Blood Sport: How should you prepare for season 11 PvP?

WoW Insider covers the world of player vs. player action in Blood Sport for fans of battleground, world PvP and Arena play. Steering you to victory is Olivia Grace, who spends most of her time in Azeroth as a restoration shaman turning people into frogs.

So you've had a week away from the arena. What have you been up to in that week? Playing in the autumn leaves? Finally cleaning your keyboard?

Or maybe you've been frantically gathering a transmogrification set (once you'd got over the fact that you couldn't transmogrify your paladin into a power ranger)? I know I have, and I'm now in love with Kezzik in Area 52! Perhaps you've been running the new dungeons or flirting with the new raid? ...Or ganking your GM in the Darkmoon Faire's Deathmatch Arena, like @trimbleirl.

If you are one of the people who has done enough hard work in season 10 to get a title, you should give yourself a pat on the back. Well done! You're well on your way to the upper echelons of PvP, and I hope you climb even higher this season! And if you're one of the people who has been working through Battlegrounds every day to get your conquest points, congratulations! You're going to be among the first to get your grubby mitts on the new gear.

But moving on from what you could have been doing to what you could be doing now, what are the top tips to prepare yourself for season 11?

PVP Season 10 ends Nov. 29, patch 4.3 in December?

Thanks to a tweet from Bashiok and an update to the official announcement, we now know that PVP Season 10 is ending this Nov. 29. This means that we now know that, since PVP seasons tend to end a week or two before patch drops, it becomes likely that we'll see Patch 4.3 by the first week of December. Bashiok's tweet implies that this will be the case.

Since we know exactly when the PVP season will be ending, you'll have exactly a week to spend honor for the current season's conquest point rewards before the new rewards are released alongside patch 4.3.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

PvP Season 10 ending as soon as next Tuesday

Season 10 of Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds will be coming to an end as early as next Tuesday, Nov. 15. Usually, although not always, this means that a major content patch is about two weeks away from the date the season ends.

When the season ends, any conquest points will be converted to honor points. If during the conversion you end up with more honor points than the 4,000-point cap allows, you won't be able to earn any more honor points until you get yourself below the cap. If you wait approximately one additional week for Season 11 to start, then any honor points above the 4,000 point cap will be converted into 35 silver per point.

Honor compensation date announced for recent PVP gear debacle

Blizzard's Bashiok has posted a time frame for the previously announced 4,000-honor point compensation package for players who spent honor on old gear during the week between the PVP Season 9 and Season 10. Any player who spent honor on ilevel 365 gear during the transition week will be awarded a free 4,000 honor points, which can go over the point cap and can be spent on the new, higher tier of Vicious PVP gear. This free honor will be awarded to players during maintenance on July 19 (this coming Tuesday).

I think this is a pretty good compensation package for players who were not informed of the change in how PVP gear would be handled this season. The biggest issue from the debacle was that players spent a huge amount of time and effort grinding out honor for ilevel 365 gear during the off-week, then spent it, only to see the gear became useless just days later. Now that work has essentially been restored in the form of new, shiny, over-the-cap honor points. You will not be able to earn more honor points until you dip below the cap again, however.

Season 10 PVP armor sets preview

With patch 4.2 coming very, very soon, a new arena season is on the horizon as well. And with a new season of PVP comes a brand new tier of PVP gear! Season 10's gear builds off of the season 9 sets, but with a little bit more flair and badassitude. That's a word, right?

Season 10 PVP will begin one week after season 9 ends, after the winners from the previous season are tabulated, and titles and drakes are awarded. Blizzard cautions PVP players who might think that they are eligible for PVP end-of-season rewards not to faction or realm transfer until the tabulation is completed -- it might screw with the numbers and ruin your chances.

Check out all of the new season 10 armor sets at the WoW community site.

Update: PVP Season 9 ending as soon as June 28

The WoW community site was recently updated to let players know that the ninth PVP season would be ending as soon as June 28 rather than the June 21. What does this mean for us? Unofficial confirmation that patch 4.2 has been moved back at least a week. The new probable release date is June 28.

Earlier this week, a new balance patch hit the PTR and some decently sized changes to abilities and their associated numbers were made. No new assets were added, but a lot of numbers were moved around. After Ghostcrawler's excellent balance post and call for feedback, we guessed that this PTR patch could have the potential to push the 4.2 back a week. Well, it looks like it did.

Update your calendars, folks. You've got an extra week to push tier 11 content and have a patch-free Midsummer Fire Festival, which launches on June 21.

The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!

PVP Season 9 ending soon

Season 9 of the arena and rated battleground PVP experience is coming to an end as early as June 21, and end-of-season rewards will be calculated a week after that. While there is a break in the PVP season, all rated battleground and arena matches will become unavailable to players, so get your wins in now.

Blizzard stresses that if you believe you are potentially going to get the Season 9 PVP rewards for being in the highest percentile of winners and think you might be eligible for the arena titles or Vicious Gladiator's Twilight Drake, you should refrain from transferring your character to a new server while the reward tabulation is going on. If you're a big PVPer, stay on your server until the winners have been announced.

PVP Season 10 will begin approximately one week after Season 9 ends. All honor over the 4,000-point cap will be turned into gold at 35 silver per honor point.

Blizzard's full post after the break.
