Titan's Grip and polearms "on the list for patch 5.4"

Patch 53 PTR Titan's Grip to work with polearms and staves
Since my current weapon is a polearm, I've been dying to be able to use it with Titan's Grip, and it had appeared that my dreams were coming true in patch 5.3. Both Wowhead news and MMO-Champion had posted that as of build 16837 the restrictions on Titan's Grip disallowing polearms and staves have been lifted. Is this a case of tooltips not being updated properly? I had hope not. I'd really like to dual wield a pair of Hellreavers. Since I know that datamining can lead to weird tooltip issues, I asked Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street for clarification on twitter.

Titan's Grip and polearms 'on the list for patch 54'
So it's probably not going live in patch 5.3 - whether the PTR change is just a tooltip error or a test of the possible functionality we'll find out once 16837 goes live.

I don't know if this also means that polearms will be usable with swords, axes and maces for transmog or if they'll still be considered to share a class with staves. I have a lot of staves in the bank just in case, though. I like hitting people with Damnation.

Mists of Pandaria is here! The level cap has been raised to 90, many players have returned to Azeroth, and pet battles are taking the world by storm. Keep an eye out for all of the latest news, and check out our comprehensive guide to Mists of Pandaria for everything you'll ever need to know.

Feral staves no more in patch 3.0.8

So back in another life, when I was a Druid, there was always something that got me a little hot and bothered: Seeing another class with a feral weapon. Sometimes it was a Night Elf Hunter running around Hellfire peninsula with an Ursol's Claw, sometimes it was a Gnome Warrior hanging in Shattrath with a Terestian's Stranglestaff.

Whatever it was, it always bothered me a bit. I wondered if they had just taken it because there was no Druid in the group, or if there was some poor feral scrub out there wandering lost and lonely without a feral weapon because some guy who couldn't even use all that delicious feral attack power wanted it for the agility or whatever. I have to admit, though, many feral staves are some of the coolest looking items in game, so I wouldn't necessarily blame them for taking one.

After Patch 3.0.8, they'll have even more reason to take them.

Phat Loot Phriday: Auchenai Staff

One of the more interesting twists in the expansion is the introduction of two new, completely opposed factions: the Aldor and the Scryers. Players first entering Shattrath City are asked to choose one, and each has different rewards and recipes available. It's an intriguing proposition, and we'll probably see more effects of the decision (some have even speculated that eventually we'll have an Aldor vs. Scryer battleground, so Horde and Alliance will for the first time be able to fight side by side against players).

So this week on Phat Loot Phriday, we're covering a droolworthy Aldor weapon, and the Scryers will just have to sit back and be jealous. Next week, we'll switch. If you want more info on the Aldor/Scryer decision, WoWwiki is the guide to read.

Name: Auchenai Staff
Type: Rare Two-Hand Staff
Damage / Speed: 92-171 / 2.10 (62.8 DPS)
  • +46 Intellect
  • Improves spell hit rating by 19, spell crit rating by 26, and healing and damage by up to 121, so it's pretty darn amazing for almost any caster, especially damage-based
  • Available only to people Revered by the Aldor faction
How to Get It: You've got to be Aldor-- hopefully you've caught that much already. To get Revered, you have to do quests labeled for Aldor rep-- there's a bunch of them in the Lower City of Shattrath, and quite a few in the Aldor area there. You can also turn in various Marks from around Outland (Kil'jaeden until Honored, and Sargeras after that) and Fel Armaments. Hit Revered, and then bring 56 gold and some change (so 57 gold, really) to the Aldor quartermaster to get this pretty stick o' power.

Getting Rid of It: Once you've got this thing, you probably won't lose it until you start rolling through the endgame instances in Outland. After you do find something nicer, though, a vendor will give you 11g 26s 53c for it.

Legendary Caster Staff Stats

While I haven't seen any details on how this is acquired, it's safe to assume (since this information was most likely data-mined from the patch 1.11 files we currently have access to) that it's going to involve Naxxramas.  I must say, these staves - different for different classes - look perfectly delightful and I would be happy to have one - though I can't say I look forward to the no doubt extensive efforts required to get it.
