Last Week in WoW: Video unrelated edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Have some chickens to amuse you while we discuss the week's news. With BlizzCon less than a month away, we're hearing more and more news about everyone's favorite gathering. In game, the patch 5.4.1 PTR is upon us, and includes new models for the Crusader Murloc pet and the new hippogryph mount. Alas, it is not the mythical patch 5.5 (which, mind you, may or may not exist at all), but it may bring us closer to said patch.

If neither of those tidbits interest you, fear not. We have plenty of new class guides, lore tidbits, and other guides to keep you busy. Downtime today is limited to rolling restarts at 7 a.m. pacific for most realms, though Black Dragonflight and Skullcrusher will be down from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. If you're from one of those realms, or just need a break, read on for stuff to keep you occupied.

Last Week in WoW: Everybody must get Hearthstoned edition

Last Week in WoW Everybody must get Hearthstoned edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. At first it seemed like all the big news this week was going to happen outside of WoW. Hearthstone got some big news, we learned more about BlizzCon rewards, and we even have a release date for the Warcraft movie.. But Blizzard came through in the 11th hour with a patch 5.4 developer roundtable, delivering lots of insight, tidbits, and even hints of future changes and content. Me, I'm pretty excited to hear about the inventory fixes, and vindicated to hear them admit that melee have it harder in most raid encounters.

If that news isn't your favorite, don't worry, there's a lot of news to go over from the past 7 days. You're sure to find something you like. Downtime today starts at 5 a.m. Pacific time and is slated to last 6 hours, so you have time to catch up. Read on for the latest updates.

Last Week in WoW: Meditating on the news edition

Last Week in WoW
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Patch 5.4 is well underway, and Blizzard's been pretty busy. So have we, of course, covering all the hotfixes, writing new guides, and even covering some of the interesting news come out of Blizzard's other games, such as some long-anticipated but somehow still unexpected news about Diablo III's most contentious feature.

Downtime this morning is regulated to a series of rolling restarts at 7 a.m. PDT, but why not take some advice from the monks? Relax, sit back, and meditate on some of the past week's news. We have the usual roundup for you below.

Last Week in WoW: Jaina Proudmoore appreciation edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Patch 5.4 has been out for a week, and we now know who the new warchief is. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, I won't say here. But I do want to say Jaina Proudmoore is the best and as an avid Alliance player, I will follow her into the gates of hell itself. She is the hero the Alliance needs.

If you're avoiding spoilers, or just want to move on to other stuff, don't worry, there's still plenty of non-spoilery news to be had, patch-related and otherwise. Scheduled maintenance today is slated to begin at 5:00 a.m. PDT and last for 6 hours, so you should have time. Read on for the usual roundup on the latest news.

Last Week in WoW: In the cards edition

Last Week in WoW In the cards edition
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. There were a lot of big stories this week. It's hard to know where to begin. If I had to pick one, I'd say the biggest was probably the purported Blizzard trademark registration for The Dark Below. Is it real? Is it a hoax? Some people (including myself) thought it might be a Diablo 3 expansion, but this website teasing the name Reaper of Souls may have taken that off the table. There's also strong evidence it may be a hoax. Of course, there's also strong evidence that it's not a hoax. In the end, I'm putting my money on Corgis unleashed. That Corgi pet will be mine, I swear!

I guess there was other news, of course, like that whole epic patch 5.4 trailer release. Me, I'm all about the Corgis though. Or the cards. The Heartstone closed beta has also begun, and most of your intrepid WoW Insider staff are in it, so expect to see more news and previews of the game in the coming weeks. In the meantime, read on to see what we've already uncovered. Downtime today starts at 3 a.m. PDT and lasts 5 hours, so you should have time.

Last Week in WoW: Still waiting edition

Last Week in WoW Still waiting edition
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. There's a buzz in the air, as patch 5.4 enters its final tuning phase. Could the patch be dropping soon? Could it be dropping today? Alas, today is unlikely, as downtime this morning is just the standard 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. PDT, but it does seem like we're entering the home stretch. I'm guessing we'll have to wait until early September myself, but my crystal ball's always been a bit cloudy.

In the meantime, just because we're in the tuning phase doesn't mean Blizzard's slowing down. There's still new updates coming every week, and we're still delving and reporting all the best stuff. You have a few hours free thanks to this morning's downtime, right? Go ahead and read on for all the latest news from the past week.

Last Week in WoW: Both is good edition

Last Week in WoW
So the big news around the office these days is that some of our own writers got items in game. Congratulations to Rossi, Olivia, and Anne. That said, we don't want to be selfish here, there's plenty of other news that does not involve everyone's favorite website.

For example, just today, Blizzard released new info on the upcoming connected realms feature. There's also a lot of patch 5.4 news to pore through, with multiple updates hitting the PTR this past week. You can read through the roundup below, or even just watch this video of 6 things you should know about the patch. Or do both. Both is good. There's no announced downtime as of this writing, but it never hurts to take some time out to read up.

Hot news and features
  • Blizzard has introduced a new animated series called The Burdens of Shaohao. Check out the Prelude, and the first chapter, Doubt.
  • The Store button is active on the PTR, and in addition to those experience potions, it's offering charms for sale.
  • Check out the latest patch 5.4 patch note updates for July 29 and August 2.
  • The latest PTR data files include some possible BoA epics.
  • Vengeance got some pretty hefty nerfs on the patch 5.4 PTR.
  • The latest patch 5.4 updates are full of raid spoilers, including a confrontation between two major characters and another major story development that we won't spoil for you here. Click on the links if you want to know.

Last Week in WoW: I still want High Elves edition

Last Week in WoW I still want High Elves edition
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Ghostcrawler was busy this week. He gave a few interviews to Asian sites this past week. Including this interview from Korea and this from website Chinajoy. The Chinajoy interview really blew up because it seemed to hint a new support class and playable naga, as well as new areas we might visit in the next expansion. Of course, naga weren't really confirmed, but it's still the tidbit that most intrigued me. Playing a snake person might be fun, but I admit, naga are 3rd for me being high elves and ethereals. Yes, I know high elves would just be blue-eyed blood elves. I don't care. Just give the horde Eredar and make them red-skinned draenei, and we're even.

Downtime today is slated to start at 3 a.m. PDT and last 8 hours. Luckily, with patch 5.4 still on the PTR, we have plenty of news to keep you busy while you wait. Read on for the usual roundup.

Last Week in WoW: I left my heart in San Diego

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. The big news this week is kind of invisible. Blizzard introduced the first teaser trailer for the new Warcraft movie at the San Diego Comic Con. They then proceeded to not put it online. If it makes you feel any better, it apparently wasn't actual movie footage, since they haven't started shooting yet.

There's plenty of other news for the week with more substance, luckily, including new stuff from the patch 5.4 PTR. Realm maintenance this morning begins at 3 a.m. PDT and lasts 8 hours, so you should have time to read up.

Last Week in WoW: I want an eyepatch edition

Tuesday Morning Post I want an eyepatch edition
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. While the patch 5.4 PTR continues on, one of the most talked about stories this week has ramifications well beyond the next patch. The in-game store for patch 5.4 has been announced, as has a round of transmog and TCG-style vanity items to be purchased therein. Personally, I'm all for it, but what I really want to see is a pair of glasses and a leather-looking eyepatch my death knight can wear. You do that, Blizzard, and you have my money.

There's plenty of patch 5.4 news to catch up on as well, with lots of very interesting things coming out of datamining. Downtime today is limited to rolling restarts at 7 a.m. PDT, but it's a good excuse to take a break and do some reading. Read on for the usual roundup.

Hot news and features
  • Blizzard's offering free character transfers for select realms until July 25.
  • Blizzard has released an official preview of the patch 5.4 Proving Grounds feature.
  • Read up on the latest patch 5.3 hotfixes for July 9.
  • Check out the latest patch 5.4 PTR patch note updates for July 8 and July 12.
  • New textures in the patch 5.4 PTR files may hint at the next expansion.
  • We have two new batches of sound files from the PTR. One showcases Wrathion, while another hints at the post-war climate in Pandaria.
  • We preview Norushen, one of the Siege of Orgrimmar boss encounters.
  • Files on the patch 5.4 PTR point to a possible revamp for Winterveil. We might even finally be getting that elusive corgi for our very own.

Last Week in WoW: They were made for each other edition

Last Week in WoW They were made for each other
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. Today's header is just because I need to put my two cents in on the OTP debate over in the Queue. Look at that. They were made for each other. Sorry Kalecgos. You're only half the elf Vereesa is. Just bow out gracefully.

If you're not into the mushy love stuff, don't worry, I'm done. There's plenty of news to catch up on anyway. Patch 5.4 has seen some new upgrades, and there's a few doozies hidden in all that datamining. Read on for a full list of news and updates from the past week.
