The mount you'll engi-need in Patch 5.4

We posted last week briefly about the Sky Golem, the redesigned engineering mount that will allow you to pick flowers as you fly around. And we posted a picture of the Sky Claw, but now, there is video of this mount in all its glory. And guess what, Engineering just became the best profession. Again.

It's all a little confusing, really, as we were convinced that this would look like the sky claw we'd all seen before, but this is far, far better. It's effectively a shredder suit, that you put on, and fly around in. There are four different colors available, as you can see from Adriacraft's video above, and all of them look pretty great.

This is crafted by engineers, at a cost of 30 Living Steel, as well as 30 Jard's Peculiar Energy Source. These are currently created on a daily cooldown, so it's going to take engineers a while to get this mount built. However, there is no requirement for Engineering skill to use it, at present at least, so this mount can presumably be sold on the Auction House! I am leveling my engineering just to build this. And you should too.

Patch 5.4 PTR: Sky Golem mount allows for aerial flower picking

Sky Golem
Engineers have been kept waiting for the release of a few exciting new schematics. It's been too long! I have four engineers (I'm not crazy, I swear), so I was excited to see the new engineering mount updated in the latest patch 5.4 PTR build. We knew it previously as Sky Claw, but this awesome mount's official name is Sky Golem.

In the original build, the mount's tooltip indicated that it'd be able to carry an ally, but it seems to have changed. The new tooltip has been updated to say that instead, the claws of the mount can be used by herbalists to pick herbs. Now druid herbalists aren't the only ones that get to have all the fun!

We've been waiting a long time but keep in mind that things on the PTR are subject to change. I'm trying not to get my hopes up -- still -- but these recent updates are making it difficult not to. We'll keep our fingers crossed!

Patch 5.4 PTR: Jard and his amazing engineering journal

Patch 54 PTR Jard and his amazing engineering journal
For those of us who have picked the best profession (that would be engineering), we've finally got some new schematics in patch 5.4 to mess around with! Fortunately, there are no reputations to grind, no insane amount of gold or obscure items we have to pay to obtain these new schematics. In fact, in a departure from the usual, all engineers have to obtain is one item to learn all new schematics for patch 5.4: Chief Engineer Jard's Journal. At the present time, the journal drops from any mob in the Vale -- I got mine from the first sha I killed.

Reading the journal will teach you Jard's secrets. Apparently, he really wasn't into explosives at all. Patch 54 PTR Jard and his amazing engineering journal You'll get the schematics for Pierre, the Rascal Bot, the Advanced Refrigeration Unit, and the Sky Claw when you learn the journal, as well as the item you'll need to make all of them -- Jard's Peculiar Energy Source. And this is where it gets a little frustrating, to say the least. Creating the energy source is easy, you only need 10 Ghost Iron Bars. What's frustrating is the cooldown -- you can only make one energy source per day. It's very much like the cooldown for Imperial Silk, except that there isn't an option to use Spirits of Harmony to bypass the cooldown at the present time.

The wait continues for Pierre and the Skyclaw

The wait continues for Pierre and the Skyclaw
The mystery of Pierre and the Sky Claw continues. These creations burst onto the scene in the patch 5.2 PTR patch notes back in January, when we were enthralled by Pierre's cooking capabilities, and the Sky Claw's two-person mount potential. Engineers were thrilled at their appearance, but alas, it was not to be.

When we last heard from our potent pair, they had been recently removed from patch 5.2, for undisclosed reasons. This last update came our way in early March, and we have had no word since. Until now. Blizzard Lead Content Designer Cory "Mumper" Stockton tweeted the following:

What has happened to Pierre and the Skyclaw? Have we sent out a search party? Are they in Vashj'ir, solving underwater crimes? Is it simply that Lil' Ragnaros is jealous and has banished Pierre to the Elemental Plane, and the Skyclaw is trying to build up the stones to fly down and snatch him out? Or is it possible that something more sinister is afoot...

WoW Insider recently made mention of a new contender for engineers' hearts and pockets, the Bad Robot, due to grace our screens in 'a future patch'. Could it be that the bad robot has lived up to his name and put paid to Pierre and the Skyclaw? Could this be the darkest hour for our dynamic duo? Who will help them now?

Patch 5.2 mounts and where to get them

Patch 52 mounts and where to get them
Patch 5.2 isn't just bringing new raids, it's also adding several new mounts to the game. For mount collectors, drake show-offs and people who like sitting on cool things, WoW Insider checked out how you can lay your hands on these sweet rides in patch 5.2.

Direhorn Mounts

The Golden Primal Direhorn is exhibited in the header image for your delectation, and he is available, just like his Crimson Primal Direhorn brother, from gaining exalted reputation with one of the new reputation grind factions -- the Kirin-Tor Offensive for the Alliance's Golden Primal Direhorn, and the Sunreaver Onslaught for the Horde's Crimson one.

There are several other Direhorn mounts available, all of these are Primordial rather than Primal, and come in four different colors: Amber Primordial Direhorn, Jade Primordial Direhorn, Cobalt Primordial Direhorn, and the Slate Primordial Direhorn.
