Getting started with pet battles in Warlords of Draenor

Though the basic battle pet system hasn't changed, if you're a pet collector heading into Warlords of Draenor you'll find plenty of new pets to collect, six new tamers to beat, daily battles at your garrison's menagerie, new achievements, and a new pet-centric currency. So where's a potential pet tamer to begin? We'll walk you through all of the pat battling Warlords has to offer.

Find and fight Draenor's pet tamers
There are six new tamers to battle in Draenor, one for every zone (excepting Tanaan and Ashran). You can fight each tamer once a day in exchange for 4 Pet Charms, which you can use to buy pet-centric gear at your garrison. In addition to fun toys like costumes and pet treats, you can buy bandages, and battle-stones. Amongst that gear, of the most interest to pet levelers will be: Marked Flawless Battle-Stones for 15 charms, Flawless Battle-Training Stones for 3 charms, and Mystery Bags which a random family battle-training stone for 2 charms.

Here's who you'll need to fight (and where you'll need to go) for your pet charms:

The OverAchiever: New achievements in patch 4.2

Every Thursday, The OverAchiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, pet biscuits make us happy ... for a little while, at least.

We're going to take another break from our Mountain O' Mounts series to examine upcoming achievements in patch 4.2. We got an avalanche of news on these last Friday via MMO-Champion's datamining efforts on PTR build 14117, and they all look pretty nifty.

There are 16 achievements associated with the new Firelands/Mount Hyjal daily quest area, on which I have very little information right now, so we're going to examine those later. However, that still leaves us with new pet, legendary, dungeon, and anniversary achievements.

Patch 4.1 PTR: New pet collecting, food, drink and tabard achievements

For players who have been collecting tabards and pets since the launch of the achievement system, there hasn't been a lot to look forward to. Once the Lil' Game Hunter achievement had been obtained, there were no additional achievements for collecting more pets. Along with a host of new pets and mounts, in patch 4.1, two new pet collecting achievements have been added: Petting Zoo, for collecting 100 pets, and Menagerie, for collecting 125 pets. As of right now, it doesn't look like any new pets will be given as rewards for these achievements, but as with all things on the PTR, that may change.

In addition to the pet collecting achievements, there is now an achievement for learning the Vial of the Sands mount, a new achievement called Cataclysmically Delicious for dining on 100 different kinds of food, and a new drinking achievement called Drown Your Sorrows for drinking 50 different types of beverages. To top it all off, there's even a new achievement for the tabard collectors out there called Thirty Tabards, which you complete upon equipping 30 unique tabards.

There are also some new achievements for Dungeons and Raids involving the new ZA and ZG 5-man dungeons, as well as new statistics trackers for the new Cataclysm raid bosses. All in all, it looks like achievement hunters will have a fair amount of new material to chase after and complete.
