Patch 5.1: More new achievements

Patch 51 More New Achievements!
There are several new achievements coming in, many for the Brawler's Guild, as you'd expect, given that it's a new feature coming in the patch. We posted previously about an earlier batch of achievements, and we were right in thinking that the earlier release was far from a finite list. The same applies to these achievements, so if there's something you're waiting for, don't give up hope.

First, there are some changes to pet-related feats of strength. Deathy, Murkablo, Murky, The Marine and Tyrael's Hilt's feats of strength are all now account wide. It makes perfect sense that only one character has to have any of those pets for them all to get the achievement.

There are also two new achievements, one pet battle-related which is Pandaren Spirit Tamer, which requires you to defeat all the Pandaren spirits in battle, and awards you one of the Air, Earth, Fire and Water spirit pets. If you want to get the other three, they can be farmed from daily quests, such as Burning Pandaren Spirit.

Additionally, a raid achievement called And... It's Good! requires players to fly through the discs above the Engine of Nalak'sha in Mogu'shan Vaults on Normal or Heroic difficulty.

Our favorites of these are the Brawler's Guild ones, which include The First Rule of Fight Club. There's also the two Rabble Rabble Rabble achievements, which sound really interesting as it currently appears that players are portaling into the opposite faction's city. Dirty Fighter is also very interesting, it makes us wonder just exactly how one goes about playing dirty in the Brawler's Guild!

Mists of Pandaria is here! The level cap has been raised to 90, many players have returned to Azeroth, and pet battles are taking the world by storm. Keep an eye out for all of the latest news, and check out our comprehensive guide to Mists of Pandaria for everything you'll ever need to know.

Patch 5.1 PTR patch notes update for Oct 23

Patch 51 PTR patch notes update for Oct 23
An update to the patch 5.1 PTR has just been released, with a bunch of new changes and adjustments. Along with a ton of class tweaks, there are plenty of changes and updates to Pet Battles and more. Most importantly and probably top on everyone's priority list is a change to raids that players have been waiting for for a very long time.
  • Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines -- as of patch 5.1, you will no longer need to be in a raid group to enter a pre-Mists of Pandaria raid.
  • Scenarios are now going to include Dungeon Finder queue features like leaders, backfill, and vote to kick.
  • The Dragon Kite can now be used in Pet Battles! Are balloons far behind? We hope not.
Read on for the full list of updates.

Patch 5.1 PTR: New Gryphon and Wyvern Models

The dataminers have been extremely busy on the PTR lately, extracting all sorts of exciting items and features from the latest build. Among those, new Gryphon and Wyvern mounts have been datamined, as displayed in the video above.

It appears from the video that all the models of the basic faction mounts will be updated with patch 5.1, with these new models replacing the basic wyvern and gryphon, the swift wyvern and gryphon. There is also a new mount variety being introduced: the Grand Armored Gryphon and the Grand Armored Wyvern. These are the heavily armored models in the video, and require artisan riding.

Inevitably, there will be players who prefer the old models, so it will be interesting to see if they are just replaced, or kept around somehow for those players' delectation. It's really exciting to see that Blizzard is working on these models, as it bodes well for other model updates including, if we dare to dream it, character models!

Of course, character models, with the vast variety of animations and clothing and the like will take far longer to complete than a few wyverns and gryphons. But nonetheless, any model updates are usually welcome!

Patch 5.1 adds new music tracks for Alliance, Horde

It's no secret that I love the music of Mists of Pandaria. But there's a part of me that missed the old themes and recognizable strains of the Alliance and Horde themes scattered about the old world. In patch 5.1, the Alliance and Horde will officially make their appearance on Pandaria's shores, bringing the conflict straight to the pandaren along with new scenarios, and new music.

Wowhead dug up some of the tracks from the PTR and put them together in a video that's a little over 45 minutes long. Despite the length, it's well worth the listen, as the glorious sounds of Alliance anthems are brought back to life, as well as a darker, more haunting set of refrains for the Horde. Included too are tracks titled "Jaina's Homeland," which are recognizable variations of the Dalaran themes from Wrath of the Lich King.

And if you'd like a little twisted fun, there's a track at the end for the new Darkmoon Faire carousel coming with the next patch, too. It's got that sweet yet slightly off feeling of any good track from a Burton movie. I love the music for Warcraft, and I love that we're getting so many music updates right along with patch updates. I hope we'll be able to purchase these pieces on a secondary soundtrack at some point!

PvP sound announcements in patch 5.1

PvP sound announcements in 51
The dataminers have been at it again, revealing some more sound files from the upcoming patch 5.1. These ones are PvP-specific, announcing key events in arenas and battlegrounds. If you listen to the sound files (in a video after the break), you can hear that it's things like "The arena battle is about to begin" or "the gate of the yellow moon was destroyed". They're read in a male or female voice, which varies between sounding excitable and indifferent!

Now, I usually do my very best to approach new features with a positive viewpoint at best, and an open mind at worst, but I really hope these come with the option to turn them off. I'm fairly confident that they will, but not 100% sure. I've spoken before about my dislike of additional sound feedback during PvP, hence why I don't use addons like GladiatorLoSSA. The visual clues do just fine for me, in both arenas and battlegrounds, and I am of the opinion that audio is best used to hear spell effects and communicate with my team, so I am not really keen on these!

But, on the other hand, I know that many people are big fans of audio announcers. The aforementioned GladiatorLoSSA wouldn't be so popular and highly recommended otherwise! I remain excited to see just what other UI changes Blizzard are planning to bring out with 5.1.

Darkmoon Faire updates in store for patch 5.1

Darkmoon Faire updates in store for patch 51
Those patiently waiting for additional updates to the Darkmoon Faire will only have to wait until patch 5.1 for more to do and items to collect! Wowhead dug up the latest details on the Darkmoon Faire, including several new pets as well as a new attraction. The Darkmoon Carousel can be ridden with tickets, and it has an added bonus for leveling players -- you'll receive a buff simply titled WHEE! that increases experience and reputation gain by 10% for an hour.

The Darkmoon Faire also gets its own Master Pet Trainer for players to defeat. Jeremy Feasel will be available on the island with a monkey, a tonk, and a Darkmoon Eye for players to defeat. What's that Darkmoon Eye all about? Apparently it's a new pet that's available from Darkmoon Pet Supplies -- something that may be obtained from beating Jeremy Feasel.

If you haven't been doing any Darkmoon Faire dailies recently, now would be a good time to start, as there's a new pet available for tickets. The Darkmoon Hatchling is an adorable mini version of the Swift Forest Strider already available at the Faire. It'll set you back 90 tickets, but it's completely adorable -- and who doesn't like a pet that matches a favorite mount? Visit Wowhead for more details on the new items and sites from the Darkmoon Faire.

Crowd Control announced on your screen in patch 5.1

Crowd Control announced on your screen in patch 51
In one of my earlier PvP addon posts here at WoW Insider, I talked about a fantastic addon, which was, and still is, called LoseControl. What LoseControl did was to bring up an icon in the middle of your screen whenever you lost control of your character, that indicated precisely how you had lost control, by displaying a spell icon, and for how long. This could also be modified by OmniCC to add a duration if you preferred that to the pie-chart method of measuring time, as can be seen in the header image.

I always think that the mark of a really good addon is when Blizzard incorporates it into the game, and it looks like this is exactly what's happening with LoseControl. The Blizzard blog with the official 5.1 PTR patch notes had this to say:

Blizzard
A new banner will appear when a player is subjected to an effect that causes them to lose control of their character. The effect that caused the loss of control and remaining duration will be displayed. Configuration options are available in the "Combat" section of the "Interface Options" menu.

Additionally, new strings have been datamined that indicate that these banners will show the type of CC a player is subject to, as well as the effect itself, so, for example, Psychic Scream is a fear effect, and can be removed with Will of the Forsaken or a Tremor Totem, whereas Mortal Coil is a horror and cannot.

Patch 5.1 Sound Files: The conflict gets real (Spoilers!)

51 The conflict gets real
Over at MMO Champion, a large amount of sound files have been datamined from the 5.1 PTR, all of which are embedded after the cut for your listening pleasure. They provide some fascinating foresights into what awaits players in the upcoming patch, as well as setting us up for the flavor of the expansion to come.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not hit the break or listen to these sound files, or visit the MMO Champion thread if you don't want spoilers. These sound files are so spoiler-heavy, just listening to them spoiled the milk in my fridge. If you don't want spoilers, don't go over the break, don't hit the link, and don't listen or watch. Fair warning.

Stackable stag coming in patch 5.1

One of the most unintentionally hilarious bugs to hit with patch 5.0.4 introduced the phenomenon of stag stacking. This bug allowed druids in travel form with the Glyph of the Stag to ... well, stack on top of each other. Towers of stags took Azeroth by storm, and a flurry of screenshots littered sites like Reddit until the bug was quite sadly hotfixed, and stags were left solo and inconsolable.

Apparently Blizzard liked this bug, even if it wasn't really appropriate for player use. MMO-Champion datamined a new item called a Stackable Stag from the patch 5.1 PTR. Using the item will summon a stackable stag at a target location, and if there is another Stackable Stag present, it will stack on top of it. It's not quite as laughably horrifying as a giant stack of stags trundling through the streets of Orgrimmar, but I'll take it.

At the moment, it's unclear where one will be able to obtain this item, but it should clear up by the time patch 5.1 is released.

Datamined scenario voice files point to heartbreak in 5.1

Datamined scenario voice files point to heartbreak in 51
With patch 5.1 hitting the PTR, spoilers are now out and abundant in regards to the new patch for Mists of Pandaria. MMO-Champion has datamined several bits of information from the PTR, including spells and item information. But most disturbing is a set of voice files, presumably from a scenario of some sort that involves Horde and Alliance facing off in the wilds of Krasarang.

We'll post the full voice files after the break, but be forewarned: This is absolutely, without question spoiler content. If you'd like to remain unspoiled about what's going on in future patches, I'd strongly recommend against clicking through. In addition, keep in mind that this is early PTR, and the voice files you hear may not even be included in the completed patch -- so listen if you'd like, but remember that what you are hearing is not completed content, and may change drastically before the patch is released.

Spoilers follow after the break. Read on at your own risk.

Patch 5.1 coming to the PTR soon

Patch 51 coming to the PTR soon, includes Brawler's Guild
When they said they wanted to get patches out faster, they appear not to have been kidding, because patch 5.1 is already slated to head for the PTR soon. And it looks like it's going to be chock full of improvements.
  • The Brawler's Guild, allowing you to engage in solo PvE content against various difficult monsters, similar to the Proving Grounds concept from a while ago.
  • The ability to upgrade the rarity of pets in the pet battle system via an as yet undisclosed method.
  • Wrathion's legendary questline will advance.
  • You'll be able to spend valor points to upgrade items.
All of this and news of the advancement of the Horde/Alliance conflict. If you're wondering how that will move forward, patch 5.1 will have the answers for you. Coming soon to a PTR near you.

The complete text of the announcement is behind the break.
