Patch 5.2 Valor reset canceled

Patch 52 Valor reset canceled
Stop spending your valor points right now. Zarhym has posted a late-breaking update regarding the currency changes originally slated for patch 5.2. He posted the following:

After reading your feedback and locking ourselves in dim, fluorescent-lit rooms for much deliberation, we have decided that we are NOT going to convert Valor to Justice and Justice to gold when 5.2 ships. Current Valor items will continue to require Valor in 5.2, and will be offered at a discount as listed in the PTR patch notes. Given that PvE and PvP currencies function quite a bit differently, Conquest will still convert to Honor and Honor to gold as previously discussed ...

This means that, rather than spending your valor, your best bet is likely to do your best to reach the valor cap in the time between now and the arrival of patch 5.2. The estimated date of this has also been pushed back from Bashiok's original projection of the last week in February, to an approximation of three weeks from now. This would put the release date at around March 6th, giving players three weeks to earn as much valor as possible to carry forward into patch 5.2. Bashiok also chimed in, saying that the new valor gear will begin to be available from Neutral reputation with the new faction.

Notably, PvP points will continue to be reset as usual. The remainder of Zarhym's post is after the break.

Patch 5.2 PTR: PvP dailies, and additional rewards for PvE Dailies.

Patch 52 PTR PvE and PvP Dailies
The option to choose between PvE and PvP dailies was mentioned a while back in the first set of patch 5.2 PTR patch notes, and now they're finally live. There's no unlocking required, either, both factions simply need to complete their "Assault on..." scenario -- for the Alliance it's Shaol'Mara, for the Horde, Zeb'Tula. Both scenarios play out exactly the same, speak to either Jaina or Lor'themar to start the solo instance, and fly over the island with your scout, and go from there. I won't spoil it, but a little while and a lot of killing (the Alliance one was quite a bit harder than the Horde one for a fire mage) later, you'll leave the instance and find yourself in either Sunseeker Premontory or Violet Rise, depending on faction.

Once you've unlocked the faction base, you'll need to seek out the Assignment Map to choose your variety of daily quest.

Patch 5.2 PTR: Isle of the Thunder King testing unlock schedule

Patch 52 PTR The Unlockable Isle's unlock schedule
Nakatoir has posted today regarding the impending advancement of the Thunder King on the patch 5.2 PTR, laying out the unlock schedule of the unlockable isle.

World of Warcraft Patch 5.2: The Thunder King is almost here. The Kirin-Tor Offensive, led by Jaina Proudmoore, and the Sunreaver Onslaught, championed by Lor'themar Theron, are converging on the Isle of the Thunder King to topple the first emperor before he can wreak havoc across Pandaria. Their campaign will march slowly across the island, unlocking new content over time.

We're ready to test the full breadth of the island, and that's where you come in: Players who participate on the Public Test Realm can enjoy an accelerated unlock schedule, blasting from the beach to the shores and into the Thunder King's inner citadel in a matter of a few short weeks. By participating, you'll be a great asset to Jaina and Lor'themar. More importantly, you'll help us knock out any nasty problems with the island and its progression before we go live.

Transfer over a character and report to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms for instructions!

So, if you want to be among the first to witness the new storylines, the new lore, zones and quests, copy a character or create a pre-made! The full unlock schedule is after the break, so you can understand how the island will progress. Please do note that this is a testing schedule only, not a prediction of a release date.

Spoiler Alert! Minor spoilers after the break.

All-you-can-grab loot in Patch 5.2's Treasure Room

Allyoucangrab loot in Patch 52's Treasure Room
Wowhead recently took a trip to Thunder Isle's Treasure Room to check out this new scenario, as mentioned by Blizzard on their Under Development page for patch 5.2. Blizzard's page describes it as a "single-player loot-grabbing scenario", so it seemed like a good spot for Perculia and friends to check out! As previously mentioned in the patch notes, the Treasure Room is one of the many things unlocked by gaining a lead in the War Effort on your server's copy of the Isle of Thunder, principally by carrying out different daily quests. Getting ahead in the War Effort also allows access to the Lightning Forge, one of many new Blacksmithing additions.

The scenario is located in the Thunder King's Citadel, and has two steps, which were pretty simple at the time of writing:

Stage 1 – Speak to Taoshi
You will only have a limited amount of time to gather as much treasure as you can. Speak to Taoshi when you're ready to begin.
Final Stage – Reach the Exit
Grab as much treasure as you can and reach the exit before the timer expires.

Looking at the image above, the treasure chests not only appear pretty clearly, but also appear very unencumbered by any enemy mobs. It's highly unlikely that this will remain the case! Wowhead's venture into the scenario also revealed more rooms whose doors were opened by levers, some of which were a considerable distance from their target doors. There's also an achievement to open ten chests in the scenario which implies that they're far harder to get to than the header image might imply.

Loot so far has included things like Spirits of Harmony, Elder Charms (note: not the new Mogu charms), and the stones used to summon patch 5.2's rare bosses. Of course, this is PTR, so the loot tables could vary considerably before this launches on live servers. All in all, it looks like a fun scenario, and perhaps the first attempt at using the solo scenario technology in anticipation of the much-vaunted Proving Grounds feature!
