Hearthstone upcoming changes

As Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft marches slowly towards its open beta stage and eventual release, further tuning is taking place. Community Manager Aratil has posted today on the Hearthstone forums about the full set of changes, and you can see that post after the break. Several outlying cards have been altered to ensure that they are not problematic, including the much beloved reviled Priest Mind Control.

What's more, there's been a cap of 100 added for gold earned via Play mode. The cap does not apply to gold earned via Arena, Questing or Achievements, but from simply winning in Play mode. Aratil asserts that this is to "combat certain methods of gold acquisition that violate our Terms of Service", implying that there could have been some exploitation taking place, potentially win-trading or similar. Hopefully they will work out a way to combat that without capping gold, as it seems like players should be able to grind out more than 100 via Play mode per day, if they wish to.

Hit the break for the full changes.

Requiem for the Defias Ringleader

hearthstone
If you've been playing a lot of competitive Hearthstone, you might have a few opinions about some of the decks. One of those decks might be the rogue deck, and you wouldn't be wrong for thinking it's at least a tad overpowered. The Hearthstone podcast Turn2 recently interviewed Hearthstone developer Eric Dodds, and he confirms that the team feels that the rogue deck is incredibly strong right now. In particular, the Defias Ringleader card is a noted culprit. If you play the Defias Ringleader in combination with another card in your deck, the Ringleader summons another minion: the Defias Bandit. Seeing as the Defias Ringleader costs only two mana to play, and playing it in conjunction with "The Coin" counts as a combo, it is possible to get both the Ringleader and its Bandit minion on your first turn of play, if you happen to be going second. This is a devastating opener and has been singled out as one of the reasons the rogue deck needs to be reined in.

On the other end of the scale, Dodds also stated that the team recognizes that priests and warriors feel a little underpowered at the moment, and they are looking into ways to improve their performance in the game. Most of it seems to come down to finding the right balance in numbers, which will hopefully be a relatively easy fix. You can listen to the entire interview on Turn2, and save a moment of silence for the Defias Ringleader whenever the updated Hearthstone build is released.

Blizzard details updates to Hearthstone

Hearthstone
Today, Blizzard has some pretty big announcements about their upcoming game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. The post is full of changes and additions that are being made to the game, many of which are based on the fan feedback so far. The biggest thing that jumps out at me right away is the fact that the game will now use gold as currency to buy new card packs. You earn gold through--get this--completing daily quests. Ha! And you thought you'd escaped those!

Other announcements include the ability to level the different class cards and the addition of a friends feature that allows you to add people to your friends list in order to battle or chat with them. There are also new card frames color-coded by class, as well as a number of updates to existing card functions and abilities. Make sure to jump on over to the Hearthstone page for the complete list! Oh, and before you ask -- no, there's still no news on when the beta will open up.
