Last Week in WoW: Garrisons, choppers, and more

Last week, we continued our glacial slide toward Warlords of Draenor, punctuated by the first real preview of the upcoming garrison system. The Azeroth Choppers webseries came to its conclusion, as did the latest season of Hearthstone.

Last Week in WoW: War Crimes

Servers saw only rolling restarts today, which meant you didn't have much time to cry into your neglected laundry. Maybe next week. We all love a good cry, right? Or was it clean laundry that we loved? I'm not sure anymore. Anyway, let's catch up on last week's news.

Last Week in WoW: The BlizzCon cometh again

BlizzCon 2014 was announced last week and Warlords of Draenor still looms on some distant, nebulous horizon, but some of the hottest bits of the last week looked backward, not forward. WoW Archivist explored some of the most curious events of Warcraft's past and Blizzard published their own Molten Core retrospective.

Last Week in WoW: Chop chop

World of Warcraft realms will be down for maintenance today beginning at 5 a.m. PDT. The current estimate for the end of maintenance is 11 a.m. PDT. In the meantime, let's look back a week, as we always do on Tuesday mornings.

Last week had its ups and downs. Which were the ups and which were the downs are entirely dependent on personal opinion. We did not yet see the Warlords of Draenor alpha open up, but we did get a new round of patch notes. Hearthstone launched for the iPad in the US and the first episode of Azeroth Choppers went live. Exciting? Yes/no?

Last Week in WoW: Warlords of Draenor cometh

After a ten thousand year drought, Warlords of Draenor rains down upon us. While the alpha is not yet accessible for anyone besides those within Blizzard itself, copious Warlords news has surfaced. We've seen patch notes, interviews, and the myriad of things datamined from the client. This has been a wild week.

Last Week in WoW: No April Fooling to be found here

Briefly, I considered using today's Last Week in WoW as the delivery mechanism for an April Fools' Joke. Rather than recapping the last week on the site, I was going to recap WoW Insider's entire existence, presenting links to everything we've ever posted in our history. This idea lasted no more than a few minutes, when the reality of the task settled in. Instead, I'll give you a few stats, which aren't jokes whatsoever. They're just interesting.

WoW Insider launched in November of 2005. Since then, we've published nearly 40,000 articles. Let's assume the average word count per article is 500 words -- it's likely more than that, given how many features we've run over the years and how much we like to talk, but let's say 500 anyway. That's 20,000,000 words. Twenty million. The average length of an adult fiction novel (not an erotic novel, but adult as opposed to young adult) is 100,000 words. Since November 2005, we've written 200 novels about World of Warcraft and Blizzard games in general.

So scrap the gag of linking you everything, because that's a Herculean task and I am no Hercules. Instead, let's stick with what happened this past week.

Last Week in WoW: The long wait

Much like last week, this week has been a long wait for any news of Warlords of Draenor. There has been plenty happening in the worlds of Diablo, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm, but all's been quiet on the Warcraft front. Still, we've had some goodies in the past 7 days. The most exciting, perhaps, is the fact that the female dwarf model's skull is no longer attempting to escape through her mouth.

Last Week in WoW: Nor any drop to drink

This past week has been big on news, but maybe not the news you want. Hearthstone officially launched. Heroes of the Storm opened its technical alpha. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is on the horizon. Warlords of Draenor is available for pre-order, the purchase of which includes an immediate level 90 character boost. However, there's no sign of a beta. Perhaps it's like a watched pot. If we keep waiting for it to boil over, it won't even simmer.

We have no server maintenance today, only rolling restarts, but let's get caught up on everything that happened last week anyway.

Last Week in WoW: Warcraft gets weird

World of Warcraft will be down for its usual maintenance period today, beginning at 3:00 a.m. Pacific until approximately 11:00 a.m. Pacific. In the meantime, why don't we catch up on some news together? The Warlords of Draenor hype train picked up speed this past week, and while we still have no ETA on a beta, we are hopefully taking slow, tiny steps in that general direction.

Last Week in WoW: The Parting Glass

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Life is full of endings and partings. For example, Love Is In the Air is over for another year, and the Mists of Pandaria expansion is pretty much over except for the Garrosh farming. Sometimes those partings are pretty sad. For example, I still don't have my Big Love Rocket. Sometimes, though, they can make way for something better. For example, Mists of Pandaria may be gone, but Warlords of Draenor is coming on fast, and we've got a lot of great news and insight about it this past week.

Downtime today is limited to a series of rolling restarts at 5 a.m. PST, but seriously, take some to read up on the Warlords of Draenor news, if nothing else. It's good stuff. We also have our usual roundup of other great news and features. Before I tell you to read on, though, let me say just one more thing, dear readers. You were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I.

Warlords of Draenor news and features
  • Check out our Warlords of Draenor guide for all the news you need in one place.
  • The new orc female model has been revealed, and the dwarf female model can be seen in 3d on the official Warlords of Draenor site.
  • Warlords of Draenor PvP will feature a spectator mode and the return of skirmishes.
  • You will need a silver medal from the Proving Grounds if you want to randomly queue for heroic dungeons in Warlords. In addition, they've hinted that Proving Grounds may be able to scale up instead of down in the future.
  • The Dread Hatchling is now appearing in the pet journal as of patch 5.4.7.
  • A recent press event has resulted in a glut of new Warlords info. Check out video of the character boost process and Alliance Shadowmoon Valley questing.

Last Week in WoW: Yet another patch edition

As I mentioned above, downtime today is scheduled for 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. PST, so you definitely have time to read up. In addition to the patch 5.4.7 news, there's plenty of patch 6.0 and Warlords of Draenor tidbits as well. Read on for the usual roundup.

Last Week in WoW: Lack of beta blues edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. I feel like we're officially in the part of the year where we're all desperate for the expansion beta, but have a sinking feeling it won't be out for at least another month or two. Soon just isn't soon enough. Luckily, we still have some choice WoD news tidbits coming out, as well as a flood of news from the patch 5.4.7 PTR.

With so much to read up on, you might want to get it to. Maintenance today is limited to rolling restarts at 5 a.m. pacific time, but you'll want to take your time absorbing this good stuff.
