WoW Moviewatch: Farinar Presents: Oswald's Amazing Story of EVIL!

This is another entry into Alienware's Rise to Power contest. Farinar Presents: Oswald's Amazing Story of EVIL! is the story of a squirrel in Elwynn Forest who is tired of the abuse he receives from passing adventurers. After seeing a campaign poster for the king of Stormwind, the squirrel decides to take steps to defend itself in the future.

This video was hilarious to me, and is the first comedy entry we've seen in the Rise to Power contest. Farinar did some amazing stuff with this video. One moment in particular stuck out to me. When the squirrel lights the fuse on his rocket ship, you'll notice the action is entirely implied by the scene framing. You obviously don't see the squirrel holding the match, just the tip touching the fuse. This kind of clever framing is one of the ways skilled machinimators like Farinar manage to make their videos have so much action, even while working within the limitations of WoW's models.

My only sad moment during the video is when the squirrel becomes a cybernetic killing machine. I was really looking for a Dath Vader moment when it screams, "Noooooooo!" I guess it makes sense that didn't happen, but I still would have giggled like a madman.

WoW Moviewatch: The Achiever 3 - Going Down!

Origano
is back with the third installment of The Achiever. This episode features similar Achievement-fetching exploits as the first two, but it's definitely starting to come up a notch. As a nice bit of continuity, the new installment is voice-acted by Farinar, who you might recall from Dr. McNab Destroys Halloween yesterday. The Achiever 3 - Going Down! also enjoys a guest appearance by Whowho, one of the bloggers over at the Myndflame site.

I think Origano is getting better and better. He's resolved the challenges he had with a muddled soundtrack, and all the dialogue is crisp, clear, and easily understood. I also think the humor is stronger than before, especially now that he's grown the plot with a rival gameshow.

The Achiever 3 - Going Down is definitely the strongest episode of the series, and my hat's off to Origano. He also gets props for not succumbing to the natural double-entendre from the achievement title, which has probably got to be the most linked Achievement in WoW's Trade Chat.

WoW Moviewatch: The Peasant: Cost of Freedom

I feel like I say this every time I post a trailer, but I guess I'll say it again. I'm often nervous about featuring machinima trailers, because while the trailer can be super-duper Sylar-as-Spock-level awesome, it seems like half the time, the trailer never materializes into a movie. However, sometimes trailers look so cool that I can't help but point them out anyway. Farinar Films has a pretty solid reputation for delivery, though, so take a second to check out The Peasant: Cost of Freedom.

The video looks absolutely gorgeous, and I can't wait to see the final production. Farinar's promising a dramatic, character-driven story, without any of the usual Action/Adventure tropes. It's supposedly much more focused on its protagonists' inner conflicts, which promises to make "The Peasant" much more interesting than standard fare.
