Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for March 29

There's another round of hotfixes on the way, according to a post released on the official WoW blog. Today's list is short and sweet and should please the people annoyed about exploits in Tol Barad.

  • Dungeons & Raids
    • The Bastion of Twilight
      • A bug has been fixed that could cause Flame Strike during the Ascendant Council encounter (Heroic difficulty) to target an existing fire patch, instead of creating a new one.
  • Guilds
    • The guild perk "Have Group, Will Travel" no longer allows players to summon guild mates inside dungeons, raids, Battlegrounds, or Tol Barad when the battle is in progress. It will also not function while the player is on any transport.
  • Quests & Creatures
    • Uldum
      • Hostile NPCs are no longer present at the Temple of Uldum once the cutscene from picking up "Harrison Jones and the Temple of Uldum" finishes playing.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for March 24

Another round of 4.0.6 hotfixes has been released on the official WoW blog. This time around, it's a relatively short list that focuses mainly on dungeons and raids from both the current raid tier and previous raid tiers as well:
  • In the heroic Cho'gall encounter, Fester Blood will no longer sometimes cause Cho'gall to stop consuming fire elementals.
  • In Blackwing Descent, Magmaw will no longer cast Tantrum as long as he has a target in melee range.
  • In Blackwing Lair, Razorgore does not evade when attacked immediately after being released from the orb. He should also no longer reset when the orb controller is interrupted.
Continue after the break for the full list of hotfixes.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for March 16

We've seen plenty of hotfixes for the patch 4.1 PTR, but it's been awhile since we've seen any hotfixes for patch 4.0.6. A new round of 4.0.6 hotfixes was released on the official WoW blog, with plenty of fixes to Blackwing Descent, including the following:
  • Atramedes will no longer sometimes snap back to his starting location as he finishes casting Sonic Breath.
  • Maloriak's Scorching Breath should no longer incorrectly share its damage among pets. To offset what would be increased damage per player as a result of this fix, the damage dealt by the ability has been reduced on heroic difficulty.
  • The Omnotron Defense System encounter has had its health reduced by 15% on heroic difficulty, and the damage of Incineration Security Measure has been reduced.
Follow after the break for the full list of hotfixes.

Spiritual Guidance: Understanding the recent priest changes

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Spiritual Guidance for discipline, holy and shadow priests. Dawn Moore covers healing for discipline and holy priests, while her archenemy Fox Van Allen dabbles in shadow. Dawn also writes for and produces the Circle of Healing Podcast.

The last week has been a bit of an adventure for priests of the healing variety. Hotfix nerfs and buffs were implemented to address the overuse of Power Word: Shield in the aftermath of patch 4.0.6, and before long, everything was upside down. Discipline priests quickly found their mana pools drained for using multiple shields, even at ideal times, and in a weird twist of fate, holy priests were able to pick up the mantle as shield spammers. The community writhed and waited for new hotfixes to come. But would they be the last?

Given these events, I thought it would be appropriate to explain exactly what happened this past week before moving back to our weekly boss strategies.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for Feb. 19

Since the release of Patch 4.0.6, we've had a pretty steady stream of hotfix announcements, each one providing fairly substantial lists of changes over the past several weeks. Today, we've got what is less of a hotfix and more of a little note, courtesy of Community Manager Zarhym:

  • Hunters
    • The changes to Aimed Shot and Aspect of the Hawk announced yesterday have not yet been applied to live realms and should not go into effect until after the holiday weekend.

The changes referred to are the two hunter hotfixes from yesterday's list. Aimed Shot damage for hunters will be decreased to approximately 160% weapon damage at level 80+, down from 200%, and Aspect of the Hawk will provide an additional 2,000 attack power for hunters at level 85. These changes will presumably go live after Tuesday's maintenance.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for Feb. 18

Blizzard's serving up some weekend hotfixes, included the promised dungeon finder changes from earlier this week. Community Manager Zarhym posted the updated list earlier, and along with the dungeon finder tweaks, we've also got a fairly good list of class changes. Keep in mind, while the dungeon finder changes have been implemented, they will take a realm restart in order to take effect. Some highlights:
  • For hunters, Aspect of the Hawk now provides around an additional 2,000 attack power at level 85.
  • For paladins, Light of Dawn no longer heals targets outside the paladin's party or raid. It correctly heals up to five targets in the paladin's raid.
  • For warlocks, instant-cast Shadowbolts from Shadow Trance (both the talent and Glyph of Corruption versions) should no longer consume charges of Backdraft if both procs are available.
Follow us after the break for the full list of hotfixes.

Patch 4.0.6 hotfixes for Feb. 15

Another round of hotfixes has been announced this evening. Tonight brings us a few hotfixes to raid content, including every engineer's friend, the Cardboard Assassin. Sorry, my cardboard friend. Your days of tanking Cho'gall are over.

Hotfixes for Feb. 15
  • The amount of guild reputation and guild experience gained from killing a raid boss has been dramatically increased, as the previous rate felt too low compared to the difficulty of progressing through raid content. This change will require a realm restart to take effect, which will be next Tuesday's weekly scheduled maintenance at the latest.
  • Shield of Velen guards in The Exodar are now consistent with other "royal" city guards in terms of health, level, and damage.
  • Mages
    • Arcane Blast now costs 5% of base mana before stacking modifiers, down from 7%.
Dungeons & Raids
  • Baradin Hold
    • Argaloth despawns and resets properly if the raid wipes during Fel Firestorm.
  • Blackwing Descent
    • While flying around the Vault of the Shadowflame, Nefarian no longer forces everyone to stand up if engaged.
  • Throne of the Tides
    • It should no longer be possible to summon a mount in certain areas of this dungeon.
  • Shard of Woe (Heroic trinket) now reduces the base mana cost of spells by 205, with the exception of Holy and Nature spells -- the base mana cost of Holy and Nature spells remains reduced by 405 with this trinket.
  • Engineering Target Dummies are no longer able to taunt boss-level creatures.

Lichborne: Major patch 4.0.6 changes for death knights

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Lichborne for blood, frost, and unholy death knights. Join World of Warcraft's first hero class as we head into a new expansion and shed the new kid on the block label.

Patch 4.0.6 was surprisingly busy for death knights. While we did cover some of the specifics back when the first patch notes came out, how it's all played out is a little different, especially with some additional hotfixed nerfs that dropped for death knights. That said, despite the nerfs, we're really not in that bad a place, and for certain death knights, there's even good news. This week, we'll take a look at some of the most important changes that came with patch 4.0.6 and how they affect your playstyle and gearing decisions.

"The Exalted" title requirement change reverted

Tensions on the forums have been pretty high since Blizzard made a change to the achievement that awarded players the title The Exalted without announcing it beforehand. Bashiok hit the forums tonight to address said drama, saying that while the community managers were disappointed that the saga resulted in so many forum code of conduct violations, they did have a long talk with the designers, who agreed to change the achievement back to its original form. In other words, if you qualified for The Exalted before 4.0.6 (40 exalted reputations), you'll soon be awarded your title again.

Right now, the devs are unsure as to whether the change can be applied with a hotfix, but they're going to attempt one and see if it sticks. If a patch is necessary, they'll let us know. There's some additional interesting information in the blue post, including the technical reasons why Blizzard couldn't grandfather the title to those who achieved it prior to 4.0.6. Full text is after the cut.

Spiritual Guidance: Top 7 shadow priest questions about patch 4.0.6

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Spiritual Guidance for discipline, holy and shadow priests. Wednesday's shadow-specced version of Spiritual Guidance was taped before a live studio audience.

Shortly before patch 4.0.6 went live, I took a glance at the final version of the patch notes. There were hundreds of changes, spread out across each and every class. And yet, with all those changes, there were really only four of major consequence to the practicing shadow priest. Taken from yesterday's official patch notes:

Patch 4.0.6 Official Notes
  • The mana cost of Power Word: Shield has been increased by approximately 31%, but its effect has been increased by 208%.
  • Mind Blast now does 18% more damage than Mind Spike.
  • Mind Sear can now be channeled on friendly targets in addition to enemy targets. In addition, Mind Sear's damage has been increased by roughly 15%.
  • Shadow Orbs benefit from mastery has been increased by approximately 16%.

No, shadow priests, your eyes do not deceive you -- that is indeed four consecutive buffs without a single nerf. Together (especially the last three), they add up to a solid DPS increase. That's clearly good news for us, but it doesn't tell the whole story of 4.0.6 -- there are still some yet-to-be-resolved questions. Is haste still our best secondary stat, or should we gem for something else? Do the changes mean we should now be hit-capped? How do the changes in 4.0.6 affect rotations?

If you still have questions about patch 4.0.6, then today's column is for you -- it's all about answers.

Ink traders come to Stormwind, Orgrimmar in patch 4.0.6

Those of us who make Darkmoon decks will no longer have to park our scribes in Dalaran to access the ink trader there, because patch 4.0.6 will bring with it the addition of ink traders in Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Now, aside from changing an alchemist's proc specialization, there's no reason to move any crafting character out of the main cities!

Ink Traders are being added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar in 4.0.6.

The ink trader used to be the center of every glyph maker's business. Now that the traders only take the somewhat more expensive Blackfallow Ink, they're mostly used as a way to create more Inferno Ink. I also sometimes use them to trade Blackfallow Ink in for lower-level, common inks when I need them for glyphs, but that's only when my stocks of old-world herbs dry up. So far, actually, it's been only Ethereal Ink from Outland.

Patch 4.0.6 bug locks race-changed worgen out of dungeon finder

Patch 4.0.6, like all patches before it, brings surprises as well as the expected changes. Hopefully you leveled your worgen the old-fashioned way. If not, like me, you will be stuck unable to queue for any Cataclysm dungeon. At least right now, it appears that players who race-changed to worgen are experiencing the issue, with no reports of race-changed goblins or characters who were rolled at level 1 worgen or goblins having the issue. The bug locks you out of all dungeons, even ones you've obviously completed. I'm wearing gear from several dungeons I now can't do.

Bashiok - Random dungeon: have not completed required quest
This appears to be a bug affecting specific characters which is keeping them from being able to queue with a "You have not completed the required quest" error, and we're in the process of investigating.

It looks like this may only affect Worgen characters, specifically those that race changed to Worgen before 4.0.6, but we're still investigating.

Well, at least now I can stop worrying about getting my daily valor points. Hopefully, the issue will be ironed out soon, because both of my level 85 worgen warriors are bored as heck right now.

Edit: As of 3:57 p.m. EST, this seems to have been hotfixed on at least some servers. I can now queue on both my worgen.
