Breakfast Topic: Does Hearthstone still have you in its grasp?

Quite a few of you were playing Hearthstone upon its launch -- many were playing even earlier, in Hearthstone's beta. Some played out of genuine interest, others to get their hands on the Hearthsteed. The game officially released nearly three weeks ago and I'm curious how many of you are still playing.

Personally, I love Hearthstone, but I can't find the time to fit it into my schedule. It's no secret I'm in the Heroes of the Storm technical alpha, then there's World of Warcraft and the newly released Reaper of Souls thrown into the mix. There simply aren't enough hours in the day to play every Blizzard title. Despite my love for Hearthstone, it has a low position on the totem pole. Are you still playing? Did you never play to begin with? Did you only intend to earn your Hearthsteed, but the siren call of card draws lured you in for good? If you stopped playing, why?

The Queue: Heroing up a storm

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

I got into the Heroes of the Storm technical alpha over the weekend. As you might expect, I spent most of the weekend playing it. I dig it.

Dana asked:

I am between subs at the moment. I earned the Hearthstone Steed the other night. Do I have to resub by a certain time to claim it before I loose it or will it just be waiting until I resub later? Thanks!

Should you be playing Hearthstone, if you're playing WoW?

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft officially launched last week -- but players have been enjoying the game in open beta for months. A highly interactive digital version of collectible card games, Hearthstone pits you against the computer and later, other players in battles of wits that test your ability to build cunning combos and clever gambits that have your hero ultimately come out on top. Players can build custom decks of 30 cards, and earn gold by completing quests, using the gold to purchase more cards to construct even more devastating decks. Or, if you're so inclined, you can drop cash at the shop and purchase your deck that way.

That said, it's an addictive and pretty fun game, all things considered. But if you're playing World of Warcraft, is Hearthstone something you should also be playing? From a story and lore standpoint, absolutely not -- you're not missing anything at all. There's no story built around Hearthstone, just cards and careful moves. The Warcraft tie-in refers only to the heroes chosen to represent the different class decks, nothing more. Yet at the same time, it might be worth taking a peek at the game, if you're a WoW player.

The red Hearthsteed mount isn't gone

Right now we have a cool looking blue Hearthsteed mount to ride around on after you've won three games against other random players in Hearthstone. A lot of people really like the mount, and rightly so, it's pretty badass.

But more people are asking for the red version now, a version that has only been datamined. Players incorrectly assumed that because both a blue and red version were released in the game files that one would be an Alliance mount and the other a Horde mount. This spread like wild and has entered into the collective thought process of the WoW community.

In reality the mount is just not being used yet, per Cory Stockton's tweet above. It'll probably be used at some other point -- a lot of sources are pointing at Diablo III's upcoming expansion. So just wait and see. It'll be here eventually, it's too cool not to be.

Troubleshooting your Hearthsteed woes

If you're having trouble claiming your Hearthsteed -- the game's latest mount, acquired by winning three battles in Hearthstone -- you aren't alone. Apparently plenty of players have run into issues trying to tame this wily mount, but that means Blizzard support is out in force with fixes. Over on Reddit, Customer Support rep Araxom has a suggestion:

Araxom
If you've won three games of Hearthstone in "Play" or "Arena" mode, but have not yet received the Hearthsteed mount in WoW, please try this:

Log out of the BNet App/all games > Log into the BNet App > Log into Hearthstone > Log out of Hearthstone > Log into WoW

If this doesn't help, you can head to the Reddit thread to talk to Araxom or contact support directly for more assistance. Good luck with your Hearthsteed-wrangling!

The Queue: Of hearthsteeds and hearthstones

Let's get sparkly.

michaelm517 asked:

I am a proud new owner of the Hearthsteed. It was very easy and actually enjoyable to get. I play Horde, however, and was very excited about the red Hearthsteed, only to log in and find that there was no red Hearthsteed, only the blue one. Has there been any information regarding the availability of the other color?

Get your Hearthsteed now! Hearthstone has officially released

Roughly thirty seconds after completing the first draft of our Hearthstone update from earlier today, Blizzard released the latest Hearthstone patch notes. Roughly thirty seconds after the necessary rewrites and publication, the official trailer for the much-anticipated Hearthsteed mount appeared in the wild, which you can watch above. To acquire your Hearthsteed in WoW, you must win three matches in Hearthstone. Any victories prior to the game's release don't count!

After that, Blizzard announced the game's official release, effective immediately in North America and as soon as the patch hits other regions. All told, you could say it's been a pretty big day for Hearthstone.

Latest Hearthstone updates and patch notes [Updated]

Update: Hearthstone has been released. Like, for real. Official, no-longer-beta release. That wasn't very exciting, was it?

Yesterday, Hearthstone community manager Aratil revealed a few changes to the game in advance of its official launch. To start, Tinkmaster Overspark and Nat Pagle are being rebalanced. That's one small part of today's Hearthstone patch, which includes the Hearthsteed mount for Hearthstone-playing World of Warcraft players.
  • Tinkmaster Overspark is now a 3/3 (up from 2/2) and now reads: Battlecry: Transform another random minion into a 5/5 Devilsaur or a 1/1 Squirrel. (Old Effect: Battlecry: Transform a minion into a 5/5 Devilsaur or a 1/1 Squirrel at random.)
  • Nat Pagle now reads: At the start of your turn, you have a 50% chance to draw an extra card. (Old Effect: At the end of your turn, you have a 50% chance to draw an extra card.)
If you never used Tinkmaster Overspark, the change can be a little confusing -- it almost looks like nothing changed at all. Originally, you were able to choose which target is transformed, but not whether it transforms into a Devilsaur or a Squirrel. Now you can neither choose its target nor what the target becomes. It's entirely random after this change. Nat Pagle's change means he is required to stay on the field for at least one round before he begins drawing cards for you, giving your opponent an opportunity to kill him off before you get anything at all.

This is all part of the latest patch to Hearthstone, which also includes matchmaking changes, golden heroes, alternate card backs, and more. You can find the patch notes on the Hearthstone blog and the official explanation for some of these changes below.
