The Queue: I went Alliance again. Shhh.

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host today.

"King Varian, totally-not-an-orc -- your new best friend, Corporal ... uh ... Brag ...Brund ... Burr ...?

...

...

... Corporal Human reporting for duty!"

Revynn asked:

I'm just hoping that the removal of Spell Resistances doesn't affect tank trinkets too heavily. Items like mirror of Broken images are still really, really good, regardless of what Blizzard thinks of Spell resist as a whole. Maybe turn them into "Reduce magic damage taken by 30%" trinkets".

I agree with you, but in the new paradigm, a trinket like the Mirror of Broken Images would never have existed, much less be any kind of useful. Basically, that item was a mistake. Any trinket that is almost necessary for certain encounters (heroic Nefarian?) and then continues to be ridiculously powerful into the next tiers is an oversight.

If you've noticed, Blizzard has been very good about those types of items in Cataclysm. While the Mirror did stay relevant, not much else did besides some Sinestra loot. That's a relief, if you ask me -- one more design issue to not deal with again and balance around is OK in my book.

Breakfast Topic: What will be your big story from the Mists of Pandaria press event?

The Mists of Pandaria press event promises to bring us new and exciting information about Mists of Pandaria, but it's dawned on me that different types of players are looking for different types of news. Existing subscribers and max-level players are looking for new endgame content, to be sure, but also for new minigames and advancement to keep things fresh after the initial run-throughs.

Plenty of returning players are taking advantage of the new Scroll of Resurrection to see the end game of Cataclysm before the new expansion launches and are looking to Mists of Pandaria as a spiritual return to the Wrath of the Lich King boom. What are these players looking for that will keep them around?

New players, believe it or not, will be picking up Mists of Pandaria and will most likely be looking for compelling experiences rather than something that's been built on for years. The pandaren story may well be enough to bring new people into the game, a happy metaphor for the pandaren themselves.

What are you looking forward to hearing about the most?

Mists of Pandaria news coming in March with press sneak peek

Blizzard has announced that some information is coming about the highly anticipated Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's fourth expansion -- well, information with regards to when there will be information about Mists of Pandaria. In the middle of March, Blizzard will hold a special press event for members of the media to see what kind of progress has been made, in showable form, since BlizzCon 2011's impressively far-along demo.

As Nethaera posted, information is coming, and we now have a date. This feels like Blizzard's taking a page from the Apple book. Pressers and hype events like these work incredibly well for a company like Blizzard that is very much an Apple of its industry. By calling its own press conferences, conventions, and press trips rather than announcing information amongst the rest of the gaming industry at conventions like PAX, the message is much more focused and clear -- the cacophony is removed. I'm excited to know when new information will be available. Of course, I'd rather have the information, but a day to hope for is better than nothing. It's gonna get busy in March.
