WoW Moviewatch: If Women Ruled WoW 2

Work Warning: Cursing, mature themes, and more. Be forewarned. There's sexism and racism, intended in a critical way.

The first If Women Ruled WoW was mostly played for laughs. And while there are plenty of jokes in this sequel, the overall tone is much different. It feels a little more thoughtful to me. In the end, I couldn't quite decide where I landed on it, which I suppose is part of the point. It certainly has some star power, featuring Gigi, Lil Biz, Quixotica, Ray, and Nyhm.

Lots of gender issues line the streets of Azeroth's community. Sometimes we do a good job of things, avoiding a lot of the misogyny and hatred that stocks up other gaming cultures. Other times, we don't do such a bang-up job.

This video flips male/female and then trots out virtually every crass stereotype and lame trope we see about women in gaming. I don't know if the video serves as a successful critique or wince-worthy parody. Normally, with the cursing, I wouldn't feature the video (we're a family blog, you see), but I truly feel the video's heart was in the right place. What do you think?

Jay Mohr will return at BlizzCon 2009

Folks that paid attention to BlizzCon 2008 last year will remember the comedian Jay Mohr acting as host and funnyman. And while Blizzard has yet to announce it, has been able to independently confirm that Jay Mohr will be back for BlizzCon 2009 this year, August 21st and 22nd at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

This year's BlizzCon promises to be big. The staff is pretty much all in agreement that we'll have to hear something about the next expansion, and the recent trademark registration of Cataclysm really lends a lot of credence to that.

Of course perhaps the best part of BlizzCon is the costumes. After all, who doesn't want to see a pirate girl, two demons girls giving a kiss to a surprised kid, a turtle mount?

[Thanks to Sean Bryant for the original tip!]

BlizzCon 2009 is coming up on August 21st and 22nd! We've got all the latest news and information. At BlizzCon you can play the latest games, meet your guildmates, and ask the developers your questions. Plus, there's some great looking costumes.

The Silent Bob approach to group management

The world of groups: pugs, raids, arenas, guilds, confederations, servers; all of it means one thing: you have to know how to get along with each other. A big part of getting along with one another in a successful group is knowing how and when to get information across.

This communication is often times hard to do, even for the most seasoned communicator. How do you tell someone that their tanking is so awful you'd rather let the hunter's pet be the main tank? What do you say to a healer to get them to understand that healing means more than casting their biggest heal all the time? And what do you do with the DPS who always decides to pull for the group?

Recently I've taken up a new way to deal with all these things. I call it the Silent Bob approach to group management.

The approach is outlined by three simple steps.
