Around Azeroth: Goodbye, Mirage Raceway

The sun is setting on our beloved racetrack. No more will we be running around it, collecting debris, scaring humans disguised as chickens and eating Tigul and Foror's Strawberry ice cream. Goodbye, Mirage Raceway!

Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

Around Azeroth: A canyon sunset

Raoulduke of Windrunner sends us this perfect sunset shot (really, how do you manage to catch the sun just so?) with a challenge: he won't tell us where the shot was taken. And while I think it's pretty obvious (there's only one place in the world with rock formations and canyons like this), in the spirit of things, I'll pass the question on to the rest of you. Where in the world was this shot taken?

Have you taken an extraordinary screenshot in the World of Warcraft? We'd like to see it on Around Azeroth! All you have to do is e-mail aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your screenshot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could find your pictures and story featured next!

Around Azeroth: Dusk over the swamp

I don't usually consider the Swamp of Sorrows to be a very scenic location, but this shot sent in by reader Ryan seems to prove me wrong. In the golden haze of the sunset, even the Swamp of Sorrows can be a tourist destination. (So long as you can ignore the slight Murloc problem... after all, I'm sure there's just one of them, don't you think?)

Around Azeroth: Flying over Razorfen Kraul

Reader Zarja of Trollbane sends us this lovely shot of the sun setting over Razorfen Kraul in the Barrens. Zarja took this shot while speeding by on a windrider and tells us, "I love doing aerial shots, as it's sheer luck to catch just the right view as you're speeding by."

Around Azeroth: A Hinterlands skyscape

Reader Tyrianus of Bronzebeard sends in this interesting shot, snapped while flying into the Hinterlands from the Undercity. The sky is of particular interest -- what's up with that red line on the horizon, fading through purple into dark blue? You may think it's a sunset, but when Tyrianus landed, the sun and sky looked more like mid-day.

Around Azeroth: Flying off into the sunset

Reader Fuzz from Kor'gall (EU) sends in this shot of the evening sky over Blade's Edge Mountains. I'm not entirely certain it can be considered a sunset, since there's no sun in sight, though the blazing red and yellow sky, fading to black, suggests what we would call a sunset in other parts of the World of Warcraft.

Around Azeroth: Sunset over the Shimmering Flats

Demit of Anetheron sends in this amazing shot of the sun setting over the Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles. With the reddish sky reflecting off the smooth white sand below, the scene looks quite peaceful... right up until the moment you recall that Shimmering Flats is full of vultures, basilisks, scorpids, and even a few silithid.

Around Azeroth: Netherstorm sky

Aril on The Defias Brotherhood sends in this excellent shot of the Netherstorm sky at sunset. As with all of the skies over Azeroth, the colors and details are gorgeous -- nearly like a painting. I wish I had a higher resolution version of this to share, but this is the best we've got -- wallpaper sized for those of us running at 1024x768.

Around Azeroth: A mushroomy sunset

Maybe I haven't spent enough time adventuring in Zangarmarsh (I do seem to jump straight from Hellfire Penninsula into Terokkar Forest on most characters), but I've never seen the sky quite this shade of pink. However, reader Humata of Twisting Nether (EU) managed to snag this impressive shot of the brilliant Zangarmarsh sky.
