Choose My Adventure: Andrenorton lives

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on Zangarmarsh (US-H).

It looks like we'll be heading to Stranglethorn Vale by an overwhelming majority. As for Matthew Rossi's mage, you voted to have him keep it. Technically, there were more votes for other classes if you add them together. So I gave Matt the option of switching to druid (the winner of the other classes) or remaining a mage. He chose to keep Andrenorton.

The schedule changed a teeny bit since it's a holiday week.
  • Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time)
  • Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, blood elf warlock: Tuesday, 11:30 p.m. EDT
  • Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EDT
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Wednesday, 11 p.m. EDT
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10 p.m. EDT
  • Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the troll mage, Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, and Gregg Reece as Yakkowakko, the orc warlock, will be making appearances as they can

If you want to join in on the fun of Choose My Adventure, please join us on US Zangarmarsh-H in <It came from the Blog>. Ask Robiness, Robinemia or any member online for an invite. Guild ranks of Lurker or above have the ability to invite. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules, that can be summed up with "Don't be a Funsucker!" Choose My Adventure: Death by Bieber

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

According to your votes, Andrenorton will become an herbalist and scribe. For Selfloathius, the numbers were slightly ahead for tailoring and enchanting in the polls, but there were extra votes for engineering and other things in the comments -- with very good reasons to go along with them. So, Selfloathius will take up engineering and mining. And the winner for our favorite suicidal warlock's next death is to go to Teldrassil and jump off the tree, all while listening to Justin Bieber.

Here is the schedule for the week:
  • Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, blood elf warlock: Monday, 11:30 p.m. EDT
  • Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time)
  • Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock: Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Choose My Adventure: One of each

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

We now have one of each kind of warlock. Selfloathius will be affliction, Sahko will study demonology and Yakkowakko will be all about destruction. Mr. Hobbs will have advice for our young 'locks on Wednesday. In the meantime, here is our schedule for the week:
  • Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, blood elf warlock: Monday, 11:30 p.m. EDT
  • Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time)
  • Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EDT
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Wednesday, 11 p.m. EDT
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10 p.m. EDT
  • Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the troll mage, Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, and Gregg Reece as Yakkowakko, the orc warlock, will be making appearances as they can
The poll with methods for Selfloathius's demise will be on Friday, so you still have time to suggest more options in the comments and vote up your favorites.

Choose My Adventure: There's a new 'lock in town

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

It looks like the mid-20s crew will be hanging out in Hillsbrad Foothills this week. And, of course, Christian Belt will begin playing his new blood elf warlock tonight. I hope you're all proud of yourselves. (I know you are.)
  • Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, blood elf warlock: Monday, 11 p.m. EDT
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Wednesday, 11 p.m. EDT
  • Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time).

Choose My Adventure: Polls for Christian Belt

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

Foxlight is now even more aptly named, now that you have chosen holy for his talent tree. You also voted for jewelcrafting/mining, so he will be making pretty, sparkly things. But, while most of you find Fox Van Allen's shirtless pally fabulous, you're really here to vote on the class and race of WoW.com's prom queen, Christian Belt. You'll also get to vote on the questing zone for next week, if you so choose. But first, the schedule:
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Some time Saturday
  • Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Saturday, 8 p.m. EDT
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue, Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, and Gregg Reece, the orc warlock, will be making appearances as they can.
The polls are after the break.

Choose My Adventure: You can never have enough orc warlocks

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

So. What's with you people and orc warlocks? You voted that both Michael Sacco and Gregg Reece roll orc warlocks for their adventurers. Last week we had no WoW.com staff playing warlocks or orcs in our guild, and now we have two. When the polls go up on Friday for Christian Belt's character, you may want to be more creative. That's right -- Archmage Pants will be joining Choose My Adventure, because you demanded it.

In other news, we'll be questing in Stonetalon Peak this week, when not crawling dungeons. And we have more polls today because Foxlight turned 10 on Friday and wants you to choose his talent tree and professions. But first, this week's schedule:
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Wednesday, 11 p.m. to midnight EDT
  • Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week.
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue will also be making appearances as she can.
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: some time Saturday.
  • Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can.
  • Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time).
  • Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT.
  • Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EDT.
  • Gregg Reece, the orc warlock, will be making appearances as he can.

Choose My Adventure: Week 5 schedule

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

I have a confession to make. I did some extra leveling on Robinemia this weekend, leaving my fellow adventurers behind. It's not my fault! (It's totally my fault.) I couldn't resist the call of the sparkle pony. Also, a mage really isn't a mage without ports, right? /rationalize

Anyway, the poll results are in:
  • Fox Van Allen will be playing a blood elf paladin, with promises of RP.
  • Grayfields, Michael Gray's tauren hunter, will use a spider pet for PvP.
  • Anne Stickney's troll warrior will level as protection and take up blacksmithing and mining as professions.
  • Matthew Rossi will level as a frost mage, but I still think he should reroll something he has fun with.
And our schedule for this week is:
  • Fox Van Allen, blood elf paladin: TBA

Choose My Adventure: Schedule for week 4

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

Well there was no suspense about the vote for the last polls. Silverpine Forest and the Dungeon Finder were both ahead early and stayed that way the entire weekend. Robinemia has promised to stop whining, but keep in mind that she is Forsaken and therefore bad at both keeping promises and not being emo. Here is this week's schedule:
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Thursday, 11 p.m. to midnight EDT
  • Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week.
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10-11 p.m. EDT
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Saturday, 3-4 p.m. EDT
  • Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can.
Robinemia is already at The Sepulcher in her latest outfit. See you tonight!

  • Warsong Gulch Yes
  • Patent's professions Engineering/Mining (by one point over Leatherworking/Skinning)
  • Matthew Rossi's race and class troll mage
  • WoW.com prom queen Christian Belt
This week's schedule is:
  • Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Thursday, 11pm to midnight EDT
  • Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter: Tuesday, 7:30pm to 9pm EDT and Thursday, 8:30pm to 10pm EDT
  • Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10pm to 11pm EDT
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Saturday, 2pm to 4pm EDT
  • Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some premades together for our WSG excursions. See you tonight!

Choose My Adventure: Who, when and where

You, the readers, have spoken and now our fates are sealed. Elizabeth Harper will be playing a troll shaman and I will be playing an undead mage. Because only blood elves can do their own first set of quests and because neither of us were chosen to be blood elves, we will all be starting in Mulgore, where the tauren begin their journeys.

I have a question which I don't think anyone can really answer: why did such a huge percentage of you choose shaman for our Editor in Chief? I am just fascinated by how many of you chose that class without seeing the results first. Really, I can't wrap my brain around it.

Also, I would like to thank you voters for keeping it exciting for me all weekend. Mage and rogue were neck and neck at all times, with mage only winning by a few votes by the time the polls closed. And then a technical error allowed votes to be tallied after the polls closed and rogue got more votes overnight. I'm too emotionally invested in Robinemia, the level 1 undead mage to change her to Robinasty the level 1 undead rogue due to some technical shenanigans. Besides, I think we're going to need a taxi later.

Our schedule and how to join us is after the break.

Survey reveals what twinks are all about

This is interesting -- our friend Drayner over at Twinkinfo.com recently took a survey of his site's readers, and after picking up almost 1,000 replies, he's posted the results. They show a little bit of insight into the kind of person that plays a twink (a character maxed out at a certain level before 80, usually to run around in PvP battlegrounds). Specifically, they're male, under 21, play for 21-30 hours a week, think their gear rates a 5 out of 5, and are probably level 19 and in Warsong Gulch capturing flags. I'm not sure if that's suprising or not, but those are pretty safe majority votes, even given the smaller sample size of the poll.

Twink players are also more likely to not have more than one account, which kind of makes sense -- they only need one account and just have lots of characters on them. 66% of twinks are actually in twink guilds, and most have at least more than one twink to play around with. Hunters and Rogues top the class choices (though not with a clear majority at all). And perhaps most interesting, over 50% of twinks say Blizzard is serving them just fine -- they're not ignoring them, and they're not giving them any more love than other players. Still, as Drayner pointed out to us, about 36% of twinks said they'd leave the game if Blizzard shut them down with an additional 30% saying Maybe, so Blizzard does have a little incentive there to keep twinking happening.

Quite interesting -- twinks might be one of the only groups of players who are completely fine with how they're being handled in game. 2.3 obviously gave them lots of new items to play with, and while there is some frustration from other players, Blizzard has made it so easy to level that if you don't want to play with the twinks at 19, you can move on pretty quickly.

70% of WoW Insider readers will be on Voice Chat

Well there you go. I'd like to say that I called it (although I did say that voice chat would find a place in a lot of PUGgers' hearts), but I was surprised to see that 70% of you readers expect to use Blizzard's new voice chat feature coming in 2.2. Personally, I'd rather stick to Teamspeak (and I'm guessing my guild will do just that). And I know, from the comments yesterday, that there are lots of people out there who just don't want to get involved in voice chat, whether there's an ingame system or not.

But clearly Blizzard was right to put the time in-- there is a good majority of players ready to plug a mic in and start speaking to each other. Very interesting.

Update: You're right, commenters. Title updated from "players" to "WoW Insider readers," since that's who we actually polled. I only got a B in Stats class in college.
