WoW Moviewatch: The Truth About Murlocs

When I first saw Truth About Murlocs, I was sitting on the couch working and my wife was sitting across the room from me. Within the first line of the song by DarkPippi, I pressed pause and asked her to join me. It took me exactly that long to know this video, with machinima by RavenSylphe, was going to be epic.

Truth About Murlocs is a parody of Rainbow Connection as performed by Kermit the Frog. The lyrics are clever and fun. The animation is simple and made up of in-game graphics, but they're perfectly suited to the song. The overall composition is fantastic, providing a few minutes of fun, Muppet-flavored nostalgia and WoW hijinks.

The only down side of the video is that the vocals are too quiet compared to the actual music track. That makes the lyrics tough to make out in places, and it definitely undervalues the spot-on Kermit impression.

WoW Moviewatch: Epics

I have rarely laughed so hard at a video. I don't know if it was the vocal work, the faux-serious animation, or the carefully crafted lyrics. Epics is a collaboration video between RavenSylphe, CryKoda, and RedX. I think it's also a Justin Beiber parody, but since it would diminish my masculinity by even admitting I recognize that fact, I'm going to pretend to have no clue.

It's hard to do a deep and meaningful review of something like Epics, but I do want to point out a few particularly notable pieces. First, RavenSylphe's eye for music video continues to be strong. I'd be interested in seeing the machinimator take a crack at a different movie style, but I think her continually high quality is definitely making a mark. CryKoda and RedX perform this music with a clear sense of irony and comedy, but it seems like some folks still took the song to be completely serious. I'm just not quite sure what to make of that, so I'd encourage everyone to keep an open mind when checking out Epics.

WoW Moviewatch: AttentionWhore

Work Warning: Lots of scantily dressed WoW character models here. If you're in a workplace where a Draenei in her skimpies might be looked askance at, check it out at home instead.

AttentionWhore is the new machinima by RavenSylphe to feature EmberIsolte's song by the same name. This is the second video created this way, since RavenSylphe has given similar treatment to Shut Up and Grind. The song was written and performed by EmberIsolte while the graphics are all the work of RavenSylphe, of course.

This video certainly has a lot of eye candy. RavenSylphe did an amazing job with the video, and it couples very well with EmberIsolte's tunes. AttentionWhore is a welcome departure from belf rap in music videos, since it seems most musical acts tend to prefer the Horde. I will say that the lyrics were kind of tough to make out, though, which was somewhat a distraction from my overall enjoyment of the piece.

Still, EmberIsolte and RavenSylphe are a whole lot of fun, and I love seeing new stuff from them.
