WoW Insider announces Transmogrification Contest runners-up

Transmogrification Contest Runners up
Two weeks ago, WoW Insider began a contest challenging readers to make a transmogrification outfit centered around a single piece of gear. Since then, we've received an absolutely insane number of entries (over 400 individual outfits in total), but we could only pick three prize winners in the end.

Despite this, we thought it might be fun to show off all the contest entries. In the gallery below, you'll find the contest runners-up. These are some of the most impressive entries that for one reason or another didn't quite make the cut.

And if you'd really like to see all of the entries, we made a separate gallery for them.

Check back tomorrow to see the winners!

Transmogrification Contest: Create an outfit around a single piece of gear

Transmogrification contest Create an outfit using a single piece of gear as the theme
My favorite dress in WoW is the Arachnidian Robes. The first time I saw them was right after patch 3.0.2 had hit live servers, when achievements were added. I was storming through the front gates of Stormwind in a For the Horde raid, when I spotted a human female wearing the robes near the auction house. She must have been some sort of bank alt, because that's all she was wearing, but I was so impressed by her that I stopped to inspect her amid the battle.

I eventually tracked down the dress for myself four or five months later, but once I had it, I really had no idea what to do with it. It was pretty enough on its own to be a stand-alone outfit, and years before transmogrification, there was no compelling reason to try and match it to anything -- at least until recently, when my boyfriend followed up on a promise to take me to Serpentshrine Cavern. I had never seen the place and wanted an escort who had raided it when it was still new. While we were there, I picked up a pretty little tanking mace called Mallet of the Tides, which just so happened to match the Arachnidian Robes perfectly. Thus, a transmog outfit was born.

With that as my introduction, I decided I'd do something a bit different for this week's transmog column. Just as I did, I now want you to create a transmogrification outfit of your own that builds on or complements a single piece of gear (armor or weapon) that you like. Submit your outfit by Aug. 20 at 11:59 p.m. EDT and you'll have the chance to win fabulous prizes and have your outfit featured here on WoW Insider. More details after the jump.

Mega Bloks wants fans to channel their inner Thrall

Mega Bloks has a well-known partnership with Blizzard to produce buildable block sets based on the Warcraft and StarCraft franchises. It kicked off this relationship at BlizzCon with a life-size Thrall statue made out of Mega Bloks, allowing fans to pose with the blocky former Warchief of the Horde. Now, Mega Bloks is asking fans to "channel their inner Thrall" for a chance to win a life-size Doomhammer made out of Mega Bloks. You can enter right now by submitting a photo with one (or more, ostensibly) of the following conditions:
  • Pose like Thrall (Stand proud, warrior!)
  • Pose as Thrall (cosplay)
  • Pose with Thrall (BlizzCon statue, figure, etc.)
Then ask your friends, guildies and coworkers to vote for your photo when it appears on the contest page. You can also vote for your favorite one (mine is, of course, our good friend Orkchop's) while you're there. The contest ends in a week, though, so you should probably enter it soon if you want to get your hands on that Doomhammer!

15 Minutes of Fame: Summer Games heat up summer fun and fall recruiting

From Hollywood celebrities to the guy next door, millions of people have made World of Warcraft a part of their lives. How do you play WoW? We're giving each approach its own 15 Minutes of Fame.

Work warning: Guild chatter and text in these videos contain the occasional snippet of strong language.

Summer break tugging your raiding schedule to shreds? Instead of stressing out about it, maybe it's time to shine your organizational mojo on something a little more fun: a Summer Games event. Time and Tide of Earthen Ring (EU) has done just that, building a weekend of off-season fun and games spanning multiple guilds and even both factions. This may not be the first time we've featured articles about trivia contests, funny challenges and even other special events centering on games before -- but I'm not sure we've ever seen anything as well-planned as these Summer Games.

Not content to simply entertain its own, Time and Tide opened the event realm-wide this year in a savvy recruiting move that undoubtedly raised their guild's profile and sparked plenty of interest from other players. You'll want to read our interview with GM and Summer Games organizer Firelash, if for no other reason than to snag some sweet ideas for a morale-boosting, team-bonding, raider-recruiting event of your own!

Letter from the Editor: Of contests, comments and columnists

Hello. Your friendly neighborhood editor-in-chief here to fill you in on what is happening on various parts of WoW Insider. We get a lot of emails on our tip line, and often they are asking the same question: Where's Mankrik's wife? No, I kid. Kind of. Instead of spam answering those emails every day or cluttering up The Queue, I thought I'd clear up a few things by using the magic of posting on the site.

Contests

Notification emails to the 12 Days of Winter Veil winners are still going out, and if we don't hear back, we have to pick new ones and start the process over again. With over 100 prizes given away last month, it's taking some time. We will be posting the names of the winners when all those winners have been confirmed.

Commenting and profile system

We have have received quite a few complaints about readers not being able to comment or change their profile password, etc. Unfortunately, the current commenting system has some well-known, long-standing bugs. The good news is that we will be migrating to an entirely new commenting system soon and that will solve many of those problems. Your current profile information will be transferred over into the new system. We will post new information when we get closer to that transition.
