WoW Moviewatch: Colonel Azeroth and the Planeteers

The Earthen Ring gather five players to form Colonel Azeroth and the Planeteers in order to protect Azeroth from bad stuff and destruction. While the video spends some time providing critique about the old Captain Planet cartoon -- a little odd, considering how old that cartoon is -- the video still delivers plenty of laughs based in modern day WoW. This video works especially well for me because Captain Planet never made sense to me for exactly the reasons Slightly Impressive points out.

WoW Moviewatch: Lore According to Deathwing

We all know that history is written by the victors. That approach makes Slightly Impressive's new video about lore particularly interesting. All the stories get a little more interesting when you review the Lore According to Deathwing.

This is some of Griff's best work yet. I loved the angle, the acting, and even the way he put the visuals together. I really hope he keeps pursuing this angle with other villains; it would make for a great series. Isn't it time Hogger had his say?

WoW Moviewatch: Unsung Heroes of Azeroth

Not every hero destroy dragons, fights gods, and lays down ancient heroes. Some of the most impressive feats in the world are performed by the Unsung Heroes of Azeroth. Whether we're talking about the postal service worker or the auctioneer, these are the true pillars of our society.

I think this is easily Slightly Impressive's best video yet. It's an original concept, contains plenty of subtle commentary about the game, and it's flawlessly performed. Very well done! I've really grown into quite the fan.

WoW Moviewatch: Toxic Players

The subject of toxic players is near and dear to many of our hearts. A few bad apples can turn a fun-filled night of enjoyment and relaxation into a real drag, not to mention the havoc a troll can cause in the forums. So it makes sense that Blizzard might try to eradicate their very-real negative impact on the game.

Slightly Impressive's cautionary video warns us, though, that the attempt to remove the Toxic Players could go a little too far. Bonus points for this dazzling use of animation to represent the talking... icons... of Blizzard. Really nicely done.

WoW Moviewatch: MoP Redubbed 2

WoW Moviewatch MoP Redubbed 2
SPOILER ALERT: This is a redubbed video of the cinematic end of the expansion.

Behind the cut is the latest Slightly Impressive video, portraying an alternate version of what those characters might have been saying. I imagine some of us might actually prefer this version, especially since we discover the real reason Thrall and Varian just can't get along.

It's a solid video and a great redubbing. You'll find plenty of jokes through the entire video, and the final point about gnomes... well. It's a thing gnome players notice at this point. You can't miss it. It's funny because it's true.

WoW Moviewatch: Lore According to Arthas

As a lore columnist, I'm terribly familiar with the story of Arthas and the fall of Lordaeron. But hey, I've never heard the story from Arthas' side. So what's a bitter, mostly dead former Lich King to do? Slightly Impressive tackles the subject with the Lore According to Arthas, in which the former Lich King explains everything that happened to a befuddled gnome who hasn't played through the Wrath expansion.

Needless to say, Slightly Impressive did a fantastic job with his latest effort. The explanation of the final battles in Icecrown in particular had me cracking up. As usual, he hit all the right notes, and the visuals were spot-on. It's a little hard for me personally to hear Arthas say anything without picturing Myndflame's interpretation of the character, but Slightly Impressive nailed it, right down to the excessive reminder that everything he does is, yes, for Lordaeron. Take a look!

WoW Moviewatch: Disney in Azeroth

You could probably take a successful stab at the premise behind Slightly Impressive's new video, Disney in Azeroth, just from the name. On the surface, it's another quick-take, short scene video with a huge collection of punch lines. Loaded with dozens of little jokes, DIsney in Azeroth is one of my favorite Griffter videos so far.

Slightly Impressive did an astounding job of creating parody after parody of Disney films. His transmogs are all spot on, the "in Azeroth" parts work well, and he hits the tone perfectly. I literally laughed out loud, and I enjoyed the entire thing. Take the time to check it out.

WoW Moviewatch: Horde Propaganda

Horde Propaganda is a little bit of a diversion from Slightly Impressive's usual style, but it's one that I enjoy. Taking a page from those old timey propaganda films, Griff commits a solid send up of both the Garrosh loyalists and the all over war effort.

I also think this is one of Griff's most successful voices. I don't know if he just naturally has that WWII announcer style or if he practiced it, but he's actually a little convincing in the role. Breaking the fourth wall is a standard tactic in videos like these, so I get why he made that choice. I do wonder if the video would have been more effective played straight. At the end of the day, it was a fun video and one of Slightly Impressive's better ones.

WoW Moviewatch: WoW Then and Now

Slightly Impressive tackles the long, slow evolution of WoW with a brief reminder of what the game used to be like. Remember the long haul from Deadmines every time you needed a new PUG? The pain of learning your way around a new zone? The heartfelt despair trying to find a new group?

WoW Then and Now is more than just a pleasant romp down memory lane. It rips the rose-colored glasses off for a stark reminder that not everything used to be so easy. I think the game's grown for the better; your mileage may vary. Ultimately, though, this is some great work from Slightly Impressive.

WoW Moviewatch: WoW Bosses as Actual Bosses

Ever had that feeling that your boss is secretly an ancient scion of evil, ready to destroy the world? Or that your supervisor would take an entire raid to defeat? It seems Slightly Impressive has had that feel because WoW Bosses as Actual Bosses is some hilarious stuff.

Whether you're being remembered from the mail room, or bowing down before the department supervisor, this video has a little work place humor for any office worker. My hat's off to Slightly for an incredible and hilarious joke. Nicely done, sir.

WoW Moviewatch: The Five Different Types of Trolls

I think it's a watershed for most parody writers to tackle the various categories of trolls. It's just something you have to do, whether you like it or not. Write about online culture long enough, and you eventually have to tackle the troll issue. I guess it's Slightly Impressive's turn, because he recently put out The Five Different Types of Trolls.

The video's all right, but any shortcomings aren't really his fault per se. I'll admit I didn't find it terribly funny but that's not because Slightly somehow stumbled. It's just... we've been down this road. For like 20 years, we've been reading categories of trolls. That being said, I did appreciate the meta-humor about how the gag needed structure; it did manage to lend a bit of fresh air to a tired subject.

WoW Moviewatch: Game of Gnomes

Game of Gnomes is a pretty good send-up of HBO's massive epic series based on the books of the same name. Slightly Impressive obviously couldn't feature some of the naughtier aspect of the show, but he definitely pointed out some of the more absurd ones.

That throne of swords is pretty amazing. We need that model in game. And I have always wondered about that "Winter is Coming" thing, especially when they're standing neck deep in snow. If nothing else, Game of Gnomes gets you caught up on the basic things you need to know about the series.

Hodor. Hodor Hodor Hodor.

WoW Moviewatch: How to Trick People Into Thinking You're Okay at PvP

It's an eternal challenge. You're not the best PvP player in the whole wide world, but you want to get started. How do you make someone think you're pretty good at PvP? How do you make someone think you're an experienced battleground hero? That's where Slightly Impressive's newest video comes in. How to Trick People Into Thinking You're Okay at PvP will get you by!

WoW Moviewatch: How You Should Feel About WoW

Some people struggle for hours, spending effort and time introspecting and exploring their feelings. You could do that, I guess. Or you could watch this guide by Simply Impressive about How You Should Feel About WoW.

With the appropriate shout-out to BC and previous expansions, Slightly Impressive does a good job of creating a bullet point list of usual sentiment. It's somewhat a shame that the official forum is so predictable, but once you've been through the cycle a few times... you probably know what complaints are coming.

WoW Moviewatch: A Noob's Journey

You can't produce a video about leveling without at least one joke about killing helpless critters. It's like a fundamental part of the topic: boars without livers, Murlocs without eyes.

So Slightly Impressive had to tackle that joke in this longer video about A Noob's Journey. I feel like I've seen this video before, even though it's newly made. I don't know, it just has that familiar feel to me.

Griff has been expanding his repertoire, and I appreciate his storybook take on this classic topic. Still, I just couldn't shake that too-familiar feeling, and I'm not sure why.
