Using treadmills to Race across Azeroth

The Wii Fit board was the first object to be linked to character run speed in WoW. Now, the folks at Mana Energy Potions have raised the ante -- they connected a pair of treadmills to their computers, and set about gauging just how possible it is to run like your character.

They took a couple steps to simulate the run speed. They measured the land-speed of your average WoW character. Then, they set up a pair of treadmills to tap forward on their accounts -- everytime they moved a certain treadmill distance, their keyboard would pulse "W" to move forward. They dressed up in some silly costumes to make sure their event was as realistic as possible, or maybe just to make the pictures funnier. And then... they ran from Shadowglen to Darnassus.

The results? The experience darn near killed 'em, apparantly. They tried a few other things -- drawing a sword while running, eating, and drinking. None of it went particularly well. And while they finished the run, the pair aren't looking forward to doing it again. The author describes it as "sheer brutality."

Final result: your character in WoW is in much better shape than you are. I am shocked and amazed. Still, if I had the carpentry skills to build their rig, I think I might take my Warrior out for a jog to help get in shape.

Profession News: Potion Sickness gone, Herbalists get new ability

It was perhaps one of the most unexpected and controversial changes to hit Wrath Beta: Potion Sickness, the debuff that spelled the end of chain-chugging by allowing only one potion to be quaffed per combat and no more. Some people loved, since it would cut down on pre-raid farming and perhaps allow for bosses to be balanced more around classes and roles and less around Haste, Ironshield, and Destruction potions. Some saw it as a major nerf to Alchemists and to casters who were used to chaining mana pots to stay in the blue.

WoW Insider giveaway: Manaprincess swag

Manaprincess has a new store, and to celebrate, WoW Insider is giving away some of her stuff! One lucky winner will get a Manaprincess gift pack, which consists of a Hearthstone key ring and cell phone charm, as well as one each of the Health and Mana potion pendants, as seen above. Usually, a pack like this would set you back $45 (though don't forget, from now until August 31st, you can get 25% off your order with the code "wowinsider"), but thanks to Manaprincess, we're giving one away free.

To enter, all you've got to do is put a comment on this post. You can say whatever you want, but just for fun, we'll have you answer the question: What would you use a Health or Mana potion for in real life? You can enter only once, and make sure you use a real email address, one that you check often (because we'll be emailing the winner to get the necessary info). On Friday, July 11th, at 11:59pm Eastern time, we'll close the comments and choose one commenter randomly to win the gift pack from Manaprincess, valued at $45.

As always, you've got to follow all the rules (you can click here for complete official rules) -- only people 18+ years of age and living in the US or Canada are eligible to win, and you can enter only once. Good luck!

Update: Contest is over! Check your emails to see if you're the winner.
