Breakfast Topic: Do you collect non-combat armor?

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.

Gear is a fixture in the World of Warcraft. Your gear plays a huge role in determining your character's combat abilities -- arguably even more than your level -- and high-level gear is often seen as a mark of skill, or at least experience. But there's a lot more than top-tier gear in Blizzard's data banks. Aside from older armor sets, the game is filled with wedding dresses, bloody aprons, monocles, tiaras, rolling pins, fairy wands, and chainmail bikinis. And who could forget the hodgepodge of Outland greens?

The first piece of gear I ever saved in WoW was the Everglow Lantern. I kept it in my bank long after my baby druid outgrew its +3 spirit, just because I liked the way it looked. Then I started keeping odd pieces of neat-looking gear I came across, eventually dressing up my bank alt in the classic Tuxedo set and Diamond-Tipped Cane. Recently, I've graduated to collecting tier 1 while I work on my Hydraxian Waterlords reputation. It's not good for my bank space, but it sure is fun to complete an eight-piece set.

Do you collect old gear or dress-up gear for your characters? Do you ever wear the gear you collect, for roleplaying or screenshots or just around town? What's your favorite distinctive gear item in World of Warcraft?

BlizzCon 2010: Costumes and crowds

WoW Insider has been working the lines this morning and was able to chat with Hogger, Jaina Proudmoore and so many of our favorite WoW characters at BlizzCon 2010. We'll be updating the gallery as we get more pictures. The first few are just from the line before the opening ceremonies. More crazy great costumes and the people behind them as the event continues!

BlizzCon 2010 is upon us! WoW Insider has all the latest news and information. We're bringing you liveblogging of the WoW panels, interviews with WoW celebrities and attendees and of course, lots of pictures of people in costumes. It's all here at WoW Insider!

Send us your Halloween costumes!

Dressing up like something WoW-related for Halloween this year? Take a picture and send it to our tips line, because we'd love to see it! Whether you nabbed one of Blizzard's official costumes, worked a long time on a Tauren costume, or are just gluing some ears on and calling yourself a Night Elf, we'd love to take a look at what you're dressing up as, and we're sure our readers do, too. We'll collect all the pictures together and post them tomorrow, so we can check out what WoW fans are pretending to be this Halloween.

And if you need some inspiration, here's all of our costume galleries from the past two BlizzCons and the results of last year's ingame contest. Sure, you probably can't beat that girl on the turtle (or can you?), but as the couple and their adorable baby Murloc above show (they're from Blizzard's official gallery from last year), even a little bit of costume goes a long way.

Last day for the Hallow's End ingame costume contest!

Just a reminder that we are in the final stretch of our Hallow's End costume contest-- the entry period ends at 6pm EST this evening, so if you have screenshots of ingame costumes to send, get them in to right now!

Don't forget, too, that we're giving away a whole trick-or-treat bag of prizes from the very crafty Mana Princess-- she's sending along ribbons, key chains, and a few different varieties of Hearthstones to our chosen winner. And just for fun, we're also tossing in a t-shirt and a 60 day game card. You know the rules by now-- must be a US resident and 18 years of age or older to enter. If the shoe fits, send a jpg of your ingame costume (can be of anyone, in WoW or real life) to, and make sure to include your name, age, email, and street address, so we know where to send the prizes to!

And even if you don't enter, stay tuned-- we'll have the winner and all the best entrants coming up on the site next week, in an ingame costume parade of our own. Should be fun!
