WoW Moviewatch: Chronicle of the Annoying Quest episode 31, season 2 finale

A couple of weeks ago, WoW Moviewatch highlighted a Neon Genesis Evangelion spoof from Baka Savant, the makers of Chronicle of the Annoying Quest. This past weekend marked the release of the Season Finale of CotAQ, the episode for which that opening was intended, which you can view above.

I know we have a number of fans of this series in our readership, but I have to admit, it's not exactly my favorite. The series manages to pull a few grins out of me now and then, but it's pretty much the definition of hit or miss. I laughed quite a bit at episode 30, but this one didn't really do it for me, for example.

The episodes (and the cast/actors) seem to jive best when they're breaking the fourth wall, pulling in a little bit of a random tilt to the dialogue. This episode has some of it, but it focuses much more on an attempt at a dramatic conclusion. I lol'd, but only a little.

As mentioned, this is the season finale of Chronicle of the Annoying Quest but certainly not the end of the series. The creator, Kamuraki, says we'll be seeing season 3 roll around in late spring or early summer. Keep an eye out!

WoW Moviewatch: Neon Genesis WoW

Kamuraki created this opening sequence parody for Chronicle of the Annoying Quest based off Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's called Neon Genesis WoW. As a result of its anime origins, your mileage may vary according how much you consider yourself an anime fan. Still, I don't think you have to be otaku to enjoy the sequence.

I'm a character-driven story kind of guy, so I like the emphasis the movie puts on the characters. There's hints to relationships (that may or may not exist), and all kinds of questions created from even such a simple sequence. I think it works, even if Kamuraki just meant for it to be a fun parody.
