Operation Echo Isles: Transcripts and details

WARNING: This post is chock full of spoilers. Spoilers like you would not believe. If you'd like to be surprised about anything involving the Echo Isles and what is contained within, I wouldn't recommend continuing onward. If, however, you are clamoring for more information, read on!

There is a lot of great information about upcoming world events in the current patch 3.3.3 PTR. We've already posted about some of the story inside the Ruby Sanctum as well as what is being referred to as "Operation Gnomeregan". However, the trolls have their own operation underway in trying to take back the Echo Isles from the evil hex master Zalazane. There are lots and lots of spoilers about the quest line and the story behind it. Please note that this is just an assembly of transcripts from all of the sound files put in what appears to be a proper order.

Dere be some dark voodoo inside. Do ye have what it takes?

Arcane Brilliance: Patch 3.3.3 PTR changes for mages

It's time again for Arcane Brilliance, the weekly mage column that wants to point out that while gnomes often come up...er...short...when compared to the other races, they do have one special feature that always looks larger by comparison. Their spells are huge! Wait...what did you think I was talking about?

So anyway. It's always an exciting time around here when a new patch hits the PTR. We all wake up, head down to the living room and gather beneath the tree to open our presents. Sometimes the bounty is rich, and we reap a choice harvest of new content and features. Other times the crop is more meager. And while patch 3.3.3 doesn't seem to have brought with it the largest pile of new stuff we've ever seen, it's turning out to be a bit more generous than I'd have previously suspected.

Yes, for those of us who play this game, a new patch is just like Christmas. You just never know what you're going to get. Will that gaily wrapped parcel contain an N64? Or a hideous sweater? A huge buff? Or a soul-crushing nerf? Let's all head over to the PTR together and start unwrapping, shall we?

Patch 3.3.3 PTR: What the Vitality change means for warriors

Yes, another day, another set of patch notes for the 3.3.3 PTR. At present we're looking at the following changes for warriors:
  • Revenge: Damage done by this ability (base and scaling) increased by 50%.
  • Talents
    • Fury
      • Rampage: This effect is now passive instead of being a proc from critical strikes.
    • Protection
      • Vitality: Now boosts Stamina by 3/6/9%, up from 2/4/6%. Strength and expertise benefits have not changed.
The most recent change is of course the change to Vitality, making each talent point spent in the ability that much better. Frankly, I don't know a warrior tank without it anyway, so it's basically just a straightforward 'more betterer' situation. (Yes, I did butcher that particularly horribly.) But what it basically reveals is that while you may believe one thing or another about how warriors are faring as tanks (I'm personally not particularly upset about where I am as a tank right now) the fact remains that any adjustments being made are being made in small increments. Course corrections rather than radical changes in direction, you could say.

The recent change to Devastate (that required a hotfix to fully implement) lead to the Revenge change. Similarly, the recent hotfix to Paladins Sacred Duty talent (the class had the best stamina scaling because unlike other tanks they had two talents that affected it, Sacred Duty and Combat Expertise) leads directly to this recent buff to Vitality. Even with this change, Vitality won't provide as much health as these two talents maxed, of course, but it'll bring tanks closer which is clearly a long term goal of the tanking design in Wrath of the Lich King. It remains to be seen if this talent change makes it to live... I could see the strength being buffed to match stamina as a means to add more sustained prot DPS (one of their stated goals) or the change reverted totally. That is, after all, what public test realms are for, testing things.

Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Random dungeons are being watched

If you noticed that the 3.3.3 PTR has been updated, you may have noticed that there are some interesting new statistics being tracked. Specifically, according to MMO-Champion, the following are now being tracked:
What does this mean exactly? Well, it means that at the very least Blizzard will know what you're doing in your dungeon groups with more granularity than before. How many times you start a vote kick, vote to kick, get kicked, dump a group or finish one will be tracked by character. While I'm sure this is information they have access to already, it should be easier than before for them to know if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.

I have no idea what, if anything, they intend to do with this data but I'm still interested to see what develops.

Patch 3.3.3 PTR patch notes updated

The Patch 3.3.3 PTR patch notes have just been updated to reflect today's latest PTR build. All of the changes can be found behind the cut below, and we're also in the process of integrating them into our primary Patch 3.3.3 patch notes post. (Update: All changes are now reflected in our primary patch notes posting.) Some highlights:
  • Death Knights: Icy Talons: The personal haste benefit provided by this talent is no longer exclusive with other sources of melee haste. This will allow death knights to always swing 4/6/12/16/20% faster when Frost Fever is applied. Windfury Totem and the party/raid component of Improved Icy Talons still do not stack.
  • Hunters: Ferocious Inspiration: This ability is now an aura and provides 1/2/3% damage to all party or raid members within 100 yards and boosts the damage of Steady Shot by 3/6/9%.
  • Engineering: The Pet Bombling and Lil' Smoky non-combat pets are no longer Bind-on-Pickup.

Patch 3.3.3 PTR patch notes [Updated]

The official Patch 3.3.3 patch notes have just been posted to the official site, so we're likely to see the PTR incredibly soon, if it isn't up right now. You can find the patch notes in full below. Do note, however, that this is Patch 3.3.3 and not Patch 3.3.5. This will not include the Ruby Sanctum raid dungeon.

Some highlights:
  • Death Knights: Icy Touch: This ability now causes a very high amount of threat while the death knight is in Frost Presence.
  • Many aura abilities such as Unleashed Rage, Abomination's Might, and Elemental Oath are now passive auras and do no need to be triggered by certain strikes.
  • Frozo the Renowned has moved into the Dalaran Magus Commerce Exchange and will be trading your Frozen Orbs for various other trade goods. We do not yet know what these items are, but we'll be sure to look as soon as we get on the PTR.
Look behind the break for the rest of the Patch 3.3.3 patch notes.

These patch notes are up to date as of March 10th, 2010.
