad
  • The Art of Mists of Pandaria hardback book
  • Collector's Edition Soundtrack CD
We don't know how long this sale will continue. So whether you want the physical goodies for yourself or for a gift, this price is likely to be the lowest of the season.

Update Nov 26: The price for Cyber Monday is $34.99.

How can you prepare for tonight's launch?

How can you prepare for tonight's launch
It's almost here! As your spy across the pond, I'll be keeping you up to date with how the launch rolls out, so that you can know what to expect when it launches in your timezone.

You do, of course, need to know what time it's all going down, so you're not sitting staring at your character creation screen for hours on end, cursing the absence of a monk button.
  • North and Latin American realms - 12:00 a.m. PDT, September 25
  • European realms - 12:00 a.m. CEST, September 25
  • Korean/Taiwan realms - 12:00 a.m. KST, September 27
But what can you be doing right now to get ready for Mists' launch?

Addons

Over at Addon Spotlight, we've been working hard to keep you abreast of addon updating and strategizing going into Mists. A lot of the same advice provided for 5.0.4 bears repeating for Mists, and you can check out how to get your addons ready for Mists. Mists is going to be a really interesting launch as far as your UI goes, given that there's no server shutdown and no logging on or off. Either it's all going to go beautifully, or it's all going to go horribly wrong! Make sure you have a UI setup with no addons that is playable on whatever character you're starting with.

3 pleasant patch 5.0.4 login surprises

Two Patch 504 surprises!
When I logged in to the servers this morning, I was greeted by three very pleasant surprises! The first thing I noticed was that hardly any of my addons were broken, and I seem to have successfully anticipated those that were, avoiding the usual patch palaver of updating and deleting and fixing.

Then I realized I had mail, headed over to the mailbox, and got my second surprise. Waiting for me were my two Digital Collector's Edition rewards, my Lucky Quilen Cub pet and my Imperial Quilen mount! I also got two Collectors Edition achievements just for taking the two items out of my mailbox.

My only frustration arose when I headed to another character, received the same mail with the mount and pet, put them in my bag and received an error message telling me that they couldn't be learnt as I already know them. I hope this doesn't happen with every new character, as having to delete all the default account-wide pet mail could become a tad tiresome.

My third surprise came when I logged over to another character and realized there was a button at the bottom of my character list indicating that I could create another character. Confused, I quickly counted up the characters I already had on that server and confirmed that I did already have 10. Therefore, the 11th character slot has been added with 5.0.4!

All of these surprises have brightened up my day -- and hopefully yours, too. Have you noticed any surprises in 5.0.4?

WRUP: Fox Van Allen and Michele Morrow return to The Fourth Hour

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" -- otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!

About a month ago, Michele Morrow and I teased you with the first episode of The Fourth Hour, what we hoped would be a really epic, regular video series on gaming. And indeed, we still have plans for it. It's just that life happened in a very severe and intense way over at the Morrow household, and we had to put off taping for a while. (More about that later.)

Thankfully, though, Michele has worked through the personal cataclysm, and we finally got a chance to sit down this week to tape a new episode of The Fourth Hour. It's still in editing, but we didn't want you to go without. That's why we're going to share with you our camera test that we ran as a warm-up. And if last time's outtakes were any indication, it's going to be just as good as the full episode -- if not better.

This week's bonus question: Now that the Mists of Pandaria release date has been announced, it's time to decide. Are you buying a physical copy of the game, or are you going to just grab a digital download this year?

Mists of Pandaria likely to have a Digital Deluxe version

Speculation Mists of Pandaria will have a digital deluxe version
Tipster Patrick sent us a screenshot of the above screen displaying the fact that there will be a Mists of Pandaria Digital Deluxe Edition. While this page typically is not available on the dashboard, we were able to confirm it using a provided custom link (which we are not distributing for security reasons). It is not possible to get anywhere useful after pressing the Digital Purchase button, because the game has not yet gone on sale.

While Blizzard has made no official announcement, we believe this means that a digital version of the Collector's Edition will be available containing only the digital parts of the CE. The box shown looks like the Collector's Edition box, which lends credence to this hypothesis.

We know nothing (unfortunately) about the release date, pricing, or if this will even exist. But if this is showing up on the Battle.net site, it seems likely.

[Thanks, Patrick!]

Phat Loot Phriday: Lucky Quilen Cub

Phat Loot Phriday Lucky Quilen Cub
Wandering through the isles of Pandaria, Throgg and Lolegolas are making a slow but inevitable trip toward Miranda. But for now, we'll enjoy some shock, awww, and general fun with their journey.

The druid jogged down the hill to catch up with the dyanamic duo. He stopped short when he saw the diminutive creature walking beside them. It looked like a pug or maybe a chihuahua, except for the rich mane around its head.

"Wait. What is that ... thing?" the worgen asked.

"Collector's Edition pet," Lolegolas said nonchalantly. "Isn't it fabulous? I love it."

"Since you disappeared, Spot, we needed a new puppy," Throgg answered. "This guy seemed apt. It's a quilen pup."

"It needs a shave," the druid said. "It's got a fierce neckbeard going on. A few more days of growth, and it'll be ready for Reddit."

"What's Reddit?" Throgg asked.

"It's a place that really loves beards," the druid answered. "I think the dwarves invented it."

Somewhere in the distance, trapped within her cage, Miranda shrieked something about a fourth wall. That was just fine, since the boy would have ignored her anyway.

Phat Loot Phriday brings you the scoop on some of the most ... interesting ... loot in the World of Warcraft, often viewed through the eyes of the stalwart Throgg and indelible Lolegolas. Suggest items you think we should feature by emailing mikeg@wowinsider.com.

Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition rewards revealed

Blizzard unveils Collector's Edition reward models
Around mid-June, data files from the Mists of Pandaria beta revealed that the Collector's Edition of the expansion would come packaged with both a quilen pet and a quilen mount. While we knew what we were receiving, we hadn't seen their models yet -- and today, Blizzard has changed that. Screenshots of each of them have been released on the Warcraft Facebook page.

Before you get too excited and lay down your money for a Collector's Edition based purely on these images, do note that because the game is still in beta, anything can change at any time. Only the artwork of the mount and pet have been confirmed through official channels. All other details about these rewards come from datamined sources.

If you want to check out the Lucky Quilen Cub and the Imperial Quilen, either head over to the Warcraft Facebook page or check out our gallery below.

Blog Azeroth Shared Topic: You always want what you can't have

Each week, Blog Azeroth hosts a Shared Topic for bloggers to answer on their blogs and then link to in the forum. This week, dragonray from Azerothian Life asks:
What is in game that you want, but you can't have? Is there an animal you want to tame, a critter you want to collect, a tabard that has the perfect design for a transmog set etc etc.

What is it you want, but know you can't get your hands on and have to stare at longingly whenever you log in?
I wish I had the original World of Warcraft Collector's Edition companion pets: Mini Diablo, the Zergling, and the Panda Cub. I don't have to stare at them longingly whenever I log in, because people rarely have them out. But I do have to look at the Collector's Edition box on a daily basis.

Special Diablo 3 items available for Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition buyers

Special Special Diablo 3 items available for Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition buyers
The dedicated Diablo III fans at, uh, Diablofans.com have unearthed some files for the forthcoming patch 1.0.3 that reveal a few neat in-game bonuses, presumably intended for purchasers of the Mists of Pandaria Collector's Edition:
  • A new Feat of Strength, Panda-monium, which is achieved by registering a copy of the MoP Collector's Edition.
  • A new banner sigil and accent combo featuring a panda face and some pandaren-style linework.
  • A pair of black demon wings, along with the string "SpecialGiftWingsBuff_name - Collectors Edition Buff." Unlike the banner options and the Feat of Strength, there's some speculation that this may not be a MoP CE reward, but the string at least raises that possibility.
If you're interested in extra items, you might want to consider buying the Collector's Edition. While the details haven't been announced yet, Wowhead recently found a quilen mount and pet that may be among the in-game CE bonuses.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New collector's edition pet and mount uncovered

Mists of Pandaria Beta New collector's edition pet and mount uncovered
The latest beta build for Mists of Pandaria has uncovered the name of the potential Collector's Edition pet and possible mount as well. The enterprising folks over at Wowhead dug up the latest info from the build, including a change to the placeholder MoP CE pet and MoP CE mount spells. The pet has been updated to a Lucky Quilen Cub, and the mount has been updated to an Imperial Quilen, which changes depending on your riding skill. Please note, these are still labeled as placeholders, so they may not be in the final product.

Although we haven't seen any potential models for either of these creatures, the quilen are the lion-like companions of the mogu, one of the villainous races of the new expansion. You can see what the quilen look like in the screencap above. As with just about every new creature I run into in Pandaria, I pretty much wanted to throw a saddle on this thing from the first moment I laid eyes on it, so needless to say, I'm happy with the choice.

I didn't really need any more convincing to get the Collector's Edition of Mists of Pandaria. Frankly, the soundtrack pieces I've heard plus the potential of a new art book were more than enough to snag my interest. But the possibility of both a pet and a mount have sealed the deal, so to speak.

Edit: Wowhead has now updated their post with a 3D rendition of the model for the mount. Please note, there are no textures for the mount as of yet, but you can get an idea of how the armor sits on it, anyway!

The OverAchiever: New feats of strength in Cataclysm

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, we discuss the achievements most likely to drive you crazy in Cataclysm.

"Wait a minute," you say, in your continuing quest to point out that I am one card shy of a flush. "We've already covered feats of strength."

True. But we covered the ones that are becoming feats, most likely in patch 4.0.3. Are you still waiting for the Zulian Tiger to drop? Of course you are. I can't do anything to help you with that right now, so I figured I'd add to your misery by covering all the maddening stuff you'll find in the game later.

The Queue: Yes, kittens again

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Don't like kittens? Too bad, I've got a room full of them, plus enough pictures of them to wallpaper the Taj Mahal.

Nyold asked:

I have a question about mastery system. A lot of the description says something like "each point of mastery increases the damage by an additional 2%." Does this mean each mastery RATING found in gear, or is there another conversion from mastery rating to mastery skill (kinda like how crit rating and crit percentage is)?

Mastery works like most other ratings in that there's a conversion from the points you have on gear (rating) to the effect you see on your character window (skill). The formula varies from spec to spec.
