WoW Moviewatch: BLIND Fools' Day

I can never tell if you folks are pranking me or not. This weekend, I received 4 emails telling me about this hot new video. Oh well. I guess if it's just a prank on me, then perhaps it has become a prank on you. Happy April Fools' Day! Here's another run of BLIND, since you've never ever heard of it. At least it's not a rickroll, I guess.

WoW Moviewatch: Rabbit Stew

For whatever reason, there aren't many machinima videos about Easter. Rabbit Stew stands alone as a rare celebration of the Spring holiday. If you feel like following suit, don't worry: scrawling PWNT across an egg isn't that much work. Do it with a Sharpie.

WoW Moviewatch: TMNT: Tortos

It looks like Fifth Element laid low the boss known as Tortos, and they've created another astounding video to celebrate. Their machinima continues to be as amazing as ever. And while I could go on and on about how much I loved this video, I think I'll just quote Anne Stickney:
This is EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED TO SEE OUT OF A TORTOS KILL VID
Also, bonus points for the use of Vanilla Ice. Go ninja, go ninja, go!

WoW Moviewatch: Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft Sneak Preview

The Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft Sneak Preview is pretty much what you'd expect from a Wowcrendor video, though I admit I was actually expecting something a little more previewish than this. Title confusion aside, though, this is exactly what I wanted from the master of mirth, Wowcrendor: an analysis of reactions to the upcoming digital card game.

I kind of do hope we get a Standing In Fire card. It just feels right. But given the breadth of cards in the physical versions, Hearthstone will likely have plenty of options for everyone. Just be careful what you say about it now, so that those words don't come back to haunt you.

WoW Moviewatch: Enter - The Devil

Work Warning: I don't know what this genre is called. But it loud, growling, and mostly screaming. Not much cursing though, not that you can make out the words.

I'll have to do this in two parts. Video first. The music video serves the music fairly well, I guess. The animation is fine, the scenes are fine, and it's all blended together just dandy. While it drags on a little long, and I might have tried to cram in a story, the music video does its just just fine.

The music though. I literally had to Google it to be certain I wasn't getting trolled. I'm not even sure I'm not getting trolled right now. I honestly can't tell. So, I'll just say that this music isn't my cup of joe and maybe you shouldn't listen to this if you're already buzzed on caffeine.

WoW Moviewatch: Stormwind City Theme as Hip Hop

The Stormwind City Theme Hip-Hop Version brings new, hip life to the old theme. It doesn't really scream hip hop to me, though. Perhaps something like techno, or industrial. But not really. I don't know, hip hop is as fine as anything else, I guess.

While I don't think the video is particularly mindblowing, it is a decent Titantron-esque rendering to watch while you listen to the music. I would have liked to see soldiers marching, or some other martial imagery, since even the remixed version has that military cadence. Ultimately, though, the music is satisfying and worth a listen.

WoW Moviewatch: Stuff PvPers Say

I was really hoping that there would be some phrase in Stuff PvPers Say that I wasn't familiar with. Or that, maybe, I hadn't myself said. But as it turns out... yeah. Slightly Impressive got it pretty right. That's the stuff I say, and I imagine you've all said it before, also.

The problem isn't that PvPers are so predictable (although we can be), it's that battleground experience is eventually fairly universal. We're all playing on the same maps, with the same rules, doing the same thing over and over until if you see that lone tank standing on the flag one more time... you'll lose your mind. Because the cat druid is always nearby.

WoW Moviewatch: Council Comic Fifth Element

Fifth Element is back with another raid video, this time in a sort of comic book style. While it's not quite as flashy or nostalgic as earlier Fifth Element videos, it still satisfies the group's unique, cinematic flair.

There's a lot to be learned from Fifth Element's dedication to cinematic openings. Raid videos can be a tough sell to the mainstream audience, but these outrageous openings really do a good job of getting you settled in. These have been my favorite raid videos in a long, long time.

WoW Moviewatch: The Shaping of the World

The music of WoW lends a lot of drama, power, and gravitas to the game. It's easy to underestimate the incredible composition that provides flavor and emotion to each zone, expansion, and even instances. For such an integral part of the game, it doesn't get enough attention.

Plasma3Music created this remix of The Shaping of the World. This is what he had to say about it:
My orchestral remix is a more dramatic and epic version of World of Warcraft's "The Shaping Of The World". My intention was to put more energy and power into the song. The remix is accompanied by beautiful landscape shots of WoW Cataclysm.

The parts and melodies from 1:36 to 2:17 are new and composed by me.
No audio clips of the original were used. Every sound, instrument and note that you hear has been carefully programmed and mixed by me.

The end result is very effective. Take the time to listen and let Plasma know what you think.

WoW Moviewatch: The Search for Hope

It's been a little while since we've heard from Croftzi, so when I got a mail from her, I was pretty excited. This is a fairly straightforward video, but I can't tell you anything about it. You have to experience it. However, it Croftzi's word, she tried to make it "a very dramatic story." So kick back and take a couple minutes to watch The Search for Hope.

WoW Moviewatch: You Stole My Toon

Work Warning: Characters with no armor appear in this video.

Have you ever felt the pain and shame of having your character stolen, stripped naked, and left for dead? At this point in the game's history, many of us have taken that walk of shame to the GM's doorstep to ask for help.

This is a pain that Rogahar and Sharm seem to know well. You Stole My Toon features the mournful lament of a character who's lost everything. The video apparently took a very long time to create, with the last scene alone taking 50 hours to render. It's easy to see where the time went: some of the animation is downright impressive.

WoW Moviewatch: What are NPCs thinking?

Wowcrendor is known for his funny videos, which we regularly feature on Moviewatch, and this is definitely no departure from his usual comedic form! Wowcrendor takes a step away from Billy and his usual antics to take a look at the unappreciated, the unloved, the uninterested. The NPC.

The guards who nobody really pays attention to, despite their years of service. The identical orc triplets, the lonely gnomes with dubious fashion tastes, and my personal favorite, the Ramkahen guards and their over-eager swaying. I know that the best videos leave their watchers wanting more, and I definitely want to see another of these detailing the trials and tribulations of life as an NPC. What do you think they're thinking?

WoW Moviewatch: Dinosaucers: Horridon

Those mad geniuses from Fifth Element are back with Dinosaucers: Horridon. Not only do I thoroughly love all of the animation in this video, but it brought me some real validation. I'd started to worry that I was the only person who remembered my beloved Dinosaucers. Clearly, that isn't the case.

I don't know how the creator kicks these out so quickly. However he manages it, we're lucky to have him injecting some new creative blood into the scene. Now that I've said that, he'll probably wander off to pasture... but I plan on enjoying every moment until that happens.

WoW Moviewatch: Titan

Well, we don't actually have the trailer for Titan yet, whatever it might be. But Slightly Impressive's on the case. He's created his own version of the trailer long before Blizzard has. He's proactive like that. I've played this version and mostly spammed my "Make them spread out" button.

This video was pretty fun. While it was a back door into more relatively standard "raiders stand in fire" jokes, it's well translated into the idea of new game. I've turned into quite a fan of Slightly Impressive and appreciate their dogged, unrelenting creation of new videos.

WoW Moviewatch: Warrior

Work Warning: The song's a little violent, I guess. But no more than the game itself.

Warrior
is an original song by Dani, otherwise known as Starwarspunk. Every line of the song features an iconic ability of the warrior class. If I ever find myself needing to stand outside Matthew Rossi's window, wearing a trenchcoat, holding a boombox aloft over my head... this is the song that will be playing. Warrior on, Dani.
