March's Guild of the Month: Spectacular Death

Yes, that says March and not May. We'll be announcing April's winner soon, but first let's (finally) congratulate Spectacular Death for being March's Guild of the Month. They won a $100 gift code from SwagDog (which they have already received and spent). Gimmlette, their guild leader, tells us about Spectacular Death in her own words:

Our guild portrait [above] says it all. People are wearing a wide variety of tabards which represent all the events we've participated in; achievements we've helped each other with; factions we're exalted with. We've gone everywhere and done most everything. We have every race and class.

Congratulations to The Earthbound, February's WoW Insider Guild of the Month! Here is an excerpt from the winning entry from Genk, the guild founder:

When someone joins The Earthbound (US-Dragonmaw), they're welcomed with a cry of "blu nu!" For those who were invited by friends to the guild, this is the point where they find out that we're not like other guilds.

More details about The Earthbound, in Genk's words, are after the break.

WoW Insider's Guild of the Month contest returns

Is your guild the best in World of Warcraft? In 2009, we ran a monthly contest rewarding the best guilds in Azeroth. This month we begin again, with a contest sponsored by SwagDog. We are giving the winner a $100 gift certificate to use toward custom guild apparel for his or her guildies. We'll also profile the winning guild here on WoW Insider. Here's how to enter:
  • Email 200 words or less describing why your guild deserves to win Guild of the Month to contests@wowinsider.com.
  • Send it from an email you check often.
  • Include your guild's name and server.
  • Enter by 11:59 p.m. ET Feb. 8, 2011.
We wish that everyone were eligible to enter, but the rules of wherever you live greatly limit what we can do. It's not you. It's not us. It's your government. So in order to enter, you must:
  • be 18 years or older
  • live in the United States or non-Québécois Canada
Full rules for the contest are listed here.

How is your guild different from other guilds? What do you think your guild's greatest accomplishments are? What kind of things does your guild do together? For hints as to what we are looking for, browse through our previous winners. If you've entered before, you can enter again, as long as you didn't win.

So email your entry telling us why your guild is the best for a chance to win some cool stuff from SwagDog.

Sleeper Cartel wins November's Guild of the Month

We're finally good and ready to announce the winner of last month's Guild of the Month contest, and as you probably saw in the headline above, Sleeper Cartel of the Perenolde server is walking away with the prize: A $100 gift code from SwagDog. This is a guild that almost needs no introduction, considering they've made previous appearances here on WoW.com. I'll let Sleeper Cartel do the talking behind the cut below.

Before that, I want to remind everyone that December's Guild of the Month contest is still ongoing, and you still have time to enter. Make sure you check out the original posting, as well as the official rules. If you've entered previously and weren't chosen, don't get discouraged. Competition is fierce and ever changing.

Take it away, Sleeper Cartel!

Enter December's Guild of the Month contest

Ah, lovely December! One of my favorite months out of the year. I'm one of those freakish people that love snow, so a Wisconsin December is right up my alley. We're not here to talk about the weather, though. We're here to talk about swag. $100 worth of swag from Swagdog, no less. Let me explain how this works.

If you think your guild is the best in the World of Warcraft, you might have a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from SwagDog where you can pick up custom guild apparel for you and members of your guild.

What do you need to do to enter? It's simple: You nominate your guild by sending us a short (no longer than 200 words) summary of why you think your guild is the best out there. Tell us why you think your guild is so unique! What sort of guild are you? What do you do together? What sets you apart from all of the other guilds out there? If you entered last month, no problem! Your guild can't win again if you've won previously, but if you haven't won yet in previous months, feel free to enter this month's contest.

Please send all submissions to contests@wow.com! At the end of the month, we'll pick a winner from those entries and profile them here on the site. Keep in mind, that means if you like your obscurity and don't want to be profiled, you might not want to enter.

You must be 18+ to win, and the contest is open to both US and non-Quebecois Canadian readers. Please submit your entry with an email address you check regularly, as we'll be contacting you via email if you win. All entries must be submitted by December 31st or they will be disqualified. For the full official rules, click here!

The Stonewall Family is October's Guild of the Month

Our November Guild of the Month contest is still ongoing, but today is the day we unveil October's winner. But before I do that, I want to tell all of the entrants that you shouldn't get discouraged. We get a lot of great entries every month, and if you didn't win in October, enter for November! If you don't win in November, stay vigilant and enter in December. This contest isn't going away.

October's winner, The Stonewall Family, is walking away with a $100 gift certificate from Swagdog, where you can pick up all sorts of custom guild apparel. Rather than trying to tell you about them myself, I'll leave it up to the guild to do it. Who knows them better?

Armed Forces is September's Guild of the Month

October's Guild of the Month contest is still in progress, but right now it's time to announce our September winner. September's Guild of the Month is Armed Forces, a guild composed of United States military personnel stationed overseas, and they'll be walking away with a $100 SwagDog gift certificate. After being selected as our winner, Armed Forces was given the opportunity to write something about their guild that's a little more robust than the 200 word maximum contest entry. So rather than trying to tell you about them myself, I'll hand the reigns over to someone far more capable: A member of the guild.

Origins

Armed Forces was an idea that myself (Drahk) and our guild leader (Xertraz) had been toying with for a while. We are a collective group of members of the US Military, contractors and civilians stationed overseas. We had both been stationed overseas a few times before and the inability to raid with your guild because of the time differences has always been a huge problem. After discussing the issue we decided to take matters into our own hands and create a place that people like ourselves would have a home to come to that had like-minded people and raid times that suited them. Also, with the new ability to switch factions, it has made it even easier for people join up. So Armed Forces was born. In the beginning it was just a small group of Hordies on a small military base in England. But as word spread to other bases on the island we were able to recruit more into the fold. Before long we were able to recruit people stationed in mainland Europe as well. As people began to ship out to other over seas assignments they took on the challenge of recruiting people stationed in other countries.

WoW.com TCG Loot Giveaway: Sandbox Tiger and the Flag of Ownership

Alright, step right up, you lucky sons of motherless ogres. The powers that be over here at WoW.com have decided to bequeath upon a fortunate pair of readers more World of Warcraft TCG loot codes drawn from our bottomless, magical repository of gold and epic items (actually, they were given to us by those folks from WoWTCGLoot.com, which is kind of like the same thing). For today's swag, we're giving away one cute little Sandbox Tiger and my favorite loot item, The Flag of Ownership.

Unfortunately, I can't steal the code for the Flag of Ownership for myself, which is what I would totally do if it wasn't sealed in a super-secret, rune-encrypted, glyph-reinforced, enchanted Titansteel vault guarded by Matthew Rossi's reanimated chest fuzz. Heck, it could be in a box made out of tissue paper and I still wouldn't be able to get at it. Every one of Rossi's chest hairs is as rabid as a Tarrasque hopped on Red Bull. And those are just the ones that have been shaved off! You folks, on the other hand, simply have to leave a comment below for the chance to receive the code from the comfort and relative safety of your own home. I say relative because we've been instructed to send Rossi-hair ninjas to off anybody who leaves more than one comment.

Oh, and don't forget that you only have until Wednesday, 11:59pm EDT to chime in before we lock this thread and swizzle out the winner. If those loot cards don't tickle your fancy, something's wrong with you you can submit an entry for our Guild of the Month contest or vie to snag one of Creative's fancy new wireless headsets. One or the other, you choose. Because let's face it, everybody loves free stuff.

WoW.com TCG Loot Giveaway: Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits and Slashdance

Since we're in the middle of a pretty lazy Sunday here at the Wow.com secret world headquarters, we decided it might be cool to reach into the old prize box and pull out a few goodies for all you evening browsers of WoW news and information. In particular, we're going to be handing out a few TCG loot codes courtesy of our good friends at Upper Deck.

For starters, let's throw out two codes for some Slashdance grenades, which will make everyone in the blast radius break out into dance. Pretending you are the Music Meister optional. We'll also give away an old but goodie - a code for 50 Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits, which will make the targeted vanity pet grow. Use it on your Teldrassil Sproutling and pretend you have a pocket druid healer (actual healing ability not included).

Leave a comment below before 2:00 am EDT, and we'll pick a few of you at random to get these codes. It'll give us something to do while we wait for more submissions for our October Guild of the Month contest.
