Cataclysm beta guild contest winners contacted

Blizzard has chosen 500 winners of its Cataclysm Beta Guild Contest, and the winners have been notified via email. For the beta contest, guild leaders had to submit a 250-word essay explaining why their guild was deserving of an invite into the Cataclysm beta. The winners receive 10 Cataclysm beta invites -- one for the guild leader and nine for guild members of the guild leader's choice.

As with anything involving beta, this is also a prime time for phishing emails trying to steal your account info. If you received an email about winning the beta guild contest, here is what to look for to determine if it is legitimate:
  • The legitimate email contains no links. You just reply to the email with the information requested.
  • The legitimate email will ask for the full names and Battle.net email addresses of yourself and your nine guild member selections.
  • You will not be asked for any password information.
The contest rules originally stated that 100 winners would be chosen for each of the five weeks of the contest, so it seems as though they've decided to invite them all at once. Note that the contest period is now over -- you are no longer able to enter the contest.

Cataclysm beta guild contest

Want to get into the beta and don't know how? Well, here's a chance for you and nine of your guild members to make it in. Blizzard is asking for players to send in a short essay on why their guild should be accepted into the beta and what they'll do to push the new Cataclysm systems to the brink. You'll be able to play with and give feedback on the new guild leveling system, updated professions, the new archaeology system and even run the worgen and goblin starting zones.

They'll be picking 100 contestants each week over the course of five weeks. Check the contest rules and then send your essay to blizzardcontest@blizzard.com to enter.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm, you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From goblins and worgens to mastery and guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.

Enter October's Guild of the Month contest

A new month, a new contest. Welcome, ladies and gents, to WoW.com's Guild of the Month contest for October. We will be announcing our winners for September soon, and it's time to begin things anew. If you've been reading WoW.com for awhile, you already know how this goes. If not, allow me to explain.

If you think your guild is the best in the World of Warcraft, you might have a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from SwagDog where you can pick up custom guild apparel for you and members of your guild.

What do you need to do to enter? It's simple: You nominate your guild by sending us a short (no longer than 200 words) summary of why you think your guild is the best out there. Tell us why you think your guild is so unique! What sort of guild are you? What do you do together? What sets you apart from all of the other guilds out there? If you entered last month, no problem! Your guild can't win again if you've won previously, but if you haven't won yet in previous months, feel free to enter this month's contest.

Please send all submissions to contests@wow.com! At the end of the month, we'll pick a winner from those entries and profile them here on the site. Keep in mind, that means if you like your obscurity and don't want to be profiled, you might not want to enter.

You must be 18+ to win, and the contest is open to both US and non-Quebecois Canadian readers. Please submit your entry with an email address you check regularly, as we'll be contacting you via email if you win. All entries must be submitted by October 31st or they will be disqualified.
