WoW Moviewatch: You Tank It

Silver Letomi, one of the many people who put together truly epic WoW parody songs, has returned with this remake of Britney Spears' Toxic, transformed into an upbeat ditty about the perils of pulling ahead as a DPS. Iodine11 is to be credited for the lyrics, which are pretty great -- they're often where parody videos fall down for me. And of course, Letomi is the one doing the singing, and doing a fantastic job of it, as ever.

It is, of course, highly possible that the reason why I like this parody so much is that I've just levelled a warrior from 15-89 entirely by tanking dungeons, so have yet again been reminded how much I hate it when people pull things before me!

WoW Moviewatch: A Brief History of WoW: Mists of Pandaria 2

A Brief History of WoW: Mists of Pandaria 2 continues the story of the latest expansion, as summarized by Slightly Impressive. It's actually a pretty good summary of MoP, if you weren't able to follow the story for some reason. I was impressed by how non-partisan Griff's explanation ended up being, even if Garrosh's escape got pinned on the pandas. This is a completely fair characterization of Jaina, though, and exactly the woman we've all come to know and love.

WoW Moviewatch: What Are NPCs Thinking 4

The master of comedic commentary is back with What Are NPCs Thinking 4. It's a few minutes of hilarious interpretation of some of WoW's most iconic characters. Not the big ones like kings and war chiefs. No, this is that smug, self-satisfied snake statue or that clever auction goblin. This is probably my favorite Wowcrendor series; I don't think they get old.

I've always wondered what those ogres had in mind with their peculiar standing places. That's just not safe behavior. Ogres aren't the smarter critters in Azeroth, but you would think some basic self-preservation instinct might take over.

WoW Moviewatch: Psymetheus

Psymehteus leaves me at a loss for words. This is some of the most compelling and interesting graphics work we've seen for a while. And while the Pacific Rim style references could be tough to see, that air drop at the beginning calls it out fairly cleanly. Don't get obsessed with the story. This is about the Alliance kicking some tail (with maybe the help of a giant robot thing.)

WoW Moviewatch: Here Without You

This is the song that launched a thousand fanfics, but there's good reason for that: it's one heck of a moody song. My family is healthy and hale, and even I would sit on my porch, listening to this song, and stoically sipping harsh whiskey while letting a single, iconic tear slide own my face. That being said, Celine Meow put together a fairly solid music video around Here Without You.

It looks good. I get the story. The effects are pretty effective and the animation smooth. Visually, there's not much to complain about. That being said, I'd tackle the dialogue editing a little harder, maybe fix up the font a bit. The rest of the music video is good enough that the poor grammar, troubled spelling, and disconcerting font take away from the overall effect. This was a solid video, nonetheless, that I enjoyed seeing.

WoW Moviewatch: World of Warcraft Medley, with violin

This is a different view of yesterday's World of Warcraft Medley. This one busted out a violin for some mad string action. It's really hard to put into words how talented these folks are. It's a riveting, breathtaking medley of our game's iconic music and they captured the spirit wonderfully. So if you like it, make sure you swing by the channel and share your love.

WoW Moviewatch: World of Warcraft Medley

In a breathtaking display of musical skill and outstanding vocals, Peter Hollens knocked this World of Warcraft Medley out of the park. Even if it weren't for our incredible loyalty to Azeroth, I'm pretty sure we'd find the piece absolutely riveting.

The makeup and stark, somber expressions do a lot to buttress the epic feel of this video. While it's difficult to critique acting in this kind of performance, I feel both male and female roles were executed marvelously. Really, this whole thing was just astounding. This is a great way to start off the new year!

WoW Moviewatch: Impossible

SimTgirl used this cover of Impossible to create a music video for the song of the same name by Shontelle. The cover's performed by Maddi Jane and it has plenty of merits to recommend a listen. The machinima is decent. It's a music video featuring a singing blood elf, which some folks will love, other folks won't. The composition is pretty good and I can definitely appreciate the attempt at a frame story made up of montages. All in all, Impossible is a good music video featuring a good song, even if it doesn't necessarily break any new ground.

WoW Moviewatch: Brief History of WoW

While it's not quite a brief history of time in WoW, Slightly Impressive's tour of the most recent expansion in A Brief History of WoW. Pointing out the little giggles and cognitive dissonances of Mists, the Slightly Impressive team sums up all the moments that made us ready to move on with the story. This video pretty much sums up exactly what I'm going to remember about our panda-heavy days.

WoW Moviewatch: The Golden Cup

Nixxiom's video, The Golden Cup, is one heck of a piece. Featuring poetry written by Nixxiom, set to animated images, and narrated with a smooth, rich voice, The Golden Cup tells the story of a knight and a dragon. There's more to it than that, of course, but I don't want to spoil.

I loved this technique. While I obviously love rich, fancy animation and graphics, The Golden Cup's format helps you focus instead on the story Nixxiom is telling. It conveys that sense of epic poetry and allows you to enjoy the writing itself. Take the time to watch it; you'll like it.

WoW Moviewatch: At Home With The Hellscreams

You know what's not going to get old any time soon? A buddy comedy about Garrosh and Thrall adventuring in Elwynn Forest. This is probably one of the most hilarious videos I've ever seen. With appropriate Horde humor, Garrosh's dizzying intellect, and a wide range of mischief, Leo Tierney's At Home With The Hellscreams is just the thing to brighten your weekend. Thanks to Nixxiom for the suggestion!

WoW Moviewatch: The Aggronots

There's always a challenge involved in making a raid video. It's an awesome way to show off the skills and accomplishments of your guild, but how do you do it in an interesting, fun way? Seranna seems to have that problem well under hand, creating the The Aggronots to show off his guild's encounters with the raids of Mists of Pandaria. I like the story book format, and I'll admit: the rocking tunes in the background appealed to the long-haired metal fan in me. If nothing else, this is one fine music video.

WoW Moviewatch: The Devil's Gun: Prelude

The Devil's Gun: Prelude is the first installment of a new, narrative driven series of machinima by Kidsake. Filled with dolorous voiceover and Kidsake's powerful visual style, The Devil's Gun looks like it could be a huge breath of fresh air in recent machinima. Designed to tell a story and do some world building, we don't see videos like this very often. Kidsakes described it as a post-apocalyptic western fantasy based on a Pathfinder game he'd once run; that certainly sounds like legitimate geek cred, there. I can't wait to see where this goes.

WoW Moviewatch: The Most Dangerous Game

There's some backstory you need to know to get Pudrick's most recent video, The Most Dangerous Game. While it might seem like just a nonsensical video about dueling, it's actually a parody of a pivotal scene in The Western Ore Musical! You don't need to have seen the original to get The Most Dangerous Game, but it does help get the point across.

While I'm not sure this is Pudrick's best work, it definitely delivers the quality animation that Pudrick is known for. Make sure to check out RedLetterMedia, the source of this parody. They have some pretty darn amusing videos that could be worth your time.

WoW Moviewatch: The Spirit of Winter's Veil

Nixxiom and Moocluck challenged one another to a season-off, with each machinimator creating a special holiday video. In this one, Nixxiom tries to educate Moocluck about the true meaning of Winter's Veil. And while Moocluck struggles with understanding The Spirit of Winter's Veil, we do get the opportunity to see Grandather Winter cruise along in the finest sleigh imaginable. We now know why you shouldn't leave brandy out for Santa, but the image of that sleigh will stick in my head for the rest of my life.
