Shifting Perspectives: Soloing Naxxramas for feral druids in the 4.3 era

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat, bear, restoration and balance druids. Welcome to our feral cat edition, brought to you by Chase Hasbrouck, aka Alaron of The Fluid Druid blog. This week, the editors refuse to let me write the column in Elcor.

Let's face it: Mists of Pandaria isn't going to be released any time soon, and Dragon Soul is starting to become Draggin' Soul, for those of who you starting raiding it on the release of patch 4.3. Of course, many of us are off saving the galaxy from annihilation, but if you're staying in Azeroth, you need something to do -- a new challenge. This week, I'm resurrecting my old series on druid soloing. A new tier of gear has made possible many feats that were not before, so pack your bags. We're heading back to Northrend to fight the undead ... since they cannot die. (/sunglasses)

Before we start, however, a quick refresher for those who missed the earlier series. Druids are one of the best raid soloing classes in the game for one simple reason: Prowl. While we don't have the solo survivability of a blood DK or the DPS of a hunter, we can skip the annoying trash most of the time. If you're doing a full clear, that isn't much help -- but in most cases, you can get in, kill the boss, and get out without ever having to wait to kill a trash mob.

In terms of strategy, I use this bearcat talent spec and glyphs. The primary source of your survivability will come from Leader of the Pack heals and Savage Defense shields, using Barkskin and Survival Instincts on cooldown, and popping Frenzied Regeneration as your oh-crap full heal. For some fights, you'll also be mixing in Rejuvenation, Lifebloom, and Predator's Swiftness-procced Healing Touches. For your rotation, you'll be using the default bear priority list (FF once, Demo Roar, Mangle, Thrash, Lacerate to three, Pulverize). For trivial bosses, feel free to go Cat part-time or full-time to speed things up. Finally, note that my ilevel was about 390 when I did these bosses, so this may be a bit easier or harder depending on what you're packing. (Also, credit where it's due to Reesi for helping me nail down bear details and Braindwen for his soloing guide.)

Shifting Perspectives: Bear and tree druid Q&A

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat, bear, restoration and balance druids. This week, we rummage through our email.

This column was originally going to be a thorough review of the new Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman experience for bears and trees, but I ran into a few issues when most of my groups caused me to consider leaving the planet. Personally, I still hope for a PTR PuG that doesn't explode in a firestorm of threats and recrimination after the tank eats an entirely avoidable 120,000 damage spike to the face after ignoring instructions on clicking cauldrons that give huge buffs to damage avoidance and didn't I mention the cauldrons at the start of the run while we were buffing because I'm pretty sure I did and here comes Mr. Ragequit.

Honestly, I don't know where I find these people, if they are people. For all I know, the vast majority of characters pugging the "new" Rise of the Zandalari heroics on the PTR are disaffected bots still angry over the loss of so many brothers and sisters on the live realms, but I'd like to think that a collection of scripts and macros would have more pride in the quality of its work.

Oh well. With luck, I'll have a few more successful groups to add to an article next week -- but in the meantime, we have a few reader questions to answer.

Shifting Perspectives: Revenge of the Karapalooza

Every week, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week, we invade the menagerie, shut down the demon factory, defang the beaten dog, carefully avoid Netherspite, play some chess, and face not only Malchezaar but the legions he commands.

Greetings, druids. This week we'll finish our look at stomping Kara from Curator through Prince. If you're looking for our first installment (covering Attumen through Nightbane), you'll find that here.

Curator

For most people, the Curator was the source of the first tier piece they ever got in Burning Crusade as he drops the tier 4 glove token. Note that the Defender tokens in tier 4 and 5 went to warriors, druids, and priests, which forced BC's more popular tanking and healing classes (in addition to the new legion of shadow priests that every raid wanted) to gear at each others' expense. It wasn't until tier 6 that Blizzard went for more sensible class combinations, splitting most tanking/healing classes to different tokens.

Shifting Perspectives: Karapalooza 2010

Every week, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week, after saving the world, we end it for others. They were in our way.

Every so often I get the hankering to go stomp a place that previously rode my ass like Zorro, and I nominate Karazhan as being among the better places to do it. After wiping to heroic Icecrown bosses for a few hours, there's something wonderfully therapeutic about venting your frustrations on the tenants of an older raid, particularly when they cough up 1,000 gold, mounts, enchants, and gear that looks delightfully silly on a level 80.

You remember Kara, right? It's that place that used to be hard.

Doesn't narrow it down? It's the big building occupied by crazy dead people.

Also doesn't narrow it down?

Harumph. The place with the long hallway full of undead concubines?

I see that jogged your memory.
