The OverAchiever: Guide to Pilgrim's Bounty 2012

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, we advise you to stay away from the bathroom scale.

While Pilgrim's Bounty isn't part of the meta What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, a lot of players still find it one of most helpful yearly events. Yes, you can rack up some points with the Pilgrim meta and get a plump turkey pet, but the holiday has an absolutely unbeatable side benefit -- it's an incredibly fast, easy, and cheap way to level cooking to 350. Pilgrim's Bounty is tailor-made for anyone who wants to get cooking leveled on a bunch of alts, or anyone who never got around to doing it on his or her main. As with Hallow's End, there's an additional benefit for all those of us slaving away on Mists of Pandaria reputation grinds: The Spirit of Sharing from the feast tables grants an additional 10% to reputation gains.

As far as we know, the holiday hasn't changed from previous incarnations, but as always, I'll be around as it goes live to update or clarify any portion of this guide. This year, Pilgrim's Bounty runs from Sunday, Nov. 18 through Saturday, Nov. 24.

The OverAchiever: The worst (maybe) holiday achievements

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, some holidays are easier to survive than others.

I've been getting a lot of comments and feedback from players recently over troublesome elder placement during the Lunar Festival (the one next to the Razor Hill flightmaster seems to be a particular issue -- more on this in a future article), and it spurred me to start thinking about problematic holiday achievements as a whole. Thing is, Blizzard's really put a lot of effort into its holidays over the past few years, and most of them are much less time-consuming and frustrating then they used to be.

So how many really troublesome holiday achievements are there these days, anyhow? Most of them didn't figure prominently in our evil achievements series (with one sterling exception), but I'll grant that not all of them are sunshine and roses.

But then of course, there's that one. Yes, that one -- the achievement shat into existence by Satan himself onto a bed of Ed Hardy clothing with bad Japanese pop music playing in the background. You know the one I'm talking about.

It came from the Blog: Pilgrim's Bounty 2011 snapshots

Orgrimmar tables for Pilgrim's Bounty
It came from the Blog participated in Pilgrim's Bounty this year, as we do every year. Deathwing did not come to visit us, but we had fun regardless. Together, we got the Food Fight achievement as well as Sharing is Caring. We also traveled to each town so that we all could acquire Pilgrim's Paunch. There was achievement spam galore. After the event, many of us continued to do the quests for fun and achievements and to raise our cooking skill.

We will be sure to have an event this month for the Feast of Winter Veil. Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, we have pictures below.

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. All guild ranks can invite, so /whisper Roblinator or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules -- basically, don't be a funsucker! Visit the guild FAQ for more details.

Breakfast Topic: Pilgrim's Bounty

Pilgrim's Bounty kicked off on live realms this morning, and it'll be running until Nov. 26. If you're the sort of person who adores achievements, this event is for you: shootin' turkeys, cooking them, and then abusing your dinner in a glorious food fight. If you're into that kind of thing, boy do we have a guide for you.

If you're not into achievements? As mentioned in a recent edition of The Queue, there isn't a whole lot to do beyond leveling your cooking skill quickly and easily across all of your alts. I think that's pretty cool, though. Leveling cooking can be tedious at the low end of things, especially if you don't bolster your cooking skill with fishing.

What are your plans for Pilgrim's Bounty? Will you dig into the achievements? Content yourself with leveling your cooking skill? Heck, is your guild organizing an event of some sort? Or will you skip this one altogether, due to the lack of sweet, sweet epics?

How will you spend Pilgrims Bounty?
Achievements!1394 (26.7%)
Just leveling cooking.1756 (33.7%)
I\'ll sit this one out.2062 (39.6%)

The OverAchiever: Guide to Pilgrim's Bounty 2011

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. Today, we're too full to move.

For all you dedicated achievement hunters out there, Pilgrim's Bounty is not part of the year-long meta What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, but that's not to say that the holiday's without its share of charms. While the Pilgrim meta will grant both the Pilgrim title and the plump turkey pet, the holiday has an absolutely unbeatable side benefit -- it's the fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to level cooking to 350. Pilgrim's Bounty is tailor-made for players who want to level cooking on a bunch of alts or anyone who never got around to doing it on his or her main.

We haven't seen any new information emerge on Pilgrim's Bounty over the past year, so the holiday probably hasn't changed much from its 2009 and 2010 incarnations. As always, I'll be around as the holiday goes live to update or clarify any portion of this guide. This year, Pilgrim's Bounty runs from Sunday, Nov. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 26.

The Queue: Fus Ro Dah

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

Oh jeez. Oh gosh. It's 6:30 a.m. and I haven't written The Queue yet. This is your fault, Skyrim. This is all your fault. I hate you so much. Get out of my life, Skyrim. I never want to see you again.

Wait, baby, no! I didn't mean it! Come back, please! I need you. I need you so bad.

AGuyOnTheInternet asked:

Any idea what Blizzard's plan is to get people missing expansions to be set and ready for MoP? Like a battle chest or something?

It came from the Blog: Pilgrim's Bounty 2010 snapshots

Back in November, the It came from the Blog family of guilds celebrated Pilgrim's Bounty by getting a few achievements together. Most of us were able to get Food Fight, Sharing is Caring and Pilgrim's Paunch. Some cooking happened, along with some running and a whole lot of silliness. Check out the gallery below for all of the food-related shenanigans.

Breakfast Topic: My Pilgrim's Bounty feast

Sound the alarms! The fire is spreading through the Drag! Quickly, you... yes you there -- rally all able-bodied soldiers to the barricades! We are under elemental siege! Wait, what? Where are our heroes in this desperate time of war and destruction?

...

Pilgrim's Bounty ... the elementals have already won ...

Personally, I am a fan of Pilgrim's Bounty. Whether I am a fan of the holiday while the world roils in upheaval and churns in turmoil is another story entirely. Mostly, I enjoy cooking, and Pilgrim's Bounty is a cook's dream holiday, especially if you have a Chef's Hat. All this food got me thinking about food, however. Personally, every time those damned candied potatoes show up I get seriously hungry for some good potatoes. At my Pilgrim's Bounty feast, there will be so many potatoes.

How about you? Which Pilgrim's Bounty foodstuffs will grace your table this holiday? Which of the holiday recipes are your favorites to cook and why? Also, bonus question: How many of you got Chef de Cuisine after learning the Pilgrim's Bounty recipes?

The OverAchiever: Guide to Pilgrim's Bounty 2010

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. Today, we're running a special holiday guide for all those interested in stuffing themselves on turkey.

The Pilgrim's Bounty holiday was introduced to World of Warcraft just last year, so it's still fairly new. This year, the event will run from Sunday, November 21st through Saturday, November 27th. On my EST server, the start and end times on both dates will be 4:00 am, but you'll want to check the times on your own realm.

Pilgrim's Bounty is not part of the yearlong meta What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been. That's not to say that the holiday's without its share of rewards, though; doing the Pilgrim meta will grant both the Pilgrim title and the plump turkey pet. However, the holiday has an unbeatable side benefit; it's the fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to level cooking to 350. Pilgrim's Bounty is tailor-made for anyone who needs to level cooking on a bunch of alts, or anyone who never got around to doing it on his/her main.

Pilgrim's Bounty hasn't appeared at any point on WoW's PTR or beta since last year, so we're assuming for the moment that the holiday hasn't changed from its 2009 incarnation beyond a few bug fixes (that and the developers are probably working at breakneck speed on Cataclysm still). I've updated and clarified our 2009 guide past the cut, and will also be around as the event goes live to ensure all the information here is accurate.

Breakfast Topic: The reason for the seasonal achievements

Thanksgiving (or the United States version thereof) is quickly approaching, and with it comes the in-game Pilgrim's Bounty event. Now, I didn't actually finishing Pilgrim's Bounty last year. This is mostly because I was visiting my family for the entire week of Thanksgiving, so I was only playing on my laptop, and my laptop is sufficiently low-tech that it does not run WoW all that well. Also, I was totally spending most of my time with my family. This month, though, I'm going to be in town with access to my usual gaming rig, so I'll have more than enough time and ability to finish up the achievements.

That said, I'm still deciding whether or not I'll actually take the time to do them. After all, none of the Pilgrim's Bounty achievements are needed for What a Long, Strange Trip. I mean, an extra turkey pet is sort of cool, but otherwise, there's not really much of a profit to them. Also, some of the achievements seem downright annoying. Turkey Lurkey? Do I really need to run around looking for all these dumb rogues? Why so arbitrary? And what about the Turkinator? Do I really need to run around a newbie zone like a chicken with my head cut off trying to target critters more quickly than the other 100 people doing it? What does that accomplish?

Then I think about some of the other holidays. It's not like I haven't had to run around Dalaran looking for random class and race combinations before, and it's not like I haven't run around the newbie zones doing silly, inconsequential stuff before either. So why is Pilgrim's Bounty bringing out the achievement cynic in me? I like to think I've been doing achievements because they're interesting and fun, but what if they've been about the carrot and stick all along? Now that there's no reward I'm really interested in, am I finally seeing achievements for what they are, or am I just being a grinch a month early?

What do you think? Do you do achievements for fun, or are you pretty sure you'd leave them alone if they weren't rewarding you with shiny stuff?

Taiwanese player earns all of the achievements

Yes, that's right, all of them. You've probably heard about this already (we're a little late to the party, just because it seemed a little fishy to us at first), but a player in Taiwan has an Armory profile that claims he (or she, though the character is a male tauren druid) has achieved all 986 achievements available in the current version of World of Warcraft. That's everything, from Loremaster, to all the ToGC Tributes, to the Pilgrim's Bounty holiday rewards, even Insane in the Membrane. If there's something you can do in WoW, this guy seems to have done it. He hasn't finished this year's Winter's Veil achievement yet (it's not actually possible until the 15th), but he has done a PvP achievement twice, apparently, so he's still 986/986.

I'm still a little doubtful: as you can see above, the Feats of Strength bar looks like it's empty, but this guy actually has lots of Feats done as well, including all of the realm first feats (including First Aid, and Leatherworking, all within days of each other). It just doesn't seem possible that one character could do all of that. But it all seems to check out, so we'll give him his due: Congratulations, "Littlegray" of Wrathbringer. And just in case you hadn't heard: there are other games to play.

Update: I thought Insane in the Membrane was an achievement, but it is actually a Feat, and he does not have it. Thanks commenters for the clarification.
