Breakfast Topic: Home is where the hearthstone is

As you level up, your hearthstone is most likely set to whichever area is nearest the quests you're working on. But when you hit level 90, just where does your hearthstone send you? You might set it to a location nearest the dailies you've been doing on or simply put it somewhere that's convenient to portals, like your faction's Shrine in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

But not everyone makes their hearthstone decisions with practicality in mind. For some, certain places in the game just feel like home. Or maybe you don't care for the crowds or layout of the terribly utilitarian Shrine. So today, tell us: where's your hearthstone set? And, then, what's your reasoning behind that particular location?

Breakfast Topic Where is your hearthstone set
I like my characters to feel at home when I log out at night. After so many years playing WoW, some places just feel more comfortable than others. Certain bankers, certain auctioneers -- some faces and places just seem friendlier to me. It might seem archaic to someone else, but my solo types and lowbies prefer to curl up safely at night in the steamy, insular embrace of Ironforge. My Horde lowbies live in Undercity. It's not the most efficient place to live, but somehow it feels most like a real city to me, most like a home. (Despite the undead. No, I don't really get it, either.) Some characters even prefer to trot about in Dalaran.

Even so, I'm not immune to the demands of each expansion, even if it only manages to nudge the group-oriented, high-level characters to the new territories. But when you're trying to get on with the business of a new continent, you can't be slumming around with a bunch of dwarves, can you? Most of all, you need profession vendors and trainers, reforgers, challenge mode vendors and faction quartermasters, banking and void storage -- and an auction house. Especially an auction house.

Where are you hearthing your high-level characters in Mists of Pandaria? Does your character go to sleep in the old world or the new? What about business -- where do prefer to conduct your daily chores? Are you settling down in fresh, new quarters in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, or can we find you bustling about in your same old spot in Stormwind or Orgrimmar?

Traveling in patch 3.1

Patch 3.1 will be changing how we all get around. Travel is usually a bit of a touchy subject, but there are some huge improvements on the way.

If you love Kirin'Tor bling, you'll be happy to note that their transportation rings are getting an upgrade. Should you purchase one, you get a free teleport to Dalaran once every hour.

The Hearthstone that you've carried with you since you day one, unless you deleted it and had to bribe an Innkeeper for a new one, is changing radically. The cooldown is being reduced from one hour to half an hour. This was done partially to appease the whining over nerf to ghetto hearthing.

Ghetto Hearthing is/was the process of dropping your group while in a dungeon and waiting one minute for a free hearth, provided your hearthstone was on a cooldown. In 3.1, you will no longer be able to do this. Fortunately, you can still use the method to get yourself out of a dungeon.

Ghetto hearthing will be less of a hearth and more of a shifting of your virtual person to the nearest graveyard, alive and well. This will stop people from doing things like entering Ragefire Chasm while grouped, dropping, and getting a free hearth.

No more ghetto-hearthing in patch 3.1

Looks like ghetto-hearthing is going the way of wall-jumping once patch 3.1 hits. No longer will we be able to hearth out of an instance, hop through the Dalaran portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar, then be back in Northrend again in time for the next instance. From now on, we're gonna have to take the boat just like Blizz always wanted us to.

For those who are unfamiliar, ghetto-hearthing (or ninja-hearthing) is when a player joins a group, enters an instance, and then leaves the group again. Up until now, doing so would cause the player to be teleported to their hearthstone location after 60 seconds -- even if their hearthstone was on cooldown! However, as the above screenshot from the 3.1 PTR shows, it looks like that will no longer be possible.

So goodbye ghetto-hearth. It was fun while it lasted. And hey, if I'm ever in the mage district of Stormwind, and I need to get to Elwynn Forest in a jiffy, I'll look you up.

Patch 3.1 brings us Ulduar, dual specs, significant changes to all the classes, and more! We've got you covered from top to bottom with our Guide to Patch 3.1.
